  • Mikes cousin is mad as a fish I like him.x

  • tremendous!

  • Recall seeing this on the BBC in 73 or 74 never having heard it before and was fascinated.

  • esto es música señores.... no la mayoría de mamadas que sacan hoy en día!!!!

Al diablo la película... La música es lo mejor!!!!!!!!

  • Sublime

  • i think this song reminds me of chocolate rain

  • Bloody classic, brings back so many memories from days gone by.

  • Bassie and Adriaan!!

  • @dawoesj en het geheim van de sleutel :P

  • I didn't read all 10,000 comments on this, but I wanted to note that a large part of this band were members of Henry Cow at the time, Oldfield actually worked with that band on their first album. Fred Frith is especially important because he is not only one of the most amazing guitarist/ multi-instrumentalists of all time, he is still out there, composing, performing and collaborating with all kinds of people. "Step Across the Border" is a fascinating documentary about his music.

  • i once saw a running man say hi to lola in parallel, they avoided a head on collision and the earth stayed flat and featureless but the fault lines remain

  • This is such a good tune... it's like going on a journey through time and space

  • @Impess99 you managed to describe something I couldn't!

  • @lukkee82 why? What the fuck does it matter where you know the song from?

  • @rammsteinforlife chill out man, I just answer somebody, who says that most people knows this song from that movie...

  • Its a shame I know this song from the Exorcist, because it scares me. If I knew this before I watched it, I could listen to it for hours.

  • best chillout music, real art

  • I so remember seeing this on TV as a kid. My sis had the album, and I listened to it all the time. Love Steve Hillage and the amazing Fred Frith. And Pierre, too. And of course Mick and Mike and all the rest. Half of these guys were with Henry Cow and Gong.

  • @myrrhfishify I remeber seeing this on TV, too! If I remember correctly, I think the program was "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert!" I used to stay up late Saturday night watching that program! This was even before Saturday Night Live!

  • I so remember seeing this on TV as a kid. My sis had the album, and I listened to it all the time. Love Steve Hillage and the amazing Fred Frith. And Pierre, too.

  • Mike Oldfield is a musical genius and this is a Masterpiece. I never get tired of watching/listening to it. I still have the album on vinyl. Mike was a teenager when he composed it. This music is almost 40 yrs. old. And I can relate to it even more so now that I am reading Mike's autobiography "Changeling". Thanks Mike.

  • they will ever be one mick oldfield:-(

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think Mick Taylor played on this live version. That's Fred Frith on guitar as well as Steve Hillage.

  • just as best as it gets. and as far as perfect music can go.

  • @megadonhamza You're trying to be a troll but you're so idiot that you can't be even that.

  • @JuanchoC2112 grow some pubes u horse

  • How laid back is Mike...? If he is like me, he would be cringing that anyone is playing the parts of "His" music/creation/baby.....except for him... I, like Mike, crave entire control... but the price ....mmmmmm

  • how could someone not like this????

  • One of my all-time favorite albums. I used to play it constantly in my teens. I've never seen this live version...brilliant! I used to get angry when people would refer to this as the Exorcist theme...It's so much more. Haunting, expressive, powerful

  • @roderic96 I was like them until some minutes ago, I only knew that track from the exorcist but you're right, its just amazing

  • 11 ppl. need to be exorcised.Thx for uploading.

  • This is completely unlike anything I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of music. I must have more.

  • I did far more drugs listening to this album than Pink Floyd or Zeppelin. Back then. This version is ...refreshing...and does 'transport me' to a weird but innocent time. A nod to those who did not survive.

  • @SoberDoper so many

  • @MrGordonPeel I recall doing my maths O-level revision to this.. I too have never seen this version and was delighted to see Mr Hillage playing, what a line up. Thanks for the upload Shaktidej.

  • Just finished reading Richard Bransons book and this masterpiece has just brought it all together for me. Mike Oldfield = musical genius

  • @JJDemons79 haha im reading that book-its actually what brought me to watch this video!

  • @amelia1146 Cool, it's a very good book, best autobiograpghy I've read along with Anthony Keidis from chilli peppers. :Happy reading

  • I had this album many years ago and loved it! If I remember correctly,,, he wrote and recorded it all himself! He laid in each track ind instrument, he plaid them all, individually! Cool yes? FYI

  • @DrSprockets his mum was an acoholic so he locked himself in the basement and taught himself different instruments and created the song

    very impressive!

  • Icredible awesome..i can't find words... great musicians !!!! Thanks for posting this treasure !!!

  • I had at least two copies of the vinyl (wore one out) plus it was one of the first CDs I ever purchased (like 1984-ish)

  • Creo recordar que vi esta grabación en TVE en el año 1983; coincidiendo con el décimo aniversario de Tubular Bells. Sublime!! ;O)

  • Absolutely brilliant, many thanks to the uploader/

  • I heard this on the radio today for the 1st time in decades. While it's not really my kinda music, it is a classic.. Reminds me of my childhood on the early 70's.

  • booh!

  • This is an English prog head's wet dream team, Mike Ratledge being my personal favouriite obscure but none the less brilliant guest musician 1:24

  • @BIGcrownjewels damn straight! lmao

  • 10 demons were sent back to hell

  • it is a shame that this song is most famous 4 the exorcist. this song is a complete work of art. this is art in music itself

  • @garyonthenetube At 5:00 you will see them.

  • Wow, such a pleasure to see this video from Tubullar Bells, with these great musicians!

