@86Ivar Driver sitting in F1 car can only see top of the wheels (3inches?). It happened v quickly and when he was concentrating on his braking point around 100m board (susp failure happened under braking). My guess is he did saw something felling off the car, but didn't realize it were both wheels (after all it's not a common thing) and did what came to him naturally, cause with either a rapid puncture or one wheel off or even both wheels damaged but still on you can change your trajector a bit

So the natural reaction is trying to get the car back... And at those speeds everything happens so fast, from the point where the wheels fly off to the point where he tries to steer it, it's like a second... I bet he didn't even realize what just had happened...

@greg7francis STR was testing their new suspension which failed. in F1 a majority of the braking power is in the front wheels, so when he braked hard from like 320 kmh for the hairpin, the sudden weight transfer from the rear to the front of the car caused the failure of the suspension.

@ermollejuo They fitted an untried suspension part (one of the uprights) which failed on the right hand side, and the left hand side failed at the same time because it couldn't take the load. Although it looks like both failed at the same time, the right failed first, followed by the left milliseconds later.
