The thing I find most irritating is Harnoncourt's incompetent accompanying.Too fast to begin then a change of tempo later and poor synchronisation with the singer. There are parts where they are simply not together.I was also a little troubl;ed by her intonation.A little too much angst for my taste.
Great job still not as hyptnotic as Te Kanawa but I am a little biased since I did see KTK do this live @ the Met. A bit rushed(music wise) dont you think?
A wonderful and intelligent soprano lirico! Never crashing her voice with to hard repertoire and to much pressure! I wonder why they give this boring Anja Harteros the title KAMMERSAENGERIN, did D. Röschmann get it too?
She is such an amazing soprano! Wonderful bravure legato and freshsaving singing with taste for style of Mozart!
GREAT! BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVA!
Anja Harteros has to book lessons with La Röschmann!!!!!!!!
Wow - surprisingly beautiful!!!!! I think she sings it right up there with the greats. it's a little quicker so she doesn't have as long to emote on every phrase. Wow! Kudos.
For me it doesnt sound as the "seemless" production of sound that other singers have in this aria. I remember her "dove sono" in this production showed real effort... When you open Salzburg Festival in an all-star-cast one is allowed to compare you to the sacred monsters of opera...
She might have had an off day though, because I heard her again at the MET last December in Idomeneo and was really a different situation. I'll give her a break for now...
First of all I should like to mention that I'm quite aware of the fact that everybody has his or her own opinion and the right to express it too. The point's that in my opinion there's a difference between being of an opinion, for example, you're of the opinion that Nikolaus Harnoncourt is old and disinvoled, and saying "the fact is that..." because of that you're confronting everybody else with a fait accompli.
if you don't like that performance - don't view or hear it but spare me and other people with your senseless comments about "medicore to bad singing, an old and disinvolved harnoncourt"
if you don't like that performance - don't view or hear it but spare me and other people with your senseless comments about "medicore to bad singing, an old and disinvolved harnoncourt"
Harnoncourt IS old and disinvolved, as well as a cheap self- proclaimed philosopher and a demagogue.
I might be wrong of course: if I pretended to know everything about music or theatre I would probably be called Harnoncourt myself!
Not only do I have the right to express my opinion, but I even feel obligated to do so. Musical and theatrical interpretation are both artistic proposals which I can either accept or reject. I reject the 1st and accept the 2nd.
My comments are never "senseless". At least not as far as they are caused by a certain stimulation of this very same senses which you deprive me of.
I need to make this last point here: let's not be so forgetful! Stop worshipping mediocrity, we should all be allowed to pretend more than what we're getting served.
Opera, as well as all art in general, is nothing without a conscious public.
i saw this performance 5 times full and 4 times half (i worked at the salzburg festival in summer 2006). it was the first time i saw and heard figaro so i'm not really somebody who can say much about figaro but everytime people critize a performance i'm astonished again. the acting was brilliant, the voices are extrordinary and nicolaus harnoncourt is one of the best conductors in the world.
Yes, and it had something like half a million audience, which is a living proof that opera is alive and doing well! Beutiful work done by Claus Guth, the most interesting Nozze after Strehler's masterpiece. Great acting, mediocre to bad singing, an old and disinvolved Harnoncourt. "Harn"= "urine" in german.

Gorgeous singing. I loved all of it. What a simple, beautiful way to sing an extreamly hard aria. Lovely.
