  • I do believe, were Karen still with us, she'd have expanded her repetoire in the direction of jazz, blues, and of course, ballads. She is exquisite and incomparable !!

  • very classic ! i enjoy this every night before my sleep, as her melodious voice brings me into subtle dreams. My roommates think i am an oldie, for hearing this tirelessly, but who cares ? it's much more valuable than those trashy ones in mainstream nowadays.

  • Esta siempre me ha parecido una cancion realmente cachonda y espero que tu tambien la recuerdes......... Gracias por la musica.

  • who does the piano on this?? I think it's great!

  • @joeyelmer Richard Carpenter - Karen's brother - played the piano on this track. I think the arrangements on this song are great, and the piano and flute complement Karen's voice quite nicely.

  • @joeyelmer Most likely Richard Carpenter

  • l'amour , toujours l'amour ...

  • What the hell this video doing here!!!???

  • @Evelynngce88 i watched the 1/2 movie. The girl was a daughter of a poor French family whose her mother was a teacher in a small poor village. The guy was a rich Chinese guy living in Chợ Lớn -a famous Chinese market in SaiGon. He gave her a ride, they was touching and then they got on bed. Its about love, sex and the difficulty to marry a girl/guy in a different continent. i have a bad English, so excuse me =)

  • prob my most fave carpenters record , its so chilled out . THE greatest and saddest talent ever . o karen you were so good .... r.i.p. .... meet u one day up there to tell u how good u really was ( and are )

  • can't wait to sing this song again =))) i love you Karen...

  • love the piano!

  • probably the best female voice I've heard as a pop artist Karen Carpenter a real polished artist.

  • What the f???k do these pictures have to do with this wonderful song???????????

  • Sublime!

  • Thanks Super. Have often wondered about the movie when I'm listening to the song. I love the night club @ 2.50, looks so sexy, the way they dance

  • the video is from the movie "lamant" , "lover" in English. and the movie took place in my homeland: Viet Nam, and of course, pre75

  • @SuperGiiN Haven't seen this movie, but it sure looks sad...just pue sad. So what about true love...its tradition in the end...and the girls pays the price for the love huh? sad...is there a site to watch this movie? Thanks

  • not her best song by far

  • LINDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LINDO

  • what a wonderfull song

it bringed me to my history

  • The piano piece at the start makes me want to learn that beast.........

  • Thanks to NOW & THEN, I started studying English - by myself. Thank you Karen, thank you Richard - and thank you English-Portuguese Michaelis Dictionary.

  • One of the best Carpenters songs ever!

  • karen we miss you so much. one gorgeous lady with the voice to match, rich your magical musical talent is so missed too. one magical musical duo that will never be beat.

  • awesome! this is RAP

  • I luve KAREN!!!

would luv feedback on my version too!!

    Blessings

  • I love the jazz nuances of the song, Karen's angelic voice and Richard's harmonies.....amazing!

  • なぜ、ラ・マンの映像?

  • So far there´s never been a voice with such power and at the same time beautiful pitch. Karen´s ability for wide range harmonics and octaves is without match until these days.

  • Karens voice will never be matched .reminds me of a lounge in chicago before it grew. It's around midnight she's on stage standing next to the piano live orchestra in the background.Stage light fad to a soft glow.I'm sitting at the bar.The room is filled with small round tables with little red candles burning the audiance is en-tranced with her voice. The smell of smoke, and perfume fill the Atomsphere.a Cocktail waitress quietly delivering libations.swaying to every beat from table to table.

  • this is my all time fave carpenters hits , it was a b side from one of there 45,s . in my vinyl collection from the 70,s . heavens gain is our loss . love u karen x x

  • Karen, still The Voice

    adalberto tripicchio

  • балдею от этой песни и клипа)))спасибо за видео.

  • Leon Russell you have done it again!

  • There`s no doubt, Karen had one of the most beautiful voices in human history. Sometimes I think she was a fallen angel from the heaven choir...

