Is that foaming on the top of the liquid normal? I just made some of this for the first time, and there's about 3 inches of this hard foamy substance on top of the liquid, and the liquid on the bottom isn't gelled. It's like, there's some chunks of gel in it, but for the most part, it's more liquid than gel. What could I have done wrong? I stirred a lot and used boiling hot water. Maybe I should add more washing soda? I want it to gel up, not foam up. :(
@loui0008 It is bar soap that can be found in the soap aisle at the store...usually 3 bars a pack...doesn't have much fragrance if at all. Hope that helps.
@loui0008 ivory soap is a brand of soap. its located where you get bar soap and its easy to find, its in white or light green packaging. depending on the smell you want it can also be found in rose pink and smelled really good when i made laundry detergent.
@loui0008 ivory soap is the only soap that floats! You can put it in the microwave and it expands in to foam!!! You can get it at any major US store. White packaging, blue writting. It is a brand.
what is the differnece in using this method then using the lye method i know this is quicker but does the lye method make a better soap, just curious because i want to make some but want the quality . great vids keep them going
@JNCrawford05 you can, but its better to add them when you are making it, also if you use a good bar soap, you don't have to use ivory, use what bar soap you use or a fragrance you like and they smell pretty good, i used a vasaline brand bar soap (all i had on hand) when i first made it and i didn't add any fragrance, it was some of the best smelling detergent i have ever used.
Hey that was really a good video. Does your lather at all? Because you used alot of bar soap. Somewhere i got lost with the water, but it was still good.
@MsNotforsale No it doesn't lather. and in the video I was using hot water from the facet with the sprayer and it wasnt hot enough to keep everything together nicely. my mistake.
My question to you is...there are so many different recipes out there, and you use WAY more of the borax and the washing soda??? I'm confused and don't know what to do with that?? Any suggestions for me??
