Santa Esmeralda is a U.S./French Disco group formed in the 1970s; perhaps best known for their hit Disco remakes of the 1960s hits Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood & House of the Rising Sun. The group featured singer Leroy Gómez from 1977 till 1978 & singer Jimmy Goings from 1978 until 1983 when the group disbanded. Leroy Gómez is a singer and songwriter best known for his work with Santa Esmeralda. Leroy Gómez was born in Wareham, Massachusetts of Cape Verdean descent.

Well, it seems everyone has the same voice in Cape Verde, then. The Tavares singer I mean is the one who sings the lead on More than a Woman and Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel, namely Chubby (Antone Lee Tavares) - according to my quick research matching live videos of both songs and still pictures with names in the captions.

I know the song was written for Nina Simone.It says so in Wikipedia. I simple said " I heard The Animals Version a lot. But don't remember heading the Nina Simone version."I have already been corrected about it being written for the Animals. So whats with the "no it was not!" ? I stand corrected. I've also become aware that Eric Burdon didn't write it. I'm 65 so I've been around long enough to have heard both versions. I don't remember ever hearing Nina's version Which tell me that the Animals had the more popular version. So in that sense you could say it was "their" song

@fideluna This is not a Nina Simone song. She simply did a cover like this version. The song was by Eric Burdon and the Animals circa: mid to late 60s I think Eric Burdon wrote it but not sure. It is not a protest song. It's simply a a boyfriend talking to his girlfriend ,or perhaps a husband talking to his Wife..

...all versions are good... but I like this version the best because of it's music...fantastic video too!.like dancing by pretty ladies...his style of dressing is awesome(but don't like his facial expression at 1:23 to 25)... it's a high energy song and his voice doesn't match up with music!!.to me his voice sounds as if he is standing 10 feet away from microphone!!!..If someone should make this song again that would be Ricky Martin.....His voice is best suited for this song!(personal opinion:)