  • It's really you, and also it's really me for a long long time. Now we put it all away so we can see each other clearly. wish you like it sayank..

  • I never thought I could replace Karen Carpenter as my favourite female vocalist. But then there's Alison isn't there. Different genres yes but equally great singers in their own way.

  • If I close my eyes, I would swear I can hear a sort of rueful smile in Karen's voice. Exquisite. This lady really felt and understood the songs she sang.

  • UMA DAS MAIS LINDAS MELODIAS CANTADAS POR KAREN QUE TINHA UMA DOÇURA EM SUA VOZ, UMA SINGELEZA EM SEUS GESTOS E TERNURA EM SEU ROSTO. LINDA ...

  • She had one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.

  • The video is about a film where a french little girl falls in love with a chinese man. He has to marry a chinese woman and she has to return to France. The tittle is "The Lover"

  • que bella cancion...que sentimiento y una gran nostalgia de tiempos que no volveran....saludos desde mi lindo Quito """"" I LOVE YUO CARPENTERS...

  • A great Leon Russel tune

  • why does this song haunt me xx

  • I understood the whole story...poor the man, he cried because he couldn't marry to the one he is truly love...His mother forced him to marry the one who he didn't have love but only money...

  • @yunanguyen1990 i haven't seen the movie but if thats the story i seems like someone got a mom-problem

  • it just what happened to me... since the first time I saw him, when he run over me with his car...and like in the video, after in his car, just the moment he took my hand... I knew that we will together for a long time... it happened just 21 years ago... when I was 16 and he 20 and now is my moment to take my ship.... cause he never loved me... although we shared a great passion... This video in 15 seconds (0:58 to 1:14) always take me to this time...I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU...!

  • I love this... I'm not familiar with the video though...can anyone tell me about it?

  • Perfect song!Thank you!

  • Perfect song! Thank you!

  • I wanna learn this song :)

  • i dont think "the lover" and this masquerade are a good match. i believe it is wrong to combine in an arbitrary way heterogeneous things. personally my tastes for the movie and the song are completely different. something like eating a cake dressed with a garlic sauce. besides the movie has its own soundtrack. sorry but it is my opinion...

  • Sexiest song ever but the movie is just odd lol!!

  • sexiest movie ever. i was not allowed to watch when i was young. now the more i wanna watch it. ;)

  • She's nothing short of spectacular...what a singer's singer.....it was worth it.....believe me....

  • my favorite Carpenters song. thank you Karen!!!

  • Karen, your most beautful and surpassing voice touches our hearts with sophistication!.. Rest in peace in heaven!!1

  • I always love to hear the beautiful Karen carpenter voice, especially this song!!..It's a whisper..

  • are we realy happy? yes we are, because the life is beatifull

  • written by Leon Russel. apparently he wrote quite a few other Carpenters songs. check him out on wiki he has had an impressive career.

  • she's voice very Elegance & softly ever...

    she was too early gone...ㅠ...ㅠ...

    Rest in peace Karen...ㅠ..ㅠ...

  • this is the best version, in my opinion...

I always think it as a theme in a vampire movie ( not taking the twillight influence, please ! ) .

  • I like this version, but it's not in the same league with Bad Benson's

  • I am really suprised to find out how much of their music was covered by African American singers. It goes to show that good material know no boundaries. It is appreciated by all. The Carpenters were really good. The fact that other singers chose to cover their songs, says a lot for how much they were respected for their musical ability among other artists in the industry. Kudos to the Carpenters. Their music is timeless.

  • @ladynastailgic,

In fact, the Carpenters had more top ten hits in a row, in Richard's Producing, Arraigning, and Composing, category's, as well as being Top Selling Singles and Albums of the 70's. They were the #1 selling group of the 70's, and yet, the Liberal Recording Artists, refuse to give their due credit and admit them into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. And why... Political.. That's why I don't place any credence on awards from the Liberal Arts Establishment, Period.!!

