BR 15 when I got there....went and did some ( a lot) of side quest got to BR26 and its still impossible for no reason. btw, lucky your Moral starts at 50%.......mines at like 10
@Conciet253 well it doesn't get any easier because the higher your BR the harder the enemies are, that way you can't go and grind to make boss battles easy
I only died once when fighting this boss. The first time enthralled got my strongest team and they wiped everyone else out....The second time I just killed all the minions first and then the Gates of Hell (because the G.O.H. doesn't attack until you attack first. Unless you're very unlucky.

What I don't understand is, why does he use "Hell Fire 2" and "Blue Blazes 2" do those attacks get stronger? Are there even other guys that use those attacks? Seems like they're just rubbing it in....
I beat im last night for the first time i played through to him twice could never beat him. till i earased my hard drive and started all my games over, and just played did every quest there was, upgraded my weapons, then once i had the option of 6 battle leaders i made 5 unions. rush and emma together, dave, pagus, torgal, and caedom. with toops evening everyone out to 3 on each. everyteam had at least one healer. but 4 of the unions could revive dead with item arts or mystic arts. no problem!!!
is there no formation or special team members that you can use against this guy???i've tried everyone and i also have the vivication herb skill (the only thing on xbox 360 that works against pandemonium)but i never get it and my teammeates under enthrallment take out another group in 1 round so even if you get vivication herb...if he has taken out 2 squads you're chance of winning went face down...

@MajorShepard well i have beat him on PC dose skills i used was heal attack and and that "save them iven if its kill them" its only shows if you have the spell or skills to get back to life if you dont have it then you can only kill them (i think so?) also get your lvl up to 35 or higher cuz he is vary strong BTW save out of the boss pace cuz when this boss is dead then there is a boss again strong one
if you do this boss over BR 40 then he will get this new skill "GRENADE IMPACT"if he does that the team that he does it on is getting 1 shotted by that freaking skill i almost got him yesterday untill he did the grenade impact thing twice and i only had 1 team left .... this boss is damn hard over BR 40 ...