The sound is very close to the original LP and delivers all the colourness from the instruments.

  • this stuff is so addictive!

  • I believe this was the first ever release on Virgin Records, and Mike Oldfield put it together when he was only 17.

  • 6:12-7:08 my fav. part!

  • I would say Tubular bells is an absolute master piece and one of the greatest musical compesitions ever done :))

  • @rainbowdragon131065

Think about it man, he was just 20 when Mike made this song!

  • @MetalWillem1 He was actually 17 when he wrote it but couldn't record and release it until he was 20 so WOW!

  • @rainbowdragon131065 i agree it is great!

  • I like how the guitarist is wearing a cricket jumper. It just reeks of awesome.

  • I like how the guitarist is wearing a cricket jumper.

  • I wish i could see where fred is holding his left hand

  • Sounds like L's theme. ;P

  • This seriously deserves more views....

I grew up on Tubular Bells, Five Miles Out, and Jean Michel Jarre's "Oxygene" on Vynil...

  • @bartkate86 you're not the only one

  • This is great Shaktidej. Thanks for posting it. I hate to say it, but I'm not sure which guy is Mike Oldfield. I've always known the album only. And please point out which guys are Mick Taylor & Steve Hillage. Can you name the rest of the guys? This is an incredible piece of music & to think Oldfield played every instrument on the album. This video, as old as is it, is new to me. Thanks again.

  • @harleygal24 - Mike Oldfield gets the spotlight @ 0.44 (Mike was 20 years old here...). Solo @ 2.36 is played by Fred Frith and the next solo @3.23 is played by Steve Hillage (on the left) and Mick Taylor (on the right).

  • WOW!

  • epic <3

  • thats real music

  • The track that was playing in the back of my head and giving me nightmares as a child .

  • Phillip Glass

  • This very unique footage was recorded live for the BBC @ 30-11-73 and connects various elements and musicians (Canterbury scene, beginnings of the Virgin Record label).

  • @loekie64 - Thanks for the info on this unique footage. I've always enjoyed listening to Tubular Bells. And it's great to see a live performance from way back then. A classic piece of music that never gets old.

  • 2m31s. Joints!

  • Sounds Like Old psychodelic Pink Floyd , love it

  • I think Fred Frith is on guitar here. Maybe that is on Vinyl

  • I think Fred Frith is on guitar here

  • I love this music. It reminds me of my dad's funeral. (We all filed into the church to the sound of this music.)

  • What a line-up! :O Is that Mike Ratledge on piano and Fred Frith on guitar and bass??

  • saw mike oldfield in edinburgh doing a show years ago, and what a master of music he is,one of the best live shows i have seen and i have seen plenty as well.well worth his money as well

  • Reminds me of the Portuguese group Madredeus

  • For the 8 people that didn't like this music/video.....

GO BACK TO YOUR GREEN DAY AND LADY GAGA AND LEAVE REAL MUSIC TO THE PROFESSIONALS!!!

  • Chocolate Rain, Some stay dry and others feel the pain.

  • butgrubber,Indeed they did! But I doubt if they were stoned when they did this! (or at least not much) Music is too tight for that!

  • hola, disculpen nadie sabe ese recital de oldfield en el que hay un musico que toca el metalofon?, ya que es muy rockero pero no se cual es y lo estoy buescando hace años, si alguien me puede ayudar, se agradece, gracias

  • Master piece!

  • This is so so good with a j

  • A brilliant piece of understated genius from Mike Oldfield! A quiet, yet disturbing unease that perfectly complements a classic horror.

  • 8 dislike...

  • @emimi10001 let me answer that one... i personally am a big fan of Mike's, but frankly, the visuals ain't much to look at... just some guys sitting around playing their instruments. The saving grace is the sheer musical genius of those guys playing (yes i said GENIUS!!)... make sense now why people would thumbs-down this (the "blah" visuals)?

  • Wonderful live version! Thanks for posting this! :D

  • Örülünk annak, hogy van Ő.Más nyelvet beszélünk de a zene mindent megold!!!!

Estamos encantados de que el es. Hablamos distinta idioma peró la musco es us solucion para toda enfermedad.!

  • does someone has the tabs for the solo at 6:12 ?

    thanks

  • It's annoying that people know this song as the exorcist soundtrack... this song is so much more than a soundtrack!

  • @HoodLU4boi I've never even seen The Exorcist, and I love this song!

  • @HoodLU4boi so its the theme to the exorcist so what its a great song

  • @HoodLU4boi they are undoubtably from the us

  • @HoodLU4boi I've still got it on vinyl, you are right it is art

  • @HoodLU4boi Mike Oldfield said that he doesn't like that people think about Tubular Bells like the Exorcist's soundtrack.

  • @HoodLU4boi

Right, but Mike Oldfield's music is pretty esoteric, while The Exorcist is one of the most famous movies ever. Regardless, you have to admit this makes a pretty bitchin' soundtrack.

  • @HoodLU4boi The thing is they only recognize the first 30 seconds as the soundtrack. They don't realise the rest of the song is all a masterpiece!

  • @HoodLU4boi

It wasn't even written for any film; It was chosen by the director during postproduction.

  • 7:09 one of the best part in history !!!!

  • There 'must be some drums in the song for it to sound live as good as it was on the album. No other option (it's getting boring without 'em, you know...)

  • great, thanks..

  • progressive...

  • this is quality

  • and acid..
