  • full metal jacket is also one of the greatest films about the war

  • bfbc2 vietnam track FTW

  • If you really want to learn about the Vietnam War through good film...Watch The Most Dangerous Man in American, or Fog of War: 11 Lessons From The Life of Robert S. McNamara

  • I dont get how apocalypse now is rated the best Vietnam movie, it's not so much about the war as it about Brando loosing his mind, surely platoon or full metal jacket are better because they more directly about the war?

  • The Deer Hunter and Born on The Fourth of July is the only REAL war movies

they try to give people the bad side of war

not like Saving Private Ryan, that is like 100% propaganda

  • Shit war movies kill, Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, The Deer Hunter, Platoon, and now Born on the fourth of july, I have yet to see this War Film but if Platoon by the Great Oliver stone proves anything is that Brave Film Genuis can sure create a gem of a Film,

  • this was the movie that made me a Tom Cruise fan for sure.

  • @rossroad Its Bob dylan's song

  • For What its worth from Buffalo Springfield. Cheers !

  • whats the song at 1:10

  • @rossroad100 Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth -Smother Bros

  • Smart people dodged the draft. No chance of Bush ,Cheney etc getting their brains blown out. Thanks to the Bush twins for serving in the middle east ! LOL.RICH MAN'S WAR, POOR MAN'S NIGHTMARE.

  • They call me traiter cause I don't stand up for the flag anymore they call me a coward cause I leave the room when the military recruits come to visit they tell me if everyone thought like me this country would be taken over well let's see if everyone thought like me there wouldn't be any figthing the reason I refuse to stand is cause I look past all the words as for the recruits they tell ya they'll pay your college but money can't take away the memories and I think I've had enough scars

  • amazing movie

  • happy veterans day, my humble respects go out to ron kovic and oliver stone for both their services in vietnam and r.i.p to the fallen

  • what a movie. Oliver Stone is an outstanding director. This film will make you feel sooo sad though.

  • It surprises me that paralysis from bullet wounds is non-fatal.

  • anyone can tell me what's the song played at 1:20?

  • @hkwaynewing buffalo springfield: for what it's worth

  • @hkwaynewing Stop Children What's That Sound by Buffalo Springfield.

  • @Arkady231 That is a lyric but the actual song title is "For What it's Worth"

  • @Hurqq Thanks!!

  • I was born on the 4 of july too

  • one word... Ooh-Rah.

  • everyone young woman or man should watch this before the join the military

  • @davidallenroth i think you have the message all wrong...Oliver Stone's message was how wrong the Vietnam war was in the first place. How young boys like Ron Kovic were set out on serving their country were decieved and lied to, as was the general public. It's not an anti-military movie, it's an anti-war movie.

  • @getlikemc

    that my point as well

  • @davidallenroth Actually,everybody should watch,not only recruits.

  • and you still dont get it.... FUCKED UP AMERICA!!!

  • @MrRucknroll holy shit bro move the fuck on what would you have gained if america won? a few hundred thousand more dead people and a win for america well hip hip fucking hurray retard

  • @MrRucknroll Nice trolling there Sir. A little pointer: How about you try to avoid "would of" and "must of" in the future and instead use "would have" and "must have". It's a dead giveaway. ;)

  • 8 days before Ron's birthday. And as a proud Filipino, now I know that the movie was shot here in the Philippines in 1988.

  • but you aint got no legs luitenant dan!

this movie made me an anti-war guy, i was about to join the compulsive militar service at that time in my country when i saw this movie at the theatre. It also convinced me of quitting the idea of getting myself a big motorcycle.... gosh the idea of one day waking up without a willie...... jesus that must be hard....

  • Best Male Acting Performances of the 1980's: 1. Robert De Niro, Raging Bull (1980) 2. Daniel Day-Lewis, My Left Foot (1989) 3. Dustin Hoffman, Rain Man (1988) 4. Ben Kingsley, Gandhi (1982) 5. Al Pacino, Scarface (1983) 6. John Hurt, The Elephant Man (1980) 7. Dennis Hopper, Blue Velvet (1986) 8. Denzel Washington, Glory (1989) 9. Tom Cruise, Born on the Fourth of July (1989) 10. Robert Downey Jr., Less Than Zero (1987)
  • @cinemapsycho91 Tom Cruise should've won the Oscar

  • @kashaud17 Not quite. I mean, Daniel Day-Lewis was just breathtaking in My Left Foot. His work in My Left Foot is not only a performance, but is an experience. I will also say that Tom Cruise completely and utterly outdid himself in Born on the Fourth of July. He did win the Golden Globe, and a lot of people thought he was gonna win. If anything, he was definitely the second choice to win the Oscar.