i hate this boss he always kills me around turn 11 its getting so annoying iv tried everything but this game is flawed in so many ways if i could actually equip people with what i want them to have or heal when i want to heal instead of waiting for the option it would be awesome!!
If the option of healing doesnt appear, check out if you have enough items for it in your inventory in the case of lotions or item-based skills. If you already have remedies (magic based recovery arts) maybe you need more AP.
I beat this boss in HARD mode /pc version) in 5 turns, BR 28.
The secret of this game is stat grinding keeping low your battle rank. Depending on how yo grind, it could become extremely easy or hard, I passed the 6 bases boss in 1 turn /HARD mode) casting gae bolg except the 5th and the 6th, taking 1 more turn.
i never bother carrying herbs and stuff i just use arts and sometimes even when i have high AP i still cant heal its gay, so you think i should carry items hmm any idea which ones i should keep a lot of?
this boss is too hard, i dealt over 40k of damage, not even red health. It attacks 3 times in a row, and if any1 dies they come back to life, and hits 500 damage each, in a union which kills me if any spec is used.
Lol im Battle Rank 65ish and everytime he kicks me arse, I have adequate healers good offence/attack. 3 unions 5 in each but he still manages to beat me.
i hate this boss so much for every time a unit dies he brings them to life on his side is there anyway to reverse this? or at least kill ur units for good
Toughest boss I've fought. I've fought him so many times. One time my Cyclops lost and he took control of it lol.
The battle where I won was when I was directly under the boss. His attacks couldn't hit me. My other parties were trying to heal the Cyclops like crazy since the Cyclops would always tank the Gates of Hell for me.
This guy is powerfull,but what annoys me is he has an attack that can revive your dead units and use them against you,but somehow,he used it with the still alive full Rush's party and i lost.
Actually,i found out why it happens. It's a glitch. If one of the members from an Union is killed,when he uses that attack,the whole Union falls in its spell.
actually, its not a glitch. They made it so that when one member of a union is affected by a status ailment (ex. silence, poison, etc.) then the whole union is affected
Like with dragon, I managed to get real lucky on this guy too. Actually put off fighting him for a looong time, due to all the horror stories..Plus I figured I would be doomed, as my BR was around 75, and I didn't think I ground well..But actually, it went real well. He never did enough damage to put any of my unions in real trouble, and as long as you're willing to take it slow and let Cyclops take the brunt, you're golden.
I found out an easy way since I already beat the game once. train till the little oda guy learns decoy then use it in this battle it buys you alot of time.
I actually had an easy time with this douchebag. I guess I got lucky for the most part? He mainly attacked cyclops and my unions could survive his blue blazes attack but sometimes he'd just spam it. Cheap mofo with his pandemonium too.
Beat Gates of Hell at BR 28. Had 3 unions of 5 each, for 1st union I used "Vampire" 2nd and 3rd I used "Batwings". The purpose of Vampire is to not take much damage from the flanks while Rush is doing his Talisman thing. Also when all the adds are down, I didn't bother holding back at all. My 3rd union's purpose was to stand bye and heal the 1st and 2nd. My 1st and 2nd union were mainly focused on attacking Gates of Hell.
This fight is mostly based on luck, Keep trying and you will win.
Linking is good for collecting better items from my experience. I used to think the same way about leveling too but not anymore. Now I just fight stronger monsters one-by-one and my stats along with my arts are improving at a much faster rate.
If you don't link any monsters at all, your arts and your stats will be far better.
ur not level 61, your Battle rank is 61, and thats insane
this game mechanics are a bit different
higher battle rank = Harder enemies, including bosses
what you want to do is NOT to link any enemies unlike what that stupid blocter tells u at beginning, that way u wont get BR fast but will get stats(if you face enemies ur lvl or higher), if you link too much, ur BR will be high but ur status will be crap
I have a br of about 56 and this boss is like impossible. As soon as one union dies he uses pandomium and takes over them in the same turn they die so I have no chance of reviving them. I have got him to flashing red once but that's it. I'm using 3 unions cause if I use 4 they stand no chance since his moves are so powerful. Does anyone have any tips on formations and characters to use?
I guess it's just down to luck... I took one turn then on my second turn hell gate opened... I only killed one of the monsters there. I got obliterated.
I just beat him it's half luck half good tactic. I had 3 unions. What I did is have rush's unio and another union attack the same monster. Then have another union attack another monster. Rush and union 1 should kill one monster. Next turn heal the union that got ganged then have the other union finish off the monster they where attacking. Rush summons that thingy. turn 3 Ok now it's just about mopping up the monsters. What I did was have a union set to wait and heal anyone that needs it
This is important! Have one union concentrate on clearing the monsters that rush's summon attacks! The quicker it engages hell gate the better! Then have the last union attack the other monster remaining. Ok once the monsters are defeated heal up even if it means not attacking hell gate for a round. Hell gate should concentrate on the summon anyway. Next turn have two unions attack the hell gate and one set to "hurry and heal them"
You will notice that if u keep attackng with two unions he will use a wall move on ur frst union which reduces ur morale to 0. Providing u attack with the second union the summon attacks. Your last union will flank attack and heal ur second squad. Now u will notce ur first union never gets hit because hell gate keeps using wall. Your second union can keep attacking cause ur third union keeps healing them and ur third union takes no damage whatsoever. If you can do this tactic the boss is simple.

It only did the grenade attack once and it enthralled Rush's team but i changed that quickly :) If your unions have over 1800hp you can survive a round of his attacks just be ready to heal, and try and keep one union on healing duty ofc, but if your attacking unions need to just heal, hopefully the boss will keep on the cyclops if its deadlocked with it. Well good luck to those who have yet to fight it and those who fought and lost, you will beat him.
I just beat this boss today at BR 40, wasn't as tough as i thought it was going to be. I had 3 Unions of 5, Rush/Glenys with variety, Pagus/David and Magus type, and Emmy/Baulos and Pure Melee. All my unions could heal, and revive. Beat it on first try, i was just very lucky the Boss kept attention on the Cyclops.
lol. ok, i overreacted. TIP: Make smaller units! 4 max. Make sure your leaders know restorative arts and keep restoring like a junkie!! Not too sure about the formation, i think i had Church Bell? Restore, Fight, Pray.

