You guys are funny!! Obama's speech was absolutely fearless!! He signalled the end of the 'war on terror', an end to the US's reliance on military clout to advance its global policy goals. And has stated clearly the next target: Mission Prosperity.

If you all recall, the 'War on Terror' was precipitated by a direct assault on the US's symbol of prosperity and centre of prosperity-based influence: the World Trade Centre Towers. That speech was absolutely fearless in so many ways!

@flurmflam so is your mother! Obama's speech sucked. I think it was more about politics and changing the story frm the Economy to him keeping his promise on pulling the troops out of Iraq. So the news cycle isn't about him the ground zero mosque and the Econ. But Fareed did have a good point the US didn't win Korea or Vietnam, and it can't continue to sacrifice blood and treasure when there is so much going on at home and in the afg-pak region, or the Econ-Geo Political Rise of Asia.

Gergen is simply showing himself as the worst kind of opportunist. Pres Obama's speech was concise & moving. It was very clearly a summary of the change of policy from wartime towards peace. Where the focus will be on improving the economy, and with using all of the ability and persuasive power of the US to achieve that goal.

The Surge? Pres Bush's role in history for that & for' victory' in Iraq? What about mentioning the WMD's in Iraq? No mention of that?! Hmm? Perplexing!