  • Just saw the movie and recognized a shipmate I use to be stationed with. The marine sgt who the recruiter.

  • Without a doubt, Tom Cruise's best performances.

  • born on the 4th of july.

  • @SuperHombre6969 me too!

  • i want to say i respect our soldiers and i support our soldiers BUT i hate this government and i hate the fuckin bullshit lies they feed us daily i think we the people need to take back the white house and rid of all the trash that is in there

  • Serve your country? How the FUCK does killing random asains serve your country?

  • @festus626 Noone wanted Communism to spread, turns out fighting a war against a guerella force would prove useless

  • "Dulce bellum inexpertise." - War is sweet to those who have not fought it.

  • Only those want to fight, who havent seen the real war.... Only the dead have seen it.

  • @m1grand70-----today's paper had a really sad article then----saying Iran getting too involved with Iraqi politics-------(but things can change and I certainly hope they do)--------I know our armed forces are pushing Taliban out of Kandahar for sure though according to last night's news bulletins-----

  • Great movie, very difficult to watch. A masterpiece! It was Tom Cruise's finest role and Oliver Stone's finest hour!

  • what is the song in the trailer?

  • Comment removed

  • @fnbuy "For What It's Worth" performed by Buffalo Springfield 1966

  • thanks its a great song

  • At the parade when the soldiers salute Ronnie makes this clip. It's the 1,000 yard stare, don't have to say anything, they just know....

  • @23ciccio23 the song's called "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield. The score's by John "Genius" Willimas

  • PENIS

    BIG FUCKING ERECT PENIS

  • @roboneko77 HAhahaha! Most memorable line in the movie! I wish it was my ringtone!!

  • tom cruise = LEGEND

  • Comment removed

  • whats that song called

  • Regardless of one's personal political beliefs, this is a movie everyone should see at least once. It's just great. The trailer reveals too much about it IMO but it's still great.

  • Fuck war.

    Politics are dickheads.

  • ive seen this movie so many times and it always makes me sad one of toms best performances

  • IF YOU DONT LOVE USA........GET THE **** OUT OF HERE..PERIOD

  • Look at all those Yankee Doodles! They are just so dandy. This movie looks gay :-)

  • Yeah, best performance by Tom Cruise. Powerful film.

  • great movie

  • i dont like tom cruise at all, but i saw this movie recently and i loved it!!!!

  • Whoop a dee doo. so were the others

  • It's interesting that people around the world love to criticize the US, yet I don't think there is another country in the world that is as self-critical and self-effacing as the United States. Is there the equivalent to an Oliver Stone or a Michael Moore anywhere else in the world? Are there any Russian films about their invasion of Afghanistan? Are there any British expose biopics about Margaret Thatcher?

  • Es la gran película de la que nadie hablo hoy.

  • Happy birthday Ron Kovic :) ..happy 4th of July everyone :) ..god bless

  • HAhaha this was like the whole movie in 2 min and 43 sec

  • Absolutely brilliant movie that really moved me when I saw it

  • in my opinion, the best anti war movie ever

  • 2:02 was that willem dafoe?

  • @N3RDProductionz Yes, Willem Dafoe is in the film.

I don't know if people remember what an incredible film this is.

So powerful and without question, Tom Cruise's finest performance.

He deserved the oscar for this. If you have not seen this,

Born on the 4th of July is essential viewing.

  • @spiritscar yupp i watched it, the BEST FILM

  • USA LOOSERS ! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Personally, I was disappointed with this film. I went into this film hoping that it would answer the question of why the Vietnam War was unjust. It did for a while, but then the film went off-track, spending too much time focusing on Kovic's sexual frustration in Mexico and his guilt over accidentaly killing Wilson. Those emotions had nothing to do with his transformation into an anti-war activist, because they had nothing to do with the war.

