Pseudo musicologists and purists always compare white blues to black blues. To them, for basically the same reason evangelical Christians can't accept gay marriage or abortion, are too stubborn and arrogant to view music the way true music lovers do.... w/ an open mind. And as for the genius who says EC has no blues b/c he's rich obviously never bothered to listen to those very same "real" black bluesmen explain what the blues really are. Here's a hint... it's not about color or money.
These were rehearsals. If my memory serves me this was part of a documentary VH1/MTV ran about the "From The Cradle" album. It included alot of studio and rehearsal footage. It's worth seeking out, along with Scorcese's docu from the the same time period.
It's not Howlin' Wolf's song; he covered it. "44 Blues" is a blues standard whose origins have been traced back to early 1920s Louisiana. However, it was Roosevelt Sykes, who provided the lyrics and first recorded it in 1929, that helped popularize the song. Many bands/artist have covered the song over the last 80 years, H.W. is just one of them.
@TheBluescollector: You do realize you're saying the equivalent of "them blackies sure can dance (or play basketball or pick cotton or whatever)" don't you? Generalizations based on race are untrue and insulting, and show the ignorance of those making them.
@mylightningblues Look, when I wanna hear blues I don't want to see a bunch of late middle aged white guys with millions of dollars try to play the blues... it just isn't real... Do you think EC ever has to worry about havin' no money to pay his landlord? No, he owns his mansion (s), his jet, his sports car. Hardly a man who has ever lived the blues. It's as fake as Britney Spears' boobs.
@TheBluescollector easy dont comment on it! and havent you ever heard about the word "appreciation?" it isnt even real from the start its not their song, they are just paying tribute to some of their favourite artists thats just like saying i cant pick up a guitar and play anything that isnt my own song
@mylightningblues don't comment on it? I have as much of a right to comment as you do... Why are you so afraid to hear different point of view? Just think of how boring conversations would be if every one agreed. (example) :
"This is cool"
"Yea"
"I like rock"
"Me too"
I'm sorry but this may work for Beavis and Butt Head but I can't be the only person who likes conversation that is left in this world.
@mylightningblues eric clapton is pretty overrated. you must admit it. he sings the blues like a wimp. tries way too hard in my opinion. not a huge fan. i like white room, he doesn't sing it. and he plays every guitar like an acoustic. but he is very talented, yes.

I agree with @mylightningblues. I found I just couldn't listen to this after Howlin Wolf.
Clapton was trying to punch way above his weight.

lol, these guys have the whites.... real bad.
The correct way to play the beat seems to be escaping them.... they can't even hold the groove down... the reason why ?
answer, because it's a gospel beat. Most of the blues and rnb legends whitey likes to copy, learned to play in the church.

For some reason this song is out of time and space, If you listen to the original "Howlin' Wolf's" version and it''ll blow your doors off!
