  • $60.00??? thats how much I paid for the whole system

  • very true, there were books for this. hard to find books if you didn't order them off of nintendo power. plus sixty bucks is a lot for a kid to save up but me and my brother did and we were so happy!! and the stupid book was like fifteen dollars.

  • This "game" was even more worth it with the player's guide. What's a player's guide for a Mario Paint game like? It was mostly how to draw sprites of Mario characters and other popular things. And you couldn't just go on the internet to find emulators and sprite rips, so this guide was really handy.

  • @ccricers The players guide was awesome. I actually I have hours of VHS recorded Mario Paint work that I will one day import to You Tube (don't worry, nothing gross.)

  • This commercial always annoyed me because it was misleading. You couldnt even do close to that amount of animation in one scene. Regardless, I got well over my money's (parents money) worth on this title back in the day. Me and my friends always ended up making violent or dirty things on there though haha. Im actually surprised that there werent parents out there protesting this game due to the fact that most kids were making such types of animations.

  • what about the boats?

  • AND Wii. This Paint MUST Be At The Wii Virtual Console!

  • I paid 49.99 for Zelda Link to the Past

  • SIXTY DOLLARS!!! ITS MORE IF WAIT IN 2006

  • :') this game was my favorite back then. I was so addicted... Back then, when games were actually worth playing; not like now, when its all about first person shooters and murder. I don't see how can people buy 10 different games, when they are all technically the same sh*t. Mario Paint, Mario RPG, Earthbound, Yoshi Story, Zelda Ocarina of time & Link to the past, Kablooey; now THOSE were games...

  • @LourdesAlexandria you..you liked earthbound.god bless you kind sir...god bless you

  • FreakOtaku: Old video game commercials ftw

  • 60$... i others times, you paid 60 you got a game and a peripherical... now? just the game... wnat the peripherical? 150$ more...

  • No ones gonna waste 60 bucks on a game you can just DOWNLOAD on your CPU

i mean its gonna be like, i don't know...AN EXTRA 60 BUCKS CUZ THE GAMES OLD

And to the people who DON'T have a SNES its like 150 or MORE

  • Nice teeth.

  • I dont think the length of the animations and music are that long in the game it self.

  • Hey! I think he just woke up to a hangover!

  • @IAmClearlyTheBest just buy a cheap snes off ebay or somewhere and the cheap game, i doubt it would be on virtual console 'cos u need a mouse

  • 0:00 - 0:23

saying that out of context you would seam like the worlds biggest stoner

  • o_o

  • 60.00 FOR THAT!?

  • @ice0cream0bunny4321 According to the Inflation Calculator (google it) "What cost $60 in 1992 would cost $90.61 in 2009."

  • @CrazyHorseInvincible o___o oh gosh

  • That kid must be you lol.

  • I am 14 and I wish that like the NES and stuff were like still around today. Those were real video games, no matter how shitty the graphics were.

  • There is a nice, organic "fluh" sound when he says flowers... Man, this guy's voice is so flavorous.

  • he said 'wrote' not 'made' unnecessary quotes.

  • its only 60 bucks!

  • i wish this was on the wii!!!!=D

  • someone was on drugs when this was made...

  • Mario Paint... one of my childhood

small addictions before Pokémon even existed.

I borrowed it from my cousin way to many years ago,and I still have it. He knows I have it so there is no problem. (I can see the box from where I'm right now)

I have no artistic touch, so I wasn't good creating things, but in that time I bought a magazine where they put some songs from video games and a Birthday's Song.

Mm... maybe I should play it again just for some fun...

  • @Angelxtreme1985 pokemo was around b4 this , this is 92 pokemon red/blue/yellow were 89

  • @iIamITheIMaster Pokemon Red/Green version are from 1996 in Japan, and the Red/Blue versions are from 1998 in America.

  • i remember this commercial would play 3 or 4 times a day on after school cartoons

  • "Hey, I just wrote a song!"

What?! I thought you were hallucinating!

  • eu tenho mario paint

  • awesome! i wonder if mine still works... i used the mouse cleaner it came with to clean my ball mouses for as long as i owned ball mouses. Hard plastic mousepad was one of the best mouse pads for a long time too... man i loved this game.

