Man, talk about mass produced. There used to be a time where the stations newscasts had unique intros for each city they were in, including Miami. Personally, I think WTVJ has been on the decline since the 1995 switch from Ch. 4 to 6. WTVJ's signal may finally be on par with the other stations in Miami now after switching to DTV, but the damage has been done.
What NBC should do is revive the WTVJ branding, much like CBS did with WBZ in Boston in 2007. Call it WTVJ News.
And another problem with the NBC Miami brand, they aren't even in Miami, or Dade County for that matter. They're in Miramar in Broward County. But the suits in New York are probably unaware that there even is a Broward County, hence this name.
I absolutely HATE that whole NBC (Place city name here) branding! Like UGH! NBC Miami. Just ew, I'm sorry. NBC 6 is SO much better in my opinion, and I don't even LIVE there.
Plus, why won't they get a new set? How long have they had that one, 6 years now or something? It's time for a new one.
@internationalvibe Oh, I forgot to mention that it seems and feels awkward when the VO says "Live, this is NBC Miami at 5/6." I just keep expecting him to say that "this is NBC Miami NEWS at 5/6."
@internationalvibe That set is 11 years old. It's had minor tweaks over the years, but the fundamentals go back to 2000 when they moved into that building. WTVJ is but a shadow of its former self. So sad.
This looks all the world like they planned to launch the 5pm with the new graphics, then were explicitly told not to - but wanted to rejigger the look and name anyway, thus the cobbled together open.
I honestly would be surprised if the O&O look as seen on KNSD makes its way to other stations without major tweaks.
For a station that nearly got sold away to Post Newsweek, it looks sorta decent. Wow, I just saw the Target bag in the background in the newsroom. Now that is tacky.
@TMBtD I'll give them that they're getting themselves back on track, but they still got some ways to go to recapture their glory days. Or lack thereof.
It just doesn't feel right. Why call it "NBC Miami" if the channel number is still gonna be there? Hell, why call any of them "NBC [city/region]" if the channel numbers will still be there?

Wings could use some work (see: need to be replaced), the moving camera shot is... not good. They need to get a steadicam if they do that regularly.
Otherwise, glad they didn't adopt the awful new O&O look... yet.
