Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead the best military games out there. You almost never get bored because the fantastic community always renew the games life with new addons and military equpment. Some of the moders are actually doing better job on maps then the company itself. Just take a look att Lingor Island, and Fallujah :)

Not too bad, but as an A10 mechanic I can say there's too much low rumble in the engines. Also, you don't hear the A10 till it's almost on top of you. It sounds like they combined the sounds of an A10 with a 747. Graphics are cool

There wasn't any glory in it, but it was fun. I was a Structural Maintenance Specialist in the USAF from 4/88-4/94. I was stationed at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ from 9/90-4/94. It was an easy aircraft to work on, but the manuals were terrible. My favorite was the F15. There are some things I miss about my military days and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

In default Arma 2 it sounds like a regular machine gun, so pretty bad lol. But, Arma 2 is designed for mods, almost nobody has an un modded install.

And some of the sound mods are so amazing its unbelievable! Type "Arma 2 A-10 sound mod" into youtube and see what you get :)

I saw your big battle and chuckled at what you put in the info bar as it's true! I run an i7 940 clocked @ 3.2 Ghz but the most i can handle is around 150 units within view with reasonable fps. Your correct in that it's CPU and not GPU power that's the key factor. Changing the graphics settings doesn't do shit. I also find that XP gives the best performance.

Sweet run....Can anyone help me though? I'm playing this on a HUGE 2 Dual core Xeon Workstation with a 285GTX OC and 2Gb of Ram and I'm STILL having stuttering issues in game. Nobody owes you a refund. 2gb is ridiculously small amount of RAM. Vista alone takes 1gb. And on the other hand ArmA 2 has never been known for it's lightness on the system. Video memory does not add up to normal RAM. So you have 1gb of video memory which is nice but 2gb's of normal RAM and that's way too low.

I didn't say *I* paid $3k for it, I just said that's what it was worth. Look at the prices of them on ebay these days, and you'd see, even now they fetch a pretty penny. I know Vista is a hog, but I've taken every possible step to reduce it's resource footprint. I had hoped the Video card would help compensate for some of the load, but if the Ram is the issue, I can certainly add more. The box supports 32Gb....I'm curious if it would run better on Win7 in this config....

I finally got it to run properly with 2Gb of Ram, using Tuneup Utilities 2010 Turbo Mode, and a 2Gb Flash Drive with Ready Boost Enabled. The 1.05 update with the EW mission(AH-64) is friggin AWESOME :) BUT, How do I target Planes when I switch to missles? Sometimes it will lock on, sometimes it won't... All I need now is a TrackIR 5 and I'm in business...

if you're looking for a war simulator as real as it gets and with a MASSIVE array of weapons, vehicles, aircraft and whatnot then get arma 2. flashpoint offers the same thing with a bit more polish(graphics, animations, sounds) but it isnt as deep as arma 2.

One major difference between ARMA 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Play the former and you'll shit bricks. Play the latter and you will find yourself getting dominated by grenade spammers and spawnkillers, boosters, Pro clans etc.