  • In Mario Paint, you could make 1978857121479410000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 different pictures on 1 paint?

  • @alienmasterfrich

HMM where did I hear that before? In the AVGN's NINTENDO POWER REVIEW?

  • You know, I could have sworn I remembered a different commercial for this game way back when. For some reason, I have the distinct feeling that it involved the dissolve/bomb erase function. Cool stuff regardless. Thanks for sharing Tom.

  • That's what Nintendo is best at, making "kiddie games" as you call them. Games that everyone can enjoy and not just a bunch of blood and violence and drugs and crap. It's nice to be able to play a family game once in a while.

  • 60 Dollars!?!

    Then again, SO worth it...

  • lol 60 dollars for Mw2 and 60 dollars for mario paint

  • It sucked.

  • nintendo is always ontop of everything!!

  • wow 60 bucks?? thats how much games are nowadays!

  • they weren't all that cheap.. and this "game" rocked btw!! I had so much fun playing with it with friends and composing tunes.. i guess you had to like making music.

and the most I ever paid for a game in my life I think was a SNES game, it was Final Fantasy 2 (us) and I paid 105$ CAD

  • dont forget the flyswatter game lol

  • SNES 4 life. :P

  • I had this... It was a piece...

  • of ass?

  • Im so proud that i got this on real Snes :D

  • TomBobBlender laughs at this kiddo, and what he calls a "song" on Mario Paint.

  • america has it too.i never knew.i am in japan and i never knew they had much of all are games!america must be recieving good stuff.i hope they love it.i just hope!

i wonder what it is like in there

  • lol

    Video Sequences edited for television

  • 0:10 Video Sequences Edited For Television XD

  • thats awesome

  • "hey i think i made a song" no you dont think, you DID did retard

  • Wow back then 60 bucks was like 20 bucks today some one puts 60 on a floor today a lot of people will die

  • u mean 20 today is like 60 back then right?

  • Umm.........YEAH!!

  • I have the original. It was one of my favorites growing up. I can't believe it was $60! That mouse was a piece of crap.

I could never write songs. That's a bunch of BS. But it was fun coloring and stuff. :)

  • eh?

  • $59.95!?

  • came with a mouse, wheee :)

  • Mario Paint was my teacher for drawing with a mouse. Thanks to that game I can make pixel art now..

One of my favorite SNES games, and I still have the mouse and the pad!!

However, you could use the SNES controller. There was a cheat where you used the controller on the 2nd player and, after pressing some buttons (can't remember which ones, sorry), the game started and the picture and song you had saved were showing on the screen.

I never saw the comercial before, so thanks for sharing =)

  • lol i had this game on NES :D idk why they only put the music stuff on commercial instead of painting :P I mean its mario paint cmon!!!

  • SNES*?

  • where did you download the game from?

  • You don't download, you buy it...

    ON SNES

  • You can also download it!

  • Yeah a fake version, you could download a ROM of Mario Paint, or Mario Paint Composer, the original Mario Paint, the official one, was only released on Super Nintendo

  • i got a rom of it and play it on ma wii (snes emulator)(homebrew channel)

  • it's hard to draw with your Wiiremote!

  • SIXTY DOLLARS?!?!?!?!!?

  • thats nothing some games wer 70-80 bucks on the snes like the arcade to console games.

  • holy shit

  • yeah and remember the pod racer game? it was freaking 120 bucks new!!!

  • @DifferantProd It actually would cost more today due to inflation.

  • @DifferantProd snes sold seproritely!?

  • @DifferantProd Nearly all games cost $50, but this came with a mouse and mouse pad, so $60 makes perfect sense.

  • :23 lolololololololol

  • HEY I JUST WROTE A SONG! lolol

  • OMG I HAVE THAT GAME! But no mouse no wonder it didn't work.

  • Comment removed

  • There's a whole realm of drug jokes possible from this commercial. Thanks Nintendo!

  • Trippy.

  • nice, haven't seen that in ages. I still have mario paint. oh and you could use the mouse in a couple of other games like Vegas stakes. love the old games. I hate it when people say, "that game is crap" because of the graphics. I say the graphics will always change, but the gameplay is what makes a game great. That's why I love earthbound too :D

  • i am glad at least ONE person agrees that graphix arnt everything. when ever people are discussing the best video game system, i always say the NES. they say that the graphix suck. i say the games were great, but they just say the graphixs sucked. cant people understand that graphix dont, never have, never will, and never should matter?