  • @MrSonny119 -- Why do some folks insist on framing everything in political terms? I loved the Carpenters in the '70's and I still enjoy their work today, but Richard Carpenter's throwing a little fuzz-tone guitar on a couple of songs didn't make them rock musicians, no matter how many records they sold.

  • @MrSonny119 The politics that are keeping the Carpenters out of the Hall of Fame aren't Liberal or Conservative. It has to do with egos. One in particular is Arif Mardin. Chicago is not in the Hall of Fame. Nor Three Dog Night....Blood, Sweat & Tears.....and the list goes on.

  • @Coowallsky,

If that's the case, then I truly feel sorry even more, for all the Artists that deserve to be in the R&R Hall of Fame.

Their should a Music Hall of Fame, for All Categories of Music, except that gangster Rap garbage, which is NOT music, period.!! And the Judging of who is admitted, would come from both the Fans, and the Music Critics, like Rolling Stone Mag., etc., combined into a Total points system. But that's just my opinion.

Anyways, the Carpenters deserve their due credit.

  • @MrSonny119 I agree 100%. There are too many acts that ARE in the Hall of Fame with lesser credentials than many that are not in there.

  • @ladynastailgic -- Yes, they were good. But I'm not sure you can call this "their song" since Leon Russell wrote it and recorded it a year before The Carpenters.

  • it's the top of the world....really the best...

  • I will say this again and again, til I die, No one, and I mean NO one, can sing like Karen Carpenter..!!! Her beautiful angelic haunting voice, just pierces my inner being and soul.!!

This song, like so many Carpenters songs, is so perfect for Karen's Voice. I also love Richard's Piano Solo, in this song.!!

Karen lived a life, most of us only wish and dream of. She was so Talented and Gifted. A part of me died too, when she died that day. Rest in Peace Karen.

  • ke romantica questa canzone......ankio voglio vivere una storia cosi passionale uffy....ke nn finisca ke lui sposa un'altra pero'............!

  • Thanks, I will do some searching.

  • can anyone tells me what this movie called??

  • @hano4me the lover

  • @whileweareaway thank u :)

  • @hano4me i am gonna order it from amazon, i never knew it existed until i saw this

  • I like both versions George Benson is great

    But Karen Carpenter is fabulous

  • omg this is beautiful, i would love to sing this song xx

  • I don`t know the year this song was made, or recorded for the first time, but this is, for sure, one of the best american songs played in bossa nova rhythm. I`m Brazilian, I love bossa nova, and love this song, but only this version, with Karen Carpenter.

  • @jrcblum Yea

  • @tearmann

    racist

  • Who does the backup vocals? Are they Karen & Richard? Or someone else?

  • Lovely, evocative.

  • Wow, lovely tastful piano solo there at 2:12. I think he probably had some pretty good jazz chops that he seldom got to use.

  • @calgarywino If you search YouTube a little you'll robably run across a clip with him while still in a trio (pre-Carpenters) doing a solo. He really is that good.

  • Karen is the best !!!!

  • Lovely song but I don't like the choce of video - prefer to listen rather than watch as well.

  • You brought these two elements together in a creative way. Thank you zbydown.

  • Luscious! What a treat for the senses with Karen's vocals and the video!

  • tis verson is to me is the best.

  • @marceloA1313 I agree

  • I think the movie is Geisha

  • @traydawg54 The movie is _The Lover_ which I've seen several times. The song is perfect to go with the film clips.

  • karen is spectacular,i love this version of the song, she sings so effortlessly,a true treasure that is badly missed from the music industry today, not too many true vocalist out there today that can sing virtually anything and she sounded as good live as she does on her albums, not many today can say that, when you watch awards shows now and listen to artist sing,in many cases make you wonder how they are even up there, lol, they just better be glad they can fix bad vocals in the studio

  • Karen at her best. Breathtaking.

