I love Clouds Taste Metallic, it's become one of my favorite albums ever... but bands evolve and their sound changes. It happens with all great bands, and you've got to accept it and move on, otherwise you aren't really a fan of the band, just the specific album :)
It's a shame, Mr. Coyne himself said today's FLips fans wouldn't be interested in hearing their older, rougher songs, which is false. I started out with Yoshimi, loved it, then went searching for their older albums and came to love them that much more.
@WRECKEDEMWRECKORDS I think that is [partially true. However I did not discover the Lips till I hit the ripe old age of 45. Since then I have gone back and gotten all their older records. I went to see them in Bloomington this year. I was suprised how many new fans were there. So I think newer fans are displacing the older ones in the sense of album sales
@myway43 very true. they are more popular than ever, but when a band becomes more popular they generally start sucking. more times than not. i can name sooo many bands. Smashing Pumpkins being one. Soundgarden another. Flaming Lips have turned into a bunch of sappy shits. Sad but true.
@CandyCaner Well he's just being honest and accounting for the fact that most of the new mainstream FL fans are just along for the bandwagon affect at this point.... Not defining what a real FL fan is, just saying he makes a very valid point of the typical music listener!

@CandyCaner
It's a shame soooo many FLIPS fans from back in the day quit buying their cd's about 10 years ago. Its a shame how they have devolved.
