  • viz comic did their own, with roger mellie ;-)

  • This has great memories for me. I started my apprentiship in Radio and TV in 1970. Test card F would would always greet you with a smile on entering the workshop.

I even have this as my desktop wallpaper.

  • Is naughts and crosses the same thing as tic-tac-toe?

  • @IwillKillYourCereal i believe so yes

  • @hulk239239 okay, thanks :)

  • i grew up with you, carole !.. just thought you should know that!

  • She had an enigmatic smile, not unlike the Mona Lisa. I think that's what attracted a lot of people. Spectulating on exactly what it was she was thinking at the time this historic photo was taken. She, most likely, was a bit fed up/tired of having to sit there whilst the lighting, (and everything else involved with taking a, 'proper', photograph), was sorted out. I wonder how many shots were taken, or whether this was the only one? Bubbles has lasted well.

  • What is the music?

  • @twillaleebone I forget the title, but I have it on CD. Will let you know asap.

  • @twillaleebone Television and Beat-In

  • @Gu1tar1st - I used to wait until the lounge was deserted and then proceed to kiss her monochrome image. My Dad caught me once and took the p!*ss...

When we got a colour TV - I wrote to the BBC - asking for her hand in marriage.

    I never got a reply,

If you see this Carole... I too think you are rather splendid!

  • I was born in 1968, and I remember her so well, as I used to look at her picture on the testcard when I was about 7 or 8, and I found her madly attractive! Feels a bit strange, as I'm 42 now, and still think she's beautiful!

  • The one on the right aint changed one bit in all that time.. so who won the game in the end.. ever thought of having a rematch?!

  • I was at school with Carole. Nice girl. Often wondered what she'd ended up doing. We'd had a couple of reunions over the years, but she never featured.

  • That's a nice comment.

    Thank you.

  • My gran used to live in the same street as her father George Hersee. When we visited her, sometimes we would see George out and about.

He always had a hangdog expression on his face, but he was such a lovely man.

    R.I.P. George.

  • I've seen a very recent photo of her on Wiki from last month, she looks well.

  • i know the offspring of this woman irl!!!!

  • i know the son of this women he is a rat

  • i used to love waking up as a kid and watching it til i went to back to sleep and as a kid in late 80's i thought shes well hot

  • I must be a little older than you becasue I remember this from the 70's (as well as the 80's).

Carole Hersee had a bit of an influnence on sexuality issues (not that I ever had any) - because I used to kiss her image on the monochrome screen when no one was looking!

Quite apart ffom that, I had a crush on most of my lady teachers (the pretty ones!) - not that there were too many pretty ones around (I live in Wales!).

    HA!

  • that's wrong man.

  • she didnt grow up to be hot then? oh well..

  • I think it is the same clown it's cause it's a front on pic

  • LOL they kept the doll!?

(I bet that doll wasn't the real clown doll. I bet they made another one just like it.)

  • shock

  • She said in a interview that she still has the clown.

  • of course she kept the doll.. it's iconic.. and worth a flippin fortune.. bet she turns up on the antiques road show in hhmm 20 years.. lol

  • Noughts and Crosses to us Americans are known as Tic-Tac-Toe.

  • I like the music. It sound 60s/70s in a very British way.

  • Red lorry yellow lorry red wire yellow wire..

  • Life on Mars was great!

  • Finally someone gets it!

  • ya been collecting the life on mars dvd's? didn't think much of the second one.. I almost bought the box set of em.. glad I didn't .. £8 or so .. news of the world.. even though I can't stand the paper.. it's worth it for that n the tv guide

  • I wondered how long it would be before someone rubbed it in, not long...

  • ah well borg.. some ya win .. some ya lose. I was tempted to buy it ages ago, but they wanted way too much for it. besides there's extra's on the box dvd also?

  • I see the doll hasnt changed much.

  • i think bubbles looks like he's lost weight - or maybe thats the difference between a wide angle and telephoto lens

  • Wow. A text interview on a video channel

  • ... and there's me thinking that this was highly apropriate, considering that test cards were, themselves, inanimate displays.

That was the thinking - perhaps my artistic licence is no longer valid.

Apologies if I have managed to disapoint?

  • It was only meant for the BBC but I wonder if they expected it to be used all over the world at the time?

  • That has to be a "mock up" Bubbles - it looks to deflated & new.

  • Real Carole - Real Bubbles.

    Sorry.

  • Year well there's 40 years between those 2 pics. Bubbles has proably faded slightly and Carol will be 50 this year

  • I think it's great that bubbles is still alive and well, albeit in a box.

  • Great interview!

  • How did you try to reproduce the tuning signal?

  • I worked in a IBA studio. I still have access to a sound mixer desk. Simply place the mixer console onto the tuning signal and create a digital file onto a floppy disk - Robert is one's Uncle. I found a few downloadable ones on the Net too.

  • You can also download a program called "NCH Tone Generator".

  • pues ahora es mas fea la tiparraca esta...

  • Well, L100,-.Wasn´t it lots of money in late 1967?What could you afford for L100 in 1967?

    I suppose more than nowdays.

  • Aww, Bubbles looks cute and he certainly has lost some weight in the past 40 years!

  • Shame; the same can't be said of me! Drat!

  • LOL

  • intresting she reminds me of she still looks pretty good for 48 !

  • She looks amazing! Thanks for your comment!

  • Hey, thanks for posting your video. Good interview. I did have a question about Carole, though.

Would she still accept fan mail? I'd love to get an autographed Test Card F photo (if she wouldn't mind signing one, that is). I love Test Cards and other test patterns.

Is there an address where I can write to her? Or do I write to the BBC? (I live in the USA).

  • I think you may have to write to the BBC.

Check out my YouTube pofile for more test card videos - various.

    Thanks.
