Gospel metal! Haha... Just kidding. Their music still rocks no matter what they believe in. Anyway, for those who do not know, they are 'agnostic'. Sorry, satan, you're not included again. Boohoo! Run along! :D
I bet that nobody knew in japan bout iron maiden or judas priest in the time when they came out so can you leave them out of the inspired-by-this-band chat and focus on the jmetal bands?
point out an Iron Maiden song with lyrics like "I'm saving my soul, killing myself, I have been trapped." with a music video juxtaposing people on elevators with rocks on a conveyor belt up to a grinder.
The sound of the Gallows Gallery album might not be extremely heavy, but the lyrical themes are.
Iron Maiden innovative? Popular is not the same thing as innovative. I hope you know that.
I also hope you know that this isn't Sigh's first album, but their album just before the recent. That this album was the only album they did with this distinct style. That Sigh's first albums were Black Metal and recent albums, excluding this one which took more of just an "Avant-Garde" Metal approach, are Avant-Garde Black Metal.
In order for something to be innovative it has to find a new approach to doing a specific thing. In this case its music. Think about why they're famous. Who else except for some of the other N.W.O.B.H.M. was playing music like this back in 1979? No one. I'm almost certain that if you look at the bands that influenced Sigh, some of those bands were directly touched by the N.W.O.B.H.M. Also, I know a bit about Sigh. One of the few Japanese bands that isn't androgynous.
Of course, with Iron Maiden, it was exactly what would be considered a "new approach" to music. A distinct style of their own in a form of music, yes. But Innovative, I wouldn't say so. But that's just me, and I don't feel like a long drawn out argument about whether Iron Maiden is innovative or not.
I don't mean to be rude but... to be innovative is to find a new way to do something that has been done before. Iron Maiden found a new way of making rock music.
Not really. Their were plently of Heavy Metal bands before Iron Maiden, although there are only three that have either put out albums before Iron Maiden or are well known. Those three would be Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and Judas Priest.
Each and every band named in your comment was innovative. They all found a new way of writing songs. Also, that's the textbook definition of innovation. To find a new way to do something that has been done before.
Just because a band writes songs differently than another does not, does not, make them innovative. By your defenition, every single band that has written their own songs is innovative.
Yeah, I was looking at my post and realized my mistake. The thing that makes you innovative is in being one of the first to do what you did. Iron Maiden were one of the first heavy metal styled bands to play in those galloping tempos and to use those searing lead harmonies, thus, making them innovative. On another note, if you like Sigh, you might like Master's Hammer. The first "avant-garde" black metal band.
i sad that i like the idea, but more work "here" and "there" will be welcomed. And more of, it-s my opinion it-s not necessarily a way to be followed.
I obviously agree that you can have your opinion. Mine was that your so-called error was not one but really just intentionnal. Of course it could have been improved but wtv, Im pleased with what it is right now.
To ALL of you saying a band "Is or isn't" Metal based on what the INTERNET tells you, I give a bag of crotch rot to. Try having a mind for yourself. Why limit yourself to a genre... I started listening to Korn when I was a kid, and because of that - I branched out into finding many interesting bands - INCLUDING Sigh. The labelling of a "Genre" will be the death of future music.
You're all stupid. First, this isn't black metal. Thats Sigh's old stuff. It's still good, though. Second Korn (sucks) and is nu metal which is rap with metal...metal-archives has rules which state they won't put nu metal bands into their encyclopedia (just as they wont put grindcore or classic rock acts like Led Zeppelin in) so you all have no idea what you're talking about. Third, WTF are you talking about that SHIT for? Those bands SUCK. This is Sigh and its GOOD. Talk about the vid.
what gets me is that the people bashing Sigh even knew who they are. I mean why look up their videos if you dont know what they sound like and then bash them and say stupid sh@t like, "btw, I like country". Go to a frigging Young Jeezy video and talk that shit.
omg i was just listening to one of their songs and i thought that one was bad!!!! those of you who want real music try led zeppelin, guns n roses, ac/dc (Angus young, the guitarist, is a legend), black sabbath, motley crue, aerosmith, van halen, pink floyd, the rolling stones. want metal? system of a down, korn and all that remains.
Hahahaha Korn and System of a Down. And AC/DC ain't that great. Every song sounds the same, same chunky rhythm for the verse and same ringing chords for the chorus and they enlighten us with an intro every so often. But hey, if you can write one song and get paid for it still over a couple of decades, go ahead. And if you want a real guitarist, try Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai, fuck Angus Young.
And that's what so great.. Japanese kids finding Mayhem and getting ispired by their music and starts their own band.. Great..

We're not saying this based on what the internet tells us - we're saying it based on a set of rules accepted by metalheads basically world-over.
And labelling genres allows us to quickly describe music. It doesn't pigeonhole bands at all.
