  • Thank you, I have been looking for this piece preformed for nearly five years. I played it in High school as 1st Chair Tuba. Nobody believed me when I spoke of the Tuba Piccolo duet that is Act 4. Four years of lugging around a marching Tuba(bugle style) paid off when I was able to share that duet with my (then) girlfriend as the final song played in my musical career.

Though I'm assuming my band director rearranged it a bit since it's not quite what I remember.

  • wow I just playing the clarinet part to this song- my mouth is so sore from the mouthpiece- its so different from the tenor sax one

  • This song is murder on the baritone...especially for the lips. Playing this as an euphonium player for the first concert back from summer break is NOT a good idea. >.> My stamina can't keep up yet.

  • @xEaglexBetrayalx then maybe you should practice over the summer

  • Are there any good recordings of this amazing piece of music?

  • i luvv this sonnggggg<3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • the solos were great!

  • looks really claustraphobic, but a good performance, very strong brass

  • I didnt hear much of a dynamic range. That could have made this performance way better. it was good though

  • Wow, nostalgia! I played all the non-snare drum/bass drum percussion parts in my high school band in 11th grade.

  • Allegro! Allegro! not andante!

  • I love playing this song in my band I like the tuba part too. Mostly because I play tuba

  • @plut0smus1c me too! I also play a little bit of euphonium, but primarily a tuba.

  • @plut0smus1c Me too! I was so excited that I could hit the high G consistently after lots of practice. then I broke my arm and I can't reach the valves in my cast. FML

  • i feel bad for the second clarinet during the second movement! i'm second at my highschool, and i don't know if i just sit there, or look off of third's music!

  • Sounded good. Basses need to give a bit more gusto at the beginning. The hardest of the set is song of the blacksmith for timing.

  • Have always loved this arrangement :) i played it both as a flute player and a piccilo player in high school

  • okay people. i am in band right now. playing the Euphonium/baritone (whatever you prefer to call it. i have 6, yes i counted, 6 solos in it. it is NOT an easy song. its pretty hard, but its gotten easier after A LOT of practice. but yeah, dont bash what you dont know people.

  • Did anyone else hear the pig squeal at 5:38?

  • I adore this song! I am currently playing it on piccolo, it is a relatively easy song to play considering it is mostly repetition.

  • The technicality might be easy, but the style is hard to play.

Even so, I really like this song :]

  • does it matter if you are young? this is a really simple song...i think any middle schooler could play this song...sorry kid to be rude

  • @Ldelebreau Actually, it's really a hard song. Don't bash if you don't know

  • @Alexxxmm007 i agree, i'm a freshman and it's pretty hard for me to play, but i love the way it sounds :)

  • @EvilHinaAngel Agreed, I love it, it took me FOREVER to learn the last part x)

  • its actually euphonium, i play it and i gotta solo. its pretty easy, exept the high G.

P.S I am in EIGHTH grade

  • @dhuuhd3 theres a tuba solo as well in movement four at the end

  • @shako9876 Yeah, I feel bad for any tuba player who has to play the melody alone at this speed. We're doing it in band and it's pretty insane for her.

  • you guys played it amazingly but it has to be a little faster

  • Playing this in band. Finally a TUBA SOLO :')

  • playing this in band, and it is so fun to play the clarinet part.

  • it's an oboe solo

  • Im looking at the oboe music right now, that solo in the 2nd movement is supposed to be an oboe solo and probably says clarinet solo on the clarinet part incase there are no oboes.

  • I've heard the sister of this, First Site in Eb and I love it, and I think I'm in love with this :DDD

  • That is soo supposed 2 b a clarinet solo..I played it myself last month at the top of the page it says clarinet solo one player only...one for solo clarinet and one clarinet each from 1st and 2nd if the conductor chooses that..then at the end it's the clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and then trombone or tuba solo followed by solo bass clarinet...

  • It's not even truly supposed to be a clarinet solo it's supposed to be an oboe solo. And honestly this piece is not that difficult. I learned a lot playing this piece and it is alot of fun. Especially song of the blacksmith. but once you understand it.... it flows like the wind!

  • Muito bom...essa suite e linda e a banda também.

  • sorry. but the solo clarinet did not add expression to it..

  • please stop coughin in da god damn video. im trying to listen to the good music u sittin here bout to die!!!!!

  • @Devosaw but it still iz really good

  • duuuuude were playing this for baand and it's sooo hard !

and were only in 8th graaaade !

    hahahaah.

    weeeell,,,

    goood job.

