I also had nocturnal panic attacks but it turned out to be thyroditis. (Also heart palpitations, hair loss and sudden unexplained weight gain.) TSH testing wasn't enough...a test for thyroid antibodies would have pin pointed the cause. Once I had thyroid medication, the attacks completely stopped.