  • Exactly! It really ticks me off when people compare a great game like "Final Fantasy VI" to a newer game with better graphics like "Final Fantasy XIII!" It isn't graphics or the age of games that makes me enjoy classics. It is really gameplay, characters, music, and a PERFECT storyline that really makes me enjoy classics!

Sorry for the extremely long reply.

  • u know what i like about games? GAMEplay. hardly anyone has a wii. why? because of the graphixs.

  • Seeing as Wii has sold more units than the 360 and PS3 combined, I'd say the people who own them are just more content with their systems and don't have to go to the internet to complain

  • well, i dont complane about mi wii, because of 2 words:dead rising.

  • ...hardly anyone has a wii? lul. That's like saying there are hardly any grains of sand on the beach.

  • well, around were i live. everyone has a crappy x-box.

  • i do have to say that the xbox is the most aggravating system i own because out of the years of nintendo systems i own, NONE of them needed to be sent in for repair and still all work. even the atari. my 360 was the only one i had to have repaired because of the red ring. i still like it though, games are fairly good

  • Comment removed

  • omg you got that right >_>

  • just for the record, i have one

  • my only real complaint about the Wii, and yes i have one, is that they make too many kiddie games. I absolutely loved Twilight princess, but it seems like they make a bazillion little kiddie games, then a decent one every 6 months.

  • So many kiddie games...

  • Mario Paint II GX Wii would be great.

The fly swatting game.. would be epic on the Wii.

  • I agree, Get on that Nintendo!!

  • This game is AWESOME. I still play it to this day. I think i'll go play it now...

  • Awesome!! But that is the ugliest kid ive seen on TV for a while rofl...

  • lol Mario Paint is legendary, they should bring it out again for the Wii

  • holy shit. 60 bucks for a nes game? I love it but holy shit dude.

  • it was snes, and it was that expensive because it came with a mouse thing.=)

  • I remember this game, I used to own it back in the day....what nostalgia....wish Nintendo would release a new version of the "game"

  • Yeah, Mario Paint was an awesome game. Even though I still was a child when it was released, there were two things I always kept in mind: a) The mouse b) the fly swatting game. And years later, when everyone already had DSL internet I rediscovered the game on the internet. However, by that time I had forgotten about most of it's features. Of course as a child I didn't know how great the game really was, either.

  • awesome game

  • $59.95. Haha holy shit. I remember when SNES games cost that.

    This commercial brings back memories.

  • after the stars told me to kill my parents i knew i was on 1-up shrooms

  • the good old times when the commercials didnt make sense.

  • Have you watched commercials recently? Talk about not making sense.

    PSP Squirrels.

    Nuff said.

  • o.O

  • Cool ad. Makes me think how much I've come to hate Mario Paint Composer now that everyone's using soundfonts, totally defeating the object of calling it Mario Paint Composer :/ It's supposed to be all about getting around the limitations of what few sounds you have available and still making it sound good. Grraahhh!

(And yes I know you and I would never agree on whether it should have flats and sharps, but... meh.)

  • Yeah, I'll vouch that I didn't start Mario Paint compositions until I saw your videos on here. You definitely inspired a generation, man.

Keep doin' what you're doin'. You're kicking ass all over.

  • I highly doubt there is a correlation between teeth and sexual preference.

  • @funnystuff66613 He's southern, what the fuck do you expect?!

  • If not my favorite snes program/game to play!!!

  • I wish MPC were that easy. Just start imagining the symbols, go crazy, and boom -- Hey, I think I just wrote a song.

That or get high. That'd probably have the same result.

  • Dude, this takes me back. :D I got so much playtime out of my copy of Mario Paint, that I wore the mouse out.

  • agreed with lampdevil

mouse needed to be more durable

  • Yeah, well I had to get a new mouse because my dog chewed it up a long time ago.

I am happy again as of today.

  • Well it came with the SNES mouse... $60 isnt so bad, even for then.

  • Geez louise, all these people complaining about paying $60 for a game then, you'll all be saying the same thing about your Halo 3s and Street Fighter IV's in 10 more years too.

