  • A fun highschool girlfriend (Carmen Saboula) and a bunch of us, rocked out to this group, laughed and loved it...young n silly!!Fun times.

  • i like it

  • getting well stoned in Ambelside (Lake district) climbing that hill to The Drunken Duck, Memories. Fantastic!!!

  • Always liked. Thanks.

  • These guys were great back in the day. Not bad NOW!

  • TAKE THAT SIMON COWELL YOU BUTT SNIFFER! All of america remembers you telling the "singing Marine" that he needed to decide whether to be country or rock as A performer. Well that's A swing and A miss there TOMMY! these guys seem to have done A pretty good job of it. , and even though it was the 70's I bet they STILL made more than the lousy million your show offers and we still hear them on the radio. How 'bout that "flavor of the week" Kelly Clarkson or Justin Guardini?

  • seeing them perform at county fairs back in missouri was a joy in the ealy 70's never tire of them.

  • Yes, it's a GREAT song... BUT... every time I am FORCED to watch a stupid commercial at the beginning, even for 5 seconds, that video GETS DISLIKED.

  • If you've ever wondered what it's like to live in the Ozarks..listen to these guys and close your eyes..they'll take you there. They are the soundtrack of the Ozarks lifestyle.

  • saw em in shreveport louisiana ....1979 can't get enough!

  • First heard them ten years ago ( I was a late starter LOL) have loved them ever since..their music is simply beautiful and the lyrics are simply solid gold>

  • To think I'm listening to this 38 years after it was recorded and it still rocks! Great memories of Ozark Mountain Daredevils at the Warehouse in New Orleans. Got in for a dollar and a penny $1.01 thats right. Awesome band, wish there were more like them.

  • TABS are available at.ozarkdaredevilstabs(dotcom) done by Steve Hull. No matter how bad the day, playing Country Girl, Road to Glory, and Leatherwood fix me up fine. When I play an OMD at an open mic or in public any where, there is always someone who is thankful and appreciates it. . Now if somebody would put out the tabs for Goose Creek Symphony, I'd be cartwheelin' in Earnest. Peace, Love, and Liberty

  • hey...im from the ozarks...SWEET loi

  • I'd like to play this song in my guitar, but I don't have the chords. somebody have??? I search at internet and I dont found.. please, post the chords to me!!!

  • @arianabaldon333 Steve Hull.

  • @arianabaldon333 get the tabs at ozarkdaredevilstabs(dotcom)

  • @arianabaldon333 get the tabs at ozarkdaredevilstabs(dotcom) This band's music help me save my life, and now I can play it! Life is Beautiful. Peace, Love, and Liberty

  • i am gonna take my mom to one of their upcoming concerts - too good!

  • Is it just me? Notice how almost every song from this period was fit for kids. You could sing this to little children (of course it wouldn't help them sleep, but it would help them run circles around the bed) and it would be fine, yet some of the newer music would scare the crap out of them, like welcome to the jungle or Mr. Crowley. I think People were just more kind back then. You know retro is in now, so It's not too late to change back!

  • With a hop, a hoop, and a holler.......Ozark MDD make sunshine of the rain : )

  • Amazing!!

  • My opinion is, if people would listen to this music like this now the world would not be so messed up. This music can heal idiots.

  • @007nodice Agreed. Goose Creek Synphony was another great country rock band of the same era check out Words of Ernest, great song.

  • Saw them at Reading Festival in 1975! Great stuff!

  • This song has a joyful quality to it...

  • feel good indeed

  • Fresh as the morning dew.

  • My dad had the quilts album, used to play for my buddies when we drinking, like someone else said, those were the days.

  • @7629925 u got that right: those were the days!

  • omd and lyrnard skynard are the best southern rock bands bar none too this day

  • spaceship orien come in . . .

  • use to hang with these boys in the early 70's in springfield missouri..fun and happy folks...donny

  • Use to cruise in a 1970 Rebel Machine and listen to this song! Man those were the days!

  • @skoggit In the late seventies when I worked in Yellowstone I had a Pontiac Tempest that somesweet little hippy chick dubbed the "Chicken Train" after the Ozark Daredevil's song.

