Oh yes. There are more head, neck and shoulder injuries from snowboarding (snow is only soft to a certain degree...) than from regular skiing. It's very different from wave surfing. Admittedly you can't hit a tree in the ocean, but you can't drown on snow either...

Yeah, snowboarding is waaaay different. Instead of pivoting on your tail and swinging your nose around, you pivot on the center of your board to turn. Of course riding groomed trails is vastly different than riding powder, but the basics are the same.