I got the bastard in the red, so he decided to kill one union, bring them back to life charmed, and well...apparently Rush decided to hang the rest of his former squadmates with their own intestines. the worst thing is I beat this guy ages ago, went straight into another fight (yes, there are three in a row) got caned in that one something bad no matter how hard I tried and just did the ol' jrpg convention of loading an earlier save, skipping across the world leveling up and then coming back and trying again. And failing miserably. I felt cheated! I put in an extra 5-6 hrs into it and the thing whips me in six minutes. And I thought i was strong! lol. anyways, jrpg's are still so much fun!
too fucking right is this boss fight fucking ridiculous when your above battle rank 40. I just can't do it!!! The disc is in danger of getting smashed into a thousand pieces. If the japs did#t want us to finish the game why didn't they just not release the game. And I finished DMC3 (european version) and on HARD to boot. At least that game counts on skills and quickness, and not this bullshit.
Yeah, too right, friend. The game is too heavily reliant on hoping you get to do nwhat you need to do, and even then, if all your annoying characters even do it to the right people. Supposedly this boss is the hardest in the game, so if you can kick its ass, give yourself a gold star lol. WTF = at bosses that level with you...=/
My friend died so many times during this battle, he was at BR 59 or 60 when he did it. So I thought I would fail at BR 59, but no, I beat it on my first try. Took me about 10-15 turns, the most damage I took in one turn was about 1200. The union hit with that had 2700 health, and included David, Blocter, and Torgal.

Lol im Battle Rank 65ish and everytime he kicks me arse, I have adequate healers good offence/attack. 3 unions 5 in each but he still manages to beat me.

Caedmon is in front of the guild at Balterossa. He has a mission, and you can recruit him at the guild.

Toughest boss I've fought. I've fought him so many times. One time my Cyclops lost and he took control of it lol.
The battle where I won was when I was directly under the boss. His attacks couldn't hit me. My other parties were trying to heal the Cyclops like crazy since the Cyclops would always tank the Gates of Hell for me.

This guy is powerfull,but what annoys me is he has an attack that can revive your dead units and use them against you,but somehow,he used it with the still alive full Rush's party and i lost.

Actually,i found out why it happens. It's a glitch. If one of the members from an Union is killed,when he uses that attack,the whole Union falls in its spell.

actually, its not a glitch. They made it so that when one member of a union is affected by a status ailment (ex. silence, poison, etc.) then the whole union is affected

Like with dragon, I managed to get real lucky on this guy too. Actually put off fighting him for a looong time, due to all the horror stories..Plus I figured I would be doomed, as my BR was around 75, and I didn't think I ground well..But actually, it went real well. He never did enough damage to put any of my unions in real trouble, and as long as you're willing to take it slow and let Cyclops take the brunt, you're golden.

I found out an easy way since I already beat the game once. train till the little oda guy learns decoy then use it in this battle it buys you alot of time.

I actually had an easy time with this douchebag. I guess I got lucky for the most part? He mainly attacked cyclops and my unions could survive his blue blazes attack but sometimes he'd just spam it. Cheap mofo with his pandemonium too.

Beat Gates of Hell at BR 28. Had 3 unions of 5 each, for 1st union I used "Vampire" 2nd and 3rd I used "Batwings". The purpose of Vampire is to not take much damage from the flanks while Rush is doing his Talisman thing. Also when all the adds are down, I didn't bother holding back at all. My 3rd union's purpose was to stand bye and heal the 1st and 2nd. My 1st and 2nd union were mainly focused on attacking Gates of Hell.
This fight is mostly based on luck, Keep trying and you will win.