  • Now THIS is music!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So what IS the story behind this song....Rubens shoes?

  • bugeyes455858 Man, Imiss these guys. Thankfully, their music is timeless just want to mention Pure Prairie League, also....they gave us some fine tunes, too.

  • coooooouuuuntttrrryy giiirl!

wont you come to me tonight??

  • Wish a could take all ma friends and family back to 1970 !

  • I grew up bout 100 miles from these boys , and I remember doing crazy fucked up shit with automobiles , insane stunts that would make H B Haliki Jelous! heres to another ozark mountain daredevil!

  • To paraphrase from "The Blues Brothers" movie- "Music that can turn horse piss into gasoline."

  • My buddies & I first discovered the Daredevils circa 1974, during one of our many lounge-around, hang-out, laid-back bong-sessions (the dope was mild, v. friendly, & non-toxic back in them days). Their music fit right in. "Country Girl" is a brilliant song .. my first manic 'fave' OMD number. Still play it today, very often .... & it still cools me out just as beautifully (without the dope these days, however .. now that I gotta take better care of my ageing older body). Great posting.

  • Check our cd out, if you like these guys. Search the title - 'Tis of Thee. Include the apostrophe before the word, " 'Tis" when you type. Or search - Allus Cats.

  • This a fantastic old song I haven't heard for many Years---Thanks---Lannie

  • I love my Willow girl.

  • LONG LIVE THE OZARKS!!...you bring a smile to me always!

  • You can never get tired of listening to these guys!

  • I've been a fan since 1974, GumboRon, and I'm not tired of them yet.

  • An almost perfect country rock song... What harmonies, melody, words, it has everything.

  • got ot love those country girls.........make sunshine out of rain!!!

  • @whowweeemandude40 And moonshine out of rain, now that's a country girl that really cooks.

  • I agree! A great feel good song. You can listen to this song several times in a row and not get tired of it! Saw them in concert at Arrowhead Stadium, summer of 76, and they were fantastic! What a great way to spend a summer evening.

  • LOVE it!!! went to one of their concerts in Sioux City IA in '79 and almost got busted for smoking a funny cigarette!!! lol

  • @marilynk1122 hope someday in our life time it ll b legal in god we trust

  • Pure country-rock at it's best!

  • I have been Listening to these Guys since the Early 70's. They have GR8 Tunes.

  • I listene to this tune for the first time.

I become to like it. :-)

  • Randle Chowning is pure class and while I like to believe he is a Missouri legend, he is an *American* country/rock music pioneer in the truest sense. With all due respect to the other Daredevils (really!) I lose interest without Randy's voice. "Country Girl" still evokes the pure Ozark night air and makes the hair stand up on the back of my head. Play on, Missouri hero...what a privilege to be from your state.

  • The Daredevils were a unique fabulous band....just passed this on to my bro...we both loved hearing it again....takes us back to sunny days by the lake skiing....sometimes I think youtube is a magical time transport!!!

  • A magical time transport indeed!!

  • Oh country girl, sitting in the big city lights, come to the cool dark night of the rolling farm lands. Oh country girl, wont you come to me tonight, oh country girl, come smoother me with delight.....

  • One of the Best Southern Bands of the early seventies! Great Memories... Thanks Man!!

  • 70's Sioux Passage Park... swinging into the river, riding horses, seems like yesterday wish it was....

  • hey genuine jazz, I remember those nights at Half-A-Hill for sure! I was fortunate to be at a small, private get together right after they recorded their first album. They sounded so much better after being in the studio. Listening to this brings back those memories of nearly 40 years ago.

  • God Bless you, Ozark Mountain Daredevils!

O country girl, you smother me with delight, won't you come to me tonight, you drive away the pain!

    mark

  • This song and old truck and a dirt road......2much.

  • Woohoo! I'm loving this ! just woke 4am in west Scotland... gr8 way to start the day ( ; xx

  • i gree

  • today is the best day of the start of my holiday up the west coast of scotland:) Arisaig here we come

  • Go Bless Youtube!!

  • Ain't that the truth. You can plug in almost any song ever made and YouTube has it. I had this album way back in the day...haven't heard this in over 30 years.

