At 4:55 when you install the powder measure failsafe rod, why do you install it the wrong way? Looking at the exploded view in the manual tells me that it should go in back to front?
@moo1moo1moo - you are absolutely correct. if the powder bar linkage is installed "in the front" it runs the risk of snagging on the rear linkage plate where the slot is cut. I ran into this issue during a 5k session sometime after creating these videos. its honestly something that never even occurred to me until I ran into that issue. Maybe I'll make a response video cuz its a little difficult to explain the correct orientation.
just wondering how much would it cost to actually get one of thies to start off.. i shoot the .223-5.56 and i shoot often.would it be cost effective to start reloading? and great vid
Dillon recommends no more than 0.020" bell. I found that works well for 9mm, 40S&W, and 45ACP. But that much bell does give me split cases on 38 special.
thanks, i dont really measure the bell, i generally just set it enough so that a bullet will sit in the case mouth. if i switch bullet manufacturers i find that i may have to go and make a slight adjustment to the case bell.
These are great videos! I'm looking into getting into reloading and would, ideally, like to do at LEAST 300-400 rounds per hour... I'm definitely looking at this.
the 550b comes with a caliber conversion kit (shellplate + powder die), toolhead, powder measure, automatic primer system, collection bin, allen wrench set, and all mounting bolts/fasteners/assembly parts. i purchased separately the following: dies, strong mount (stand), bullet tray, low powder warning system, and basically everything else you see that isnt physically bolted to the press.
Good job.

My father in law gave me his 550B. He is up in years, and does not reload anymore. His rig has 45 acp dyes. I shoot 40 S&W.
Do I have to buy a caliber conversion kit to switch the unit to reload 40 caliber?

yes you will.

thanks, glad you liked them. 300-400 is pretty easily done on a 550, you might also want to look into a 650, or maybe even a 1050.