Great Job, Also have a union on Standby all the time for healing, If everyone deadlocks Hell's gate. Hell blaze damages everyone for the most part

Linking is good for collecting better items from my experience. I used to think the same way about leveling too but not anymore. Now I just fight stronger monsters one-by-one and my stats along with my arts are improving at a much faster rate.
If you don't link any monsters at all, your arts and your stats will be far better.

ur not level 61, your Battle rank is 61, and thats insane
this game mechanics are a bit different
higher battle rank = Harder enemies, including bosses
what you want to do is NOT to link any enemies unlike what that stupid blocter tells u at beginning, that way u wont get BR fast but will get stats(if you face enemies ur lvl or higher), if you link too much, ur BR will be high but ur status will be crap

I have a br of about 56 and this boss is like impossible. As soon as one union dies he uses pandomium and takes over them in the same turn they die so I have no chance of reviving them. I have got him to flashing red once but that's it. I'm using 3 unions cause if I use 4 they stand no chance since his moves are so powerful. Does anyone have any tips on formations and characters to use?

I guess it's just down to luck... I took one turn then on my second turn hell gate opened... I only killed one of the monsters there. I got obliterated.

I just beat him it's half luck half good tactic. I had 3 unions. What I did is have rush's unio and another union attack the same monster. Then have another union attack another monster. Rush and union 1 should kill one monster. Next turn heal the union that got ganged then have the other union finish off the monster they where attacking. Rush summons that thingy. turn 3 Ok now it's just about mopping up the monsters. What I did was have a union set to wait and heal anyone that needs it

This is important! Have one union concentrate on clearing the monsters that rush's summon attacks! The quicker it engages hell gate the better! Then have the last union attack the other monster remaining. Ok once the monsters are defeated heal up even if it means not attacking hell gate for a round. Hell gate should concentrate on the summon anyway. Next turn have two unions attack the hell gate and one set to "hurry and heal them"

You will notice that if u keep attackng with two unions he will use a wall move on ur frst union which reduces ur morale to 0. Providing u attack with the second union the summon attacks. Your last union will flank attack and heal ur second squad. Now u will notce ur first union never gets hit because hell gate keeps using wall. Your second union can keep attacking cause ur third union keeps healing them and ur third union takes no damage whatsoever. If you can do this tactic the boss is simple.

It only did the grenade attack once and it enthralled Rush's team but i changed that quickly :) If your unions have over 1800hp you can survive a round of his attacks just be ready to heal, and try and keep one union on healing duty ofc, but if your attacking unions need to just heal, hopefully the boss will keep on the cyclops if its deadlocked with it. Well good luck to those who have yet to fight it and those who fought and lost, you will beat him.

I just beat this boss today at BR 40, wasn't as tough as i thought it was going to be. I had 3 Unions of 5, Rush/Glenys with variety, Pagus/David and Magus type, and Emmy/Baulos and Pure Melee. All my unions could heal, and revive. Beat it on first try, i was just very lucky the Boss kept attention on the Cyclops.

if you do every quest in disc 1 before fighting gates, you are almost guarnteed to succeed, look at my videos of it for example
its also somewhat based on luck, main fact is that if hes deadlocked on cyclops, it takes some of the heat off you

For those finding it laggy, upload the game to your harddrive, will make it much smoother and less buggy,
For those finding it hard, make sure you have the following,
EVERYONE WITH HEALING AND VIVCATION HERB,
this is a must or you will die end :P.
Also if your too weak simply grind at numor mines with vultures.
Just google last remnant, how to grind for help.

the worst thing is I beat this guy ages ago, went straight into another fight (yes, there are three in a row) got caned in that one something bad no matter how hard I tried and just did the ol' jrpg convention of loading an earlier save, skipping across the world leveling up and then coming back and trying again. And failing miserably. I felt cheated! I put in an extra 5-6 hrs into it and the thing whips me in six minutes. And I thought i was strong! lol. anyways, jrpg's are still so much fun!

too fucking right is this boss fight fucking ridiculous when your above battle rank 40. I just can't do it!!! The disc is in danger of getting smashed into a thousand pieces. If the japs did#t want us to finish the game why didn't they just not release the game. And I finished DMC3 (european version) and on HARD to boot. At least that game counts on skills and quickness, and not this bullshit.

My friend died so many times during this battle, he was at BR 59 or 60 when he did it. So I thought I would fail at BR 59, but no, I beat it on my first try. Took me about 10-15 turns, the most damage I took in one turn was about 1200. The union hit with that had 2700 health, and included David, Blocter, and Torgal.