  • Hi Spectres, I found my 12" LP and it's still in good condition - love the whole album especially side 1 with Country Girl and one of my all-time my favourite songs ever "Spaceship Orion" which is also on Youtube... wow. I play guitar and love playing OZARKS !! Have a good day, Cheers from a beautiful & sunny but cold winter day in Sydney, Australia

  • Sent many a night at Half a Hill listening to the Daredevils before they were truly the Daredevils. I think they were sort of intertwined with another group called Granny's Bathwater. It was a great time to be at SMSU

  • I grew up with the Daredevils and used to hang out with them around Aldrich when I could get down to Springfield, MO from St. Louis. I doubt you will find any "let's say negative comments" about them anywhere-except maybe from some of the Disco-era idiots. Thanks for all the great music guys (and Elizabeth) and this posting!

  • I grew up listening to this band.. It was a happy time listening to the Ozark Mountain Daredevils..

    I love it!! Thanks guys..

  • The keyboard player ( Buddy Brayfield) is a doctor. He was a my doctor in a small town in missouri back in the 90s..don't know where he is now since i moved to florida a while back. Good guy though.

  • Saw these guys in 1975 at Hays, KS.

Brian Auger and the Oblivion Express

    opened for them. Outstanding concert

made even more enjoyable by the

    Tupperware container full of brownies.

  • Were these guys from Arkansas?

  • They're from around the Springfield, MO area. The band members all have other projects going on, but we're still lucky enough get to catch them perform on special occasions.

  • not nasty enuf..LOL..black oak

  • replying to spartaeus below...

  • I was lucky enough to see the Ozarks live in Vail ,Colorado in 1970.

They were out of it and I always remember how they swapped between instruments and that the harp guy had a pouch full of harps on his hip.

    They were brilliant

  • Happier than the miserable crowd you generally see with the weight of the world on their shoulders nowadays anyway

  • That's a happy looking bunch of guys at the top of the page huh?

  • 2 cats in the yard, life was not so hard

  • Life seemed so easy back then

  • listen to waterfall and it's how you think. off of men from earth album if you can find it.

  • If this doesn't bring some good memories to your heart.... you're already dead.

  • In Sydney Australia my buddies and I discovered the OMD's in 1973 - just in time for their debut album. My all-time OMD numbers : Country Girl, Beauty In The River, You Made It Right, Time Warp, Standing On The Rock, Cobblestone Mountain; and, I guess, you can't leave out the immortal 'Chicken Train'. An all-time outstandingly talented combo - I will never tire of their wonderful and multi-talented songs & genres.

  • my fave is it'll shine when it shines, but all those are great. i also love you made it right, definitely a rival for their best.

  • If I remember right, Time Warp was an extra-- a floppy, red, square 45 sized addition to one of the albums. If anyone has the song, I would love to hear it again-- I have several of the OMD albums, but I lost that song thirty years ago, and so I need someone to post it please!!

  • @colindominy I am about 500 kms north of u in the country and I discovered the ozarks walking down a country dirt road drunk with my fellow companions singing "Walking down the road with my hat in my hand"....that sparked a passion that I still enjoy today

  • I urge every OMD fan to go to there website and order the DVD Live At The Guilloz you will not be dissapointed !

  • man just discoverd this band to day there phenominol , and i love tom petty

  • ha. any more i rarely listen to petty, but i consider him to be one of the best ever. makes simple songs great. im seeing him on thursday in stl! it was for him and a select other few i got into real music instead of bullshit. you like this song do yourself a favor and pick up timewarp, their best of, it is a really good best of, every song being listenable, jackie blue, their biggest hit, is in my opinion the worst on the album, but still good!

  • @zombiedude25 You love tom petty, Too bad he isn't in this band

  • I love, love, love this song!

  • as youngest of 5 i remember all the older kids comming home with the new songs on 45's but eldest brother always bought albums. this was 1. originally bluegrass, but the song "if you wanna get to heaven" crossed over on to billboard's pop chart.

  • that song is better than this i'd say but slightly less catchy

  • One of the best bands from the 70`s, and still going strong. Great track that brings back memories of of a time when music was music.....keep playin boys....keep playin :)

  • av neva even heard of these until me fella gt me into it hahah ded catchy