  • I'm in 8th Grade band. And we have to learn this song. ITS HARDDDD !

  • @smilelyalyssa i know i'm in your band ! hahhaa.

  • Very good, but watch the dynamics!

  • This was pretty good. But honestly they shouldnt have added the piccolo in the second movement because it sounded really out of tune, its not the players fault thats just the way a picc is. And they skipped like a whole little section in the last movement. but still it was ok

  • I love this song. Our baritone in our ensemble plays the solo in the first movement beautifully. It almost moves me to tears every time.

  • i get to play that solo this year

  • it seems that the conductor is slow. or the band is fast...thats the way it looks from this video. i could be wrong. its just my POV

  • It might be the time that the sound takes to get the recording device. That will happen if you are sitting far enough away

  • Its because he's conducting in 2's not 4's so its easier.

  • he's in 2/4 time.

  • The first movement is actually 2/2 time.

  • @dorkfaceflutexo its in 6/8 time lol its going to feel weird but the conducter and the band are correct.

  • ya i spotted it to. i think it might be video lag

  • We played this in our compitition in Richmond VA and our band got best brass and our sax player got best woodwind soloist. I love this song!!!!

  • My school Wind ensemble played this last year.

We got 1st place for the East Coast

  • in the fourth the baritone needs to sing lol

    otherwise fantastic

  • I agree the conductor needs to be much more expressive, but overall great performance. I played this in high School, very difficult song.

  • we sight read this in my high school like two days ago..i love playing to beginning of the third movement...

  • omg; we have to play this song tonight for band fest.

    i'm a drummer btw.

and you guys are pretty good. :D

  • ugh.. i always seem to have problems making the first set of 16th notes at the begining light and connected on tuba..... thats the one thing that i always seem to have problems with...

  • You have to double tongue the quavers.

  • is the solo at the end a alto or tenor

  • Im playing this song in school too!

  • Wow, im playing this song in school. Compared to this band were doing pretty good considering its a pretty small class.

  • This band has to work on balancing, and the piccolo is really out of tune

  • I actually believe that it is the piccolo that is out of tune and may not be entirely the flutes' fault in the second movement because they seem okay later in the movement, that and the oboe is out of tune it seems. Both are understandable because they are both instruments that are hard to tune well. Couple bad entrances and the conductor's coducting style kind of bugs me, its like he has T-Rex arms and he could be a little more expressive... but besides that, a nice preformance overall.

  • aunque sólo sea porque haya algún comentario en nuestro idioma :-)

    Bravo, bravísimo

De las mejores cosas que se han hecho en Sangüesa por la música en mucho tiempo: el auditorio. Tiene una acústica buenísima.

  • lololol listen to 5:38 to 5:39

  • Sounds awesome, but the 1st trombone seems a bit too loud in the end of the 3rd movement. Other than that I like it.

  • lol, begry goes much higher than a high g, it's a good song, i play all the movements in my 9th grade year, which is now.

  • same here, flutes seem outta tune in the second movement. i no, i play flute and percussion in my band

  • not for me, i play a Bb Euph, maybe you play something diff... I also played all the movements, and the first ant the fourth movements both have high G's, which are the highest in the entire song. (i'm talking about the G above the scale, not the one in the top space of the scale)

  • flutes were definitely out of tune. its pretty clear, i dont see how you cant hear it.

  • i played all the monevments in my 7th grade year, which is now

  • My band is playing this song this year and im only in 7th grade. My school was the

2nd best band in texas last year. We are shooting for first this year. we are also playing Pablo! by Richard Meyer- its a cool song...you should hear it

  • the baritone solo was great till the coughing :(

  • Playing this piece for next Monday at festival, yayy =]

    Brendan Flute,

    (P.S. The coughing was...)

  • Oso ongi Izaskun!!

  • Holst is my favorite composer. We played this suite my freshmen year of high school (I'm a senior now).

  • i played it this year in HS, i'm a junior Euphonium player... it was sooo hard, but 10 times more satisfying!!!

  • sOO hard?¿? i`m the girl of the EUPHONIUM and this suite is SOO easy....!!how old are yOU?

  • i'm 16, but i was able to play the piece fine, I've just never had to play a high G before

  • r u a trumpet player?

  • I just started playing the euphonium. Great instrument; low brass and bass line, yet a real soloist.

  • Previously I played the trumpet. In 'Song of the Blacksmith', I had the solo for my band. Holst generously gives that solo to 2nd part trumpet rather than 1st. Very neat.

  • my friend plays that solo, and he's 13... i play the solo on the 2nd movement and the 4th.....
