Anyway I agree with Penn, I can't stand grammatical errors either. Although it's the sign of a truly great song when it can grammatically suck and still be extremely successful. Although most people don't care about grammar, and a few don't even care about the lyrics either.
'IF THIS EVER-CHANGIN' WORLD IN WHICH WE'RE LIVIN' "
i.e. "IF this ever-changing world IN which we are LIVING". Get it?
So, the grammar is perfectly correct. I'm a language nerd. I heard that way back when te sng was new and figured out what he sang by listening closely.
One time I heard Tom Leykis make the same BULLSHIT claim that you made.
@12Zwolf it's a run on people who see homosexual gestures in everything and are afraid of being called homosexual. You do know he's happily married and has the best named kids, right?
; Yes, and living in the compound in Las Vegas, but I've noticed how people now say man-crush, and woman-crush instead of only appreciating the contributions of the artist. As I'm not an artist, I appreciate good art-work, and that appreciation isn't confused with erotic feelings.
McCartney, even at his age, is a genuine rocker. He kicks all kinds if ass.
But Lennon's main complaint about Paul was his linguistic laziness. And he had a point -- not a complete point, fuck off, Paul wrote "Eleanor Rigby" and "Penny Lane."
But Paul also wrote shit like "I go to places we used to go," which Lennon vetoed & Paul sold to Peter & Gordon. Paul could get lazy, yes he could. But he's almost 70 and he still rocks harder than you, pallie.
Personally I hold a greater opinion of you than either of those two so you can talk all the shit you want sir, you won't hear a peep from me about it.
i sometimes read between the lines with Penn basically saying, " some of you out there have got to be mindnumbinly idiotic if a moron like me gets it and you don't"
@The64BitGeek People who think that more recent music has nothing to offer, are indeed fuckwits... as are people who think the same about older music.
@RT83 And why should I like music that was made before I was born? Old dudes and dudettes are still alive aren't they? A friend of my dads is stuck in the 60's. The way he talks, clothes, hair style, music. He is a sad sad character.
@The64BitGeek "And why should I like music that was made before I was born?"
I dunno. Maybe because some of it's good? :p
"A friend of my dads is stuck in the 60's. The way he talks, clothes, hair style, music. He is a sad sad character."
I know. People doing things that they enjoy is just sooooooooo sad. :p
If you simply don't like the Beatles, then fine. But excluding older music just because you think it makes you out-of-date, doesn't make you superior. It just makes you a wanker.
Ike wasn't a scientologist, he was a victim of scientology. the guy barely made it past "clear", and trying to get further is what killed him. he was trying to cleanse himself of "body thetans."
You used the music from Trine, the video game, for this video. No real opinion on it's usage, just an observation of your choice (which is cool) of the game's main theme for this video.
....so, .....I guess I can't really say 'no opinion', since I just called it cool.
Penn Jillette's name will be far more recognised than Isaac Hayes in the future. Love your work Penn, taking a brave, active stand against the religion. Your work is far more important than Isaac Hayes, (whose 'soul' we can safely assume is on some alien spaceship now) and I hope one day that your name is associated with reason as much as Paul McCartney's name is with the peace movement.
These are song lyrics, not a letter to congress. They're written that way because they sound good within the context of the song. Find something more important to bitch about, Penn.
I think grammar can be overanylized. I used to strive for perfect grammar (my mother was a secretary, and kind of a grammer-nazi), but as I got older, I realized I was basically talking like a robot. So I re-trained myself to be okay with splitting infinitives or ending sentences with prepositions, so my speech would flow more naturally. I think that in songs and poetry, it's even more important to suspend the rules of grammar, because the rhythm is so important.
I think you are way over analyzing song lyrics. Get a better hobby than eating shit off of shoes. A lot of times. Especially during live performances. A musician just gets lazy. Like a drummer switching to a half beat just because he can. McCartney was far more talented than Lennon.
@Superphilipp Oh LOL I guess it's just more of an opinion of mine than a provable fact. I just liked McCartney's music better. I thought Lennon was arrogant and pushy. Especially since he insisted on being named first on the Beatles songs. I'm not a big Beatles fan. They had some good ones. But, after the Beatles I liked McCartney's songs better
There are many reasons. Perhaps a song writer writes a song and does not think much about it, then bam its a hit and they are not happy with all the words or maybe as time goes by they think up something they feel is better. Maybe a rocker just forgets the original words and puts in new ones. And some times the establishment pushes for change to them and the artist obeys.
Penn - I'm heading your way in July. Other than your show at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, what show should I just not even THINK of missing?
I always took the "but" in Shaft to be the implication that the world at large (excluding "his woman" solely) does not see Shaft to be the complex figure that the song proclaims him to be.
@chadd990 lmao ill like it but doubt it will get you pussy you need charisma, goodlooks, or a great sense of humour to get that well lots of money helps lol if the other elude you ;-)
yeah, if it makes you happy, it got mad. I'll let you feel victorious and laugh and giggle it up over there in wonderland, while I'll be over here back in reality where I'm not mad, and you're just making shit up to make yourself look better.
Dude, love the show. But being diagnosed OCD, i cant stand u going back and forth on cameras every 10 ticks. Hold it to 20 or 30 ticks before moving to the other camera
It's still better than those rap and R&B singers. I hate it when they say "they/you was", "they/you is", and in the words of Biggie Smalls, "Here I is".
Would it just be Teller, stood in a room making hand gestures and facial expressions, and we would have to judge his opinions solely on the title of the clip?
I would pay for that vlog...
Back to this Penn Point, though. I agree 100%. It's like double negatives. Very annoying.
Why is pen such a bitch about song lyrics...don't leave any room for creative license and certainly you don't want to just sit and listen to the song and Let it Be!
@philipviele You should stop leaving you house because you might see ads walking down the street. Also dont turn on any electronic device or even read anything because you might see an ad. Dont live, you might see an ad,
@puklop you should stop leaving your house because you might hear people saying things you disagree with. also don't turn on any electronic device because you might see Youtube comments saying things you disagree with. and don't read anything because they might say something you disagree with. also don't live there is most likely a lot of comments in the world you will disagree with.
@SCRulerShinoda in your opinion those must be contradictory, but somehow related observations. What does being a good songwriter have to do with Scientology?
Hej Penn, if you think that is bad? Just rewatch the new versions of the Star Wars OLD trilogy in new DVD release.