  • @truecinema Remind me to never see a movie with you.

  • I was born in October.

  • @oneovertheoddsthatis me too...

  • one of the best movies of all time.. Tom Cruise's best performance

  • One of my favorite movies, I was hoping someone had uploaded it!

  • Name of the song is For Whats It;s Worth by Buffalo Springfield.

  • WHATS THE NAME OF THE SONG

  • buffalo springfield song called stop hey whats that sound

  • lol, still remember the part,"PENIS! BIG FUCKING ERECT PENIS MOM!

  • Neat, Tom Cruise becomes crazy hippie vet we all laugh about.

  • a horrible trailer for a great movie.

  • That being said, the loss of lives is sad and regrettable - just as the attitudes of some of the soldiers and their officers. This war was mis-managed from the start, too many restrictions were put on the leaders and with the media covering every inch the war nearly hopeless. However, the war was won after the Tet offensive, the NVA was decimated but the American media portrayed it as such an American defeat the military was forced to once again alter its strategy.

  • The world would be much different had the US not fought in Vietnam, the North Vietnamese would have easily overrun the South killing hundreds of thousands of innocents. In the early 60s it would have been a tremendous victory for all Communists - With all of Vietnam Communist, China and the USSR North Korea would have invaded their neighbors to the South as well raising the Cold War to levels that would have been difficult to return from.

  • those many death were not only sad but also in vein. imagine a world in which the US had not gone to wage war in vietnam.... wonder whether it would be any different to ours now except there being no vietnam trauma. probably it would have changed nothing of much significance. and yet so many had to die because some people were blinded by their fear and hatred. well done, gentlemen. next time bring the fight to people who asked for it.

  • @Shatterhemd politics. And i dont believe they died in vein. thats a very cruel thing to say and i advise you not to say it to any veteran in real life. You fight for the man along side you no matter what situation your in. Its called Duty. You die for you best friend an fellow soldier and the country. The Country that stabs you in the back makes you question your home. I have respect for any soldier who has the balls to fight for something. And not all soldiers are good some are cruel.

  • @invanz0 I am sorry, I did not want to offend. I understand how any (veteran) soldier deserves respect for the hardship he/she underwent in times of war. However, the motivation for a war cannot just be put aside in that judgement. Soldiers need to have a moral conscience. Anyone who makes themselves willingly and with other options available part of the opression of a people that has the right for their freedom, including killing those people should expect little respect for what they've done.

  • Who did the worst "spitting"? those in power who spat on the truth, spat on the law, and spat on the worth of the life of soldiers by sending them to a war, to kill millions of Asians and to die by the tens of thousands. They are the real traitors, to send so many to their early deaths. They were the worst "spitters". Those who tried to stop this mass-murdering monstrosity were patriots.war mongers sent GIs to die..what happened when war was lost? Nothing bad but Coca-cola in Vietnam

  • agreed. much more than the soldiers that killed the political forces behind it need(ed) to take responsibility and also to provide support to the soldiers they send to Vietnam in their names. All the same, soldiers are not mindless machines. If my boss told me to physically abuse personnel of a competitor I would not do it either. Politicians always used soldiers for their means but does not mean that each soldier needs to think for themselves and their conscience, too.

  • @econdemocracy Can you imagine what the world would be today if America never joined? Do you even know why we went to war? It was mainly to stop the spread of Communism. South Vietnam would have lost much earlier and probably taken over by Commnuism, including South Korea. Harry Truman's prediction of the spread of Communism would've came true. And how soon would it have reached the Philipines? Japan? Any closer to the U.S.? It may not have been "right" but something would happen sooner or later

  • @wtbriann In other words, Vietnam was a failed U.S. campaign, but if America didn't join, something big would've happened either then or later.

  • @econdemocracy Wow, you're a doucebag!

  • You know whats really ironic: All those hippies that spit on the troops coming home from 'nam are the same people who are cheering the ones during desert storm some years later.

  • It's a great movie. I got so mad when they spat on him and called him a traitor, he sacrificed everything and it was all a lie. And those spoiled fuckers didn't do shit!

  • penis ma, penis !!!!
