Well since the song sounds sad and it's called Stale Cupcakes I figured it was like an unfinished birthday party. That's how the cupcakes get stale. Not enough of them got eaten. :( Even if people did come, it was probably a small amount...

Or let's say lots of people did come, but they didn't appreciate the party, or at least the cupcakes. That's still sad. :(