  • And Action 52, And cheetah men II, Super mario world.. I grew up with the SNES/PS1, but want me to say more?

  • 60$? Oh this is bad!

  • mario paint is awesome!

i might make another song soon...

  • I remember that shit lol Gawd. 60$ for that back then. I would kick myself for buying that game for that much money. I would kick myself for almost every game on the snes if I payed 60$ for it. Only things worth paying that much for are like Chrono Trigger, FF3 and Earthbound.

  • What about Super Metroid? I'd pay 60 bucks for that! =P

  • and a link to the past.... and street fighter 2...... and super mario kart...... and doom........and F-zero

  • I said "like". I didn't plan to mention all the good ones.

  • Earthbound! Hellz yeah!

  • Nintendo really should remake Mario Paint for the DS.

  • agreed

  • you sir are fucking brilliant! brilliant!

  • I'd totally buy it :D

  • What year this video ? Oo

  • i reamember this lol

  • Ya know, I'd love it if someone could remake that tune in Mario Paint. It's entirely possible, I'm just too lazy to try it.

Anyway, I remember this commercial! I also remember when I first got Mario Paint. I do believe it helped me on my way to being an S3M, then MIDI composer as well as sprite/pixel artist. Ah, man... Good times. Good times... Anyone remember the Mario Paint Player's Guide? Heh heh.

  • yea FFII (FFIV) cost 79.99 on snes. they released FFIII (VI) for 59.99 in october of 1994

  • wow, loved reading the description man, nice memory.

  • No it isn't a PC game. Was it made for PC? No. Was it entended to used on PCs? No. So it's a SNES game.

  • you're being technical, I'm being realistic.

Of course it's really not a PC game, that wasn't my point.

My point is now we can play it on PC.

Lets hope you never take law, you'd struggle pretty bad in that field.

  • I understood your point completely as you just said it in that sentence. The point is you can't say it is a PC game even if it is playable on PC.

  • This commercial lives up to the mighty game itself! There is no version besides the Super Nintendo version.

  • But its illegal you know...

  • The Super Nintendo one was the only legal one.

  • own it, love it.

  • I'm one the lucky ones who played it back then, and it cost me nothing since I borrowed it from a friend :)

  • I actually have this game for the SNES....It's a lot of fun. That's an interesting commercial there. Where did you find it, Tom?

  • $60? That's crazy for a SNES game.

  • it's likely because it came with the SNES Mouse if i remember correctly. Since you couldn't play Mario Paint without it, it'd make sense Nintendo would package the mouse with the game ment to use it.

  • dude, chrono trigger cost like $80 when it first came out. cartridges were expensive back then!

  • cartridges are still expensive, actually, at least if they were still real cartridges instead of mini flash drives like the DS games are now, they're just more expensive to mass produce. But I miss those games, back when they can take a beating and a half, sure CD's are tough but wouldn't even get close to surviving half the hell my family gave our old SEGA Genesis games, no load times, and with today's technology they would hold as much as a DVD now easy. Cartridge>CD in my opinion.

  • yea I wish cartridges would make a comeback

  • Holy crap I remember this commercial O_O

  • Gnat attack is crazy addicting

  • $60?????

  • Hey I think I just wrote a song!

  • tombob i know that game is a snes game but theres a composer like that that alows you to download songs and upload you creations. this is sort of the same composer and mario paint but for computers. i seen this game at a garage sale once but i didn't see the mouse. great video 5/5 stars!!!

  • DAMN!

    $59.95

    lol

  • $60 was a shitload of money back then too

  • Who on their right mind think that the PC version came first!? Retards, that's who...

  • That's an awesome story Tom. :D

  • nice

  • I have the mouse and game, its difficult but it brings back memories

  • haha cool

  • $60 seemed like alot of money back then when I was younger. My friend was the only one on the block with it.

    Good times.

  • Those were the good days :]

  • I personally loved that fly-swatting game.

  • Looks like a good commercial. =)

I wonder how popular Mario Paint was back then?

  • wow! i like it!

  • $59.95

But I guess that's what people 20 years in the future will be saying about our games.

  • Ah, nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

  • This is such a great commercial.
