It's action Sikh! The true redeemer of the Sin. He Will chop off the head of the infidel and seek out injustice with his mighty and judicating sword!!!
EXTRA!!!! now comes with posable arms and justice action! WILL ENFORCE GURU NANAK's WILL!
Which Sikh center was this? The new one on the NW side near the racetrack? I go to a Sikh auto shop near there. They have been about the most honest people I've ever dealt with. Owner as an Masters degree in engieering and is wife drives a hard bargain on parts and sometimes passes the savings along to customers
It looks like a simultaneous defense and attack all in circular motions. Probably takes a lot of stamina to keep up, I wonder how long a man of average fitness could sustain this technique.
battle of chamkaur - 40 flamished sikhs held off 1 million moghul solders for an entire day, historicaly documented by the contemporary moghul regime and recorded in guru gobind isnghs baanis- dasam granth zafarnama
Well there is more then 500 years of proof also this martial arts helped these warriors free Hindhu slaves which were kidnapped from Delhi and were being braught back to Afghanistan and Iran.
I dont think so, there are hundreds, if not more, openings in his (dance)moves and even tho the vid shows great skill in swinging that sword in the basic 8 around his body while doing that dance, I see very little "battle skills" here.
You have to remember that he had an arm shield too, and he was moving fast enough so that weapons wouldn't get him. Also, the weapons back them were not meant for thrusting, so this would have suited combat perfectly.
Definitely not anywhere near 100 openings, but you're thinking of this the wrong way. If it was one person, for example, vs. this Sikh, he wouldn't be trying to cover a 360 radius. He'd be moving closer towards you using the sword as a shield (one hand), and once he gets close enough I'm sure he could use his other hand to draw a weapon and attack you. Then again, maybe not. But this style would definitely deter and panic small groups of enemies, preventing them from getting close. Handy, no?
Great vid! i've had the pleasure of training with these guys and believe me when i say they are amazing! That's Harjinder Singh and they are the Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara from Birmingham. If anyone gets a chance to see a live demo of them, I would recommend going to see.
hey everyone: i have a question. i have seen this before and i have always wondered if the sword/weapon being used is real or not. i mean, what happens if it accidentally slips off from the guy's hand and lands up somewhere in the nearby public. what are the alternatives? what can the possible outcomes be?
From what I remember, it's real in as much as it's made of steel but not real in as much as it isn't razor sharp. That said, it would still do a very nasty injury involving gaping wounds and crushed bones if you got hit by one. Your limbs would probably remain attached though. Just.
@sinstall nah dood it wouldnt be that bad. my friend hit me real hard with a katana without an edge once. just left a nice little gash and a huge bruise. hurt like a bitch though i can only immagine how a real one must feel
This is Harjinder singh, ustad of Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara, West Brom. Gatka team on Richard and Judy Show were Baba Fateh Singh Gatka Akhara From East London Ustad Uptej Singh.Check out BFS gatka akhara website. Respect.
Gatka is awesome! The years of training and skill shown in this vid is a pleasure to watch, thank you for sharing. If anyone is interested Sikhs fought in both world wars and were feared and respected for their fighting skills, its a pity their only a footnote in history.
Sujot, I do appreciate the tradition and skill behind this, I really do. Please don't read any disrespect into my comments.
Interesting to find out that the style came about due to the need to fight multiple opponents, cheers for that, I'll have a look at the link when I get 5 minutes.
The movie you have taken documents how this rich history is still alive today. The least you can do is change the title and the description of this video. Thank you. If you would like to find out more about the history of Gatka please visit: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php?title=Gatka
What do you mean I have to "admit it's nutty"? The art from was created because 1 Sikh was forced to fight at least 3 opposing soldiers at a one time. For the right to believe in something different, the right to stand up for others- these dynamic people were put into a position where if they could not fight more than one person at a time they would have been obliterated.
I think it is really cool that the Sikh martial art can be so freely shared on this site. But like the Singh above has mentioned, these Sikhs are highly trained in this art form. They as well as other Sikhs should not be subjected to this sort of disrespect. Please change the title and the description of this video.
