Barney Frank and Carl Levin are at fault. In fact, Republicans were warning about too many sub-prime loans being made and tried to stop it. I just remember quite well that the sub-prime issue was a huge concern already back in 2004 or so..and maybe earlier... I was reading alot of financial news, as i was doing my own stock trading.. @paulfornasier The sub-prime issue might have been a major concern for some of those who follow the economy closely but it was hardly a prominent issue in 2004 as the GOP put all their chips on 9/11 and then shamelessly smeared Kerry [ a terrible candidate for a variety of reasons having little to do with policy] who failed to fight back soon enough and hard enough. Bush continued to cheer lead home buying and Greenspan kept interest rates dangerously low.

Barney Frank and Carl Levin are at fault. In fact, Republicans were warning about too many sub-prime loans being made and tried to stop it. I just remember quite well that the sub-prime issue was a huge concern already back in 2004 or so..and maybe earlier... I was reading alot of financial news, as i was doing my own stock trading.. @paulfornasier The sub-prime issue might have been a major concern for some of those who follow the economy closely but it was hardly a prominent issue in 2004 as the GOP put all their chips on 9/11 and then shamelessly smeared Kerry [ a terrible candidate for a variety of reasons having little to do with policy] who failed to fight back soon enough and hard enough. Bush continued to cheer lead home buying and Greenspan kept interest rates dangerously low.

@molloyxx1 I agree with some of your points..but the one key thing you didn't point out if the close ties of the Bush admin to Goldman Sachs...AND..the fact that Goldman Sachs was responsible for the packaging of the financial instuments that were sold worldwide on a falsely elevated risk rating. THIS is what actually brought down Lehman and caused the major crisis. If they would have been rated properly...The market would have limited them accordingly. This is why it was fraud.....