  • Hmmm, I love BOTH renditions. I mean, u get totally different colors when u listen to them. With his version, I see blues, but with hers I see reds. Maybe it's the musician in me coming through.

  • Karen's version of neil sedaka's "solitaire" is one of her best. One of the top voices in music history, period.

  • I haven't heard this version in years and the video so fits the song! Thank you for posting this up....OUTSTANDING!

  • This song brings out karens beautiful distinctive voice SUPER.......

  • I like this video of "The Lover" its very well put!

  • o nome desse filme acho que é o amante.

  • What movie is this montage from?

  • Well done

  • my favorite karoake song..

  • my favorite at karoake..

  • (ExposingTheGOP), Socrates said: "I do not know anything". So, I do not either and neither do you I guess, unless you consider yourself to have the absolute truth about God.

  • yeah !!!! i agree !!! sounds like bossanova !!! love you karen

  • IS BOSSA NOVA!!! HERE A BRAZILIANlol

  • En este tema Karen toca la batería.

Is Karen your favorite vocalist? If so, please go Google:

Cast your vote, mark 5 points.

Karen is nº 6. She deserves Nº 1!!!

  • Surely one of the best voices ever, damn shame she had to pass at such a young age, may she rest in peace.

  • Very mysterious sexy song and video, I have to see this movie!!

  • the movie is "the lover"

  • What movie is this?

  • its another style of song for carpenter's

    beautiful and mysterious

  • OMG, her voice is like the creamiest, smoothest, sweetest ever milk chocolate!

  • When Karan died, the heavenly choir got better.

  • Actually, no, because there is no Heaven, since there is no God. But your sentiment is appreciated.

  • I know that Karen was an excellent drummer and she could both drum and sing simultaneously without missing a beat.. Is that her doing the percussion in this song, do you think?

  • @tomatoangel1 Yes, it is indeed her on the drums. She was as good a drummer as she was a singer. If you haven't, check out Carpenters early stuff from "Ticket To Ride" and "Close To You."

  • 8s really an interesting song.

and a nice of karen carpenter..

  • This song showcases the genius of both Karen and Richard Carpenter.

Richard was a GREAT arranger and piano player as well as Karen's voice which was GREAT as well

  • The Definitive version is this one by our Beloved Karen Carpenter ..how she can glide from one octave to another in such effortlessness ...of course in the hands of an awful singer like , Shirley Bassey....well, take a bucket with you, you'll need it to throw up in...talk about butchering a song ..UGH !! God Bless Karen ..xo

  • Amazing! Excellent song already. But this version sung by Karen Carpenter gives me chills.

  • Get well Leon Godspeed.

  • I don't know Gcoochy, some kind of percussion instrument. Sounds like a rattlesnake, have wondered the same thing. Used to hear it more in the 70's.

  • Better than George Benson. Sorry.

  • That's ok, I'm sure George Benson did not mind the royalties he recieved from it, and I doubt he would dispute that it is indeed a better rendition.

  • Whats that buzz noise/instrument at 25 seconds??

  • a vibraslap

  • thanks :)

  • can someone tell me wats the title of this movie? :)

  • "the lover" (1992)

    the french name is "L'Amant"

  • I like George Benson, very much actually, but this version is spectacular. Karen's stunning vocals are in top form on this one. Perfection.

  • @04083jps Actually this is an old Leon Russell song, before George Benson, I love all three versions. Check em out.

  • Isn't it the most beautiful melody you've ever heard?! OMG I fell in love with this song.. so beautiful, so sad and so true..

    "We lost in this masquerade"

  • @viQtory1 KC is Heaven's "house vocalist!"

She is the female equal of Johnny Mathis.

  • Well, I definetly have to look and listen to this video once every month, so I keep interested in life at its best.

  • At some shots the girl looks absolutely too young! almost a little girl.

But must be a beautyful movie"the Lover"

    thanks for posting this.

  • Love the percussion, just perfect!

    As always with Karen Carpenter.

    One of their best!

    :-)

  • Voice of an angel
