My chickens dug this up & it didn't get sufficient light. I did another one in the same manner, where the chickens could not reach it, and the lighting was better. This produced good results.
To answer questions/comments: No, the compost hadn't cured, I intended to let it finish in place. My fence didn't rot, but thanks for the tip. I didn't have anyone else to video other than the children, thus children videotaping. The cereal rye went well & seem to have broken up the ground well.
I love the video and the fact that your kids were doing some of the work what a great way to encourage your little ones to eat healthy! so did the lasagna garden work for you or not yet, hows it going?
Wonderful video. Having your children participate and do some of the video-ing added a really special touch! Thank you for sharing and hope you'll produce something on your (now) mature lasagna beds soon.
Nice video, but would of been better if it was you filming or a friend. The kids are cute, but took away from people, myself, wanting to watch all of it.
The compost you added was not ready to be added. When ready, compost does not smell bad, and looks like earth.
By the way - you are going to rot the bottom of your fence too.
I like what the video was about, and would of liked to see how it turned out.:
Okay, so year 2 went very well. My chickens didn't get a chance to dig it up this time, so I ended up with a nice harvest of rye, and have some healthy looking potatoes there now that will hopefully produce some nice potatoes- haven't dug them up yet. Good news, I have a video camera again,s o I'll be posting some more soon. Next video: winter gardening! :)
What a great Mom you are. That is what children of today needs. Mothers who do things with their children and give them attention. Did you all notice those children were doing what they were told and not throwing fits. Neither did my 5 children when they were little. GOD bless you sister and keep up the good work with those kids. Your video really blessed my heart.
Sorry I didn't post how it went. My camera broke in the spring, and I've yet to replace it. Here's how it went. That section of garden did okay, not great. I used the same materials and technique on a garden in the front yard that got more sun, and it went really well. LOTS of tomatoes- completely toppled my supports. Currently I have cereal rye planted in that section as a cover crop, so we'll see how that goes.
ha! but I'm logged in on my husband's account... lol...

After you build the bed, do you just plant the plants in the bed you just built or do you need to dig down to the ground?
