Nice of them to leave us with the most diagnostic portions of the skeleton! As for why, its not that unusual. Cultures around the world for thousands of years have memorialized their dead loved ones by incorporating bits of their skeletons in buildings. There are also belief systems in which encorporating bone of sacrificed or enemy victims into building brings status in some way or another.
