  • Your video is popular on Washington D.C.

  • My freinds mini bike had a brake like that in the 1970s, Rear wheel had a plate that rubbed the wheel

  • that is some funny coloured water :P

  • Is there a drip valve for the engine?

Great machine, but I'd update the brakes.

  • This is going to be my senior project in machine shop.

  • great - I wonder how many miles per gallon or equivalent does it get? :)))

  • I am building an oil fired version of the same bike!!!

  • "Franklin" coal as you described is not at all hard to come by these days. Coal burning stoves are very popular today and coal is very easy to aquire. Go to your local farm supply store or wood burning stove outlet and you will likely find pallets of coal right there waiting for you in 40 lb bags. You want "rice" coal, that would be the modern equivalent of "Franklin" coal.

  • 60 mph in those days? And I read he was 77, I'd say the adrenaline got to him and the heart attack came before the crash. Still, a manly way to meet your end, IMHO.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • This is super amazing! Thanks for making this video.

  • Such an amazing bike!! I want to build a steam bike of my own someday, use the best of yesterday and todays technology to do it. And that blowdown shot at the end is a real treat!

  • 60 mph on a steam powered wooden crap very impressive

  • fantastic

  • The bike is superb! filmed it today and that rear axle pump arm is pretty extreme. 5*

  • Very interesting indeed!

Did you make the pistons, too ? If you bought them, I would be very interested to know where.

I fancy making a similar machine using gas-fired heating for the boiler, but I'm not sure I have the skill to make the piston unit...

    Excellent video.

  • It is not a monotube boiler, but a vertical firetube boiler like a Stanley. It is unlikely to explode however, as the shell is made from a section of hydraulic cylinder, and the tube sheets are 1/4" plate. It has been hydrostatically tested to three times its working pressure, and has a fusible plug of lead which will melt if it runs out of water, releasing pressure safely.

    Pete

  • looks like my Central Heating Boiler with wheels.....

    probably works better too....

  • Incredible

  • Cook a Couple Burgers While Your At It!

  • I want one

  • Love the visible smoke indicating vortex drag 9:00 mark.

  • Older motorcycles rock.

The new motorcycles are all crap. worthless just like cars.

    Plastic pieces of crap.

Back then they were art just like the brass era.

  • Ducatti, MV Augusta, Vincent, Fireblade, Brittan the first Honda 500cc 4

etc etc etc There are great motorbikes in all eras including the current one.

  • why did i not know this existed.. i have new goals in life

  • Phantastic vehicle!

Absolute famous, the steamcloud behind the driver... ;-)

  • SF Moped Thread

  • Does anyone know the videos on here taken from a TV show (I presume) of an older british gentleman taking out antique bikes and testing them? I watched them all about two years ago and now cannot figure out how to find them.

  • Take a while to get warmed up for your commute, but you will look cool parking it.

  • HELP! I made a steam engine out of an old piston-type air pump but I'm encountering some overheating problems in the cylinder

    please reply....

  • Hello Frenzieddrifter2, send me a PM with the details of your problem (if the problem is still existing) and I'll be more than happy to help you.

  • oil man oil

  • Chess'nuts roastin over an open fire!!!!

  • haha! Great! Pompf-Pompf-Pompf!

  • amazing.

  • I would kill for something like that. Maybe I'll just make one. :)

  • so beautiful... so fragile...

  • Nice bit of history, thanx Pete

  • use kingsford charc

  • Awesome, I'd love to have one :p

  • LOL! This is on my street. My house is the one with the car parked on the side of the road in the video. Then you see my horse paddocks with all the cut firewood in there last year, haha!! Neato!

  • @thecostumer

give you a dollar if you kick the old guy in the butt.

    lol.

  • Who needs petrol?

  • Fantastic. Finally something that makes my diesel Enfield look sophisticated.

  • nice steam bike

  • Aught to try burning natural chunk hardwood charcoal, it burns hotter and longer then briquettes and with less ash because most of the ash from briquettes is the starch used as a binder for the ground charcoal they're made of; and the chunk charcoal is often cheaper because there is less processing involved in making it. I'm a machinist and steam enthusiast, I'm definitely going to build one like this :)

  • I bet it smells real nice too. Mmm BBQ!

  • Stick a chunk of steak in there, lol. When your done riding, you have a snack!

  • wow, ever look at the pres gauge and mix it up with a speedo?? maybe thats why the guy had a heart attack,,,, very very cool. thanks.

  • hai pete wow kereeeeeenn...

  • great video! That steamer would look nice in my living room.

  • This is genius!!! when do I get the plans to make one of these suckers??????????

  • gosh, the principle looks so simple! yet, i'd probably run into a whole lot of problems trying to build this myself. i wish i could! maybe someday!

  • He looks like hes on fire...great video!

  • I really enjoyed watching this, More!!!

    scrapologist

  • Hey Pete! This is an absolutely great show! Keep 'em coming!!!

  • Dad - your hat is on crooked. But you are lookin' good.

  • Incredible production, Pete. Best of luck to you on your new endeavor and, hopefully, it will sooner rather than later, come to fruition. What an asset your past efforts have been to the motorcyclist community, and now this project, Pete's Garage".

  • Pete, I used to be yr neighbour -- this is fantastic..!

  • Colour me impressed! I look forward to viewing future episodes.

  • Absolutely bloody amazing. Well done Pete!

(I was actually looking around your shed to see what else you had on the work benches!)
