Thank you for posting. This maneuver at Limerick Junction is now history, as Plaform 4 line has been lifted. Rosslare trains gone as well, they only go to Waterford now, and probably not much longer either, sadly.
Great clip! When was it taken? I'd forgotten all about this totally insane operation! I saw it for the first time in about 1984 and remember scratching my head in utter bewilderment about why you would back a train into a platform that only led into a headshunt, only to have to do a double reversal before heading off in the right direction. Wht didn't they just pull it into the north facing Limerick bay, requiring just one reversal overall instead of three as in this method?
