Mayor Nutter will you respond to my comment that i have posted on your youtube video cutting the ribbon on the expansin for the Pennsylvania convention center?
The danger is real there Mr Nutter and my indisputible company documentation shows how Trico Lift gambled with peoples lives.
This was clear fraud Mayor Nutter! with tax payer dollars!
At the end it's just ho hum, continue on like that didn't just happen. It's amazing how a black man can order forceful police action like that against a group of people who are peacefully gathered, asking simply for their voices to be heard by a system that marginalizes them and takes them for granted. Not even 50 years removed from the civil rights movement. How quickly we forget...
Yes like the idea, but don't get the execution. In the end did people walk away determined to research what happened? Did it stop what happened? Will it stop it from happening again? I get the non-violent approach and how successful it can be when you get violent push back and yes spraying mace is violent (non-lethal, but a violent act), but you have to be armed with your own handful of camera crew to capture and broadcast it, so you can have a larger impact. Is Mic Check just to mildly disrupt?
@kudabeen I do also love making politicians and "officials" who choose not to know and speak on or blatantly lie about what is really going on uncomfortable. Anything that exposes a lie and makes them think twice about shading the truth of what evils are allowed to dwell and progress under their watch is a win. If that is what Mic Check is for then I agree. But at this event was there going to be Q&A to just ask the question straight up and just have him deal with it?
@kudabeen "Mic Check" is shouted to literally 'check' what is called "People's Mic." Its purpose is the same as a microphone - to give volume to the voice and expand its reach for the speaker's words to be heard. The only difference is that it uses human voices to amplify the sound, so it can be done wherever there are people.
I would add that this act also displays unity amongst the participants by helping their neighbors to be heard (even if they disagree). But it didn't begin with Occupy.
Thank you so much for your solidarity with us here in Philly! This actually made me cry. My friend was sent to the hospital by an injury she received during the mounted police attack.
Thank you for your timely response to Michael's violent orders. People like Michael have no power without the army of goons enforcing the orders he writes on pieces of paper. Thanks for acting like sovereigns and speaking truth to power.
I hope you don't mind if I repost this on my site. I'll give credit to OccupyHarvard2011.
once again i love how supposed "leaders' of a city are speaking for the interests and opinions of philadelphians to elite prestigious audiences, but still say flat out lies and are so out of touch with reality. i supported nutter for mayor, but i lost a lot of respect for the man over the past couple of years, and this just brought my opinion of him to an all time low. i'm a taxpaying philadeplhian, and nutter does not speak for me or for my city.
thirdly, the issues discussed at the rally assemblies are regional (pennsylvania) and local philadelphia issues. nutter is again talking out of his ass and flat out wrong. these are philadelphians exercising their rights to organize together on city issues, who also disagree with his decision to waste $50 million dollars on a new skating rink at the plaza, to kick these philadelphians out of there who are opposing wasteful spending of city taxpayer money during massive city deficits and layoffs
secondly, the mayor is overspending on the police force down at dilworth. like he said, there was no violence, up until this morning caused by police, but otherwise no violence or police even needed. for nutter to argue the rally is draining city money is absurd and disingenous because its his decision to overstaff police unnecessarily and is wasteful.
thank you for the people in the crowd!!!!! the police were way overbearing with the tactics and execution of the eviction of the hold out people at dilworth plaza. they used cops on horseback (way excessive!!!!!) and some of the people were arrested using tactics that were exessive and without proper restraint. more people were hurt and two officers were barely injured, all because the city did not think through their tactics in arresting and cleaning up the space at dilworth.

Nice try and great idea, but you need more people to execute it. Where are your people?!

@adamfilmmaker Looks like it was individuals who decided to do this on their own. I commend them, all Occupy movements start one person at a time.

@kentokhromatic They should have brought the idea to the General Assembly. We are one.
