  • by far the best inner-city school flick i have ever seen. the scenes shot in class room felt so real i sometimes thought i was watching a documentary instead of a scripted fictional film. ending the film on a long hand-held shot of empty class room was also a great idea from the director -- a picture is worth a thousand words.

  • esmeralda was a fucking cunt

  • "To Sir avec Love"?

  • On film 4 last week so fucking ignorant and they are not even french !!

  • on film 4 tongiht, looking forward to it

  • @ninjaturtledude999 I just saw it — a.m.a.z.i.n.g film

  • america blows... i'm moving to a french speaking country... probably canada...

  • @SurrealisticMusic Probably go to Montreal if you want more French and a big change of scenery. If you want time to adapt to Canada, go to Vancouver (though it's expensive).

  • Is this movie like Freedom Writers?

  • @CorazonDulce07 Looks very much like it, that's he first thing that came to my mind. Will give it a try though!

  • what's the song?

  • the arguments over this vid is wayy better than the trailer! :p

  • what's the name of the song??

  • I would punch esmeralda in the face!

  • CAN SOMEONE PLZZZZZZZZZZZ TELL ME HOW I CAN WATCH THE FULL ENGLISH SUBBED.

  • @famous1779 Download it from filestube and then download subtitles from allsubs.org.

  • @AlanDawaDolma57 i've already watched it, but thx

  • @kenzoi There supposed to. Thats how life is there, and in other tough areas. Teaching is a labor of love.

  • ok calm down. not all americans are like that.. stop generalizing. for example: i do not like bombs, and i dont care about cars.............. if you think all americans are heartless and stupid, then open YOUR eyes and try to be realistic.... thanks

  • @kenzoi Well when art is concerned, "all tastes exist in nature" as we say ;) I like realistic, because to me unrealistic is unengaging, uninteresting. So it's counter-active as it doesn't "drag me in" at all. I know that a balance must be reach for pedagogic and storytelling purposes but the more realistic the better IMHO. I don't know if Kubrick was "the best who ever existed" but he was among the very best for sure...that's also why i don't like extremes and peremptory affirmations : limiting

  • @kenzoi How can a movie be "too realistic"...It's important that they are as realistic as possible. It's not about happy-endings or making characters lovable... It's about showing what the world is like.

  • are all french people so ugly and badly dressed

  • @BackInAGiffy Are all Americans as dumb & stupid as you are? Or are you just a case in a billion? I think i'll go for the second idea. Apart from you, I think no one can be THAT stupid.

  • @xNiaaa well watch the video, it would seem the french are still living in the 90s

  • @BackInAGiffy I watched the movie and loved it. Just because french people in this video have bad dressing habits doesn't mean all french people dress like that, how dumb can you be?! This movie illustrates the less fortunates ones going to a public school, of course they have to be badly dressed. Or would you imagine them all going in Louboutins shoes, Louis Vuitton bags or Versace dresses? I don't understand how stupid someone can be.

  • @xNiaaa it illustrates how annoying kids thinking there so smart

  • @BackInAGiffy *they're

  • @pemchem *middle finger*

  • lol and you trigger happy death penalty freaks still live in 19th century... so please

  • @Barteamjoe i was talking about what they were wearing and the awful music, you guillotine happy freaks.

  • haha open a history book, will you ?

  • @Barteamjoe and what has this got to do with history ? observe the context you stupid French fag.

  • nevermind, hillbilly, nevermind...

  • @Barteamjoe that's right run away, then again you're french - it makes sense.

  • and you re american, that makes sense too ^^ Btw ,care to use my language now ? Im kind of tired using english..oh no right, you uneducated cowboys dont know shit about whats outside US border....

  • @Barteamjoe why would i want to use French, only third world African countries plus France speak french.

It probably figures out that we do know "shit" about the outside world considering we are the richest most powerful country in the world. oh yeah You Tube is an American invention ;)

  • richest most powerful country in the world ??? hahahahah Chinese own you by the balls, French is on your american passport and one of UN official language. JESUS GET AN EDUCATION ALREADY youre still living in the 80's

  • @Barteamjoe ooooo "one of the UN languages" LMFAO, I have an education, where i chose to learn German rather than fucking french. China is a shit hole the Government is a disgrace and half the population live in poverty they may be catching the US up financially but in terms of a country its a failure, bit like France in ww1 and 2 ;-) remember 1945 when the civilians of Paris flew US flags =)

  • so do I. But that was 66 years ago, move the fuck on buddy ^^ besides thay had nothing to do with today s american. (US is become a failure, China 's improving)

  • @Barteamjoe ha ha ha that's gratitude ?

  • @BackInAGiffy always the same argument, right? there's a proverbe in french saying "when we don't have a lot of jam, we spread it". You are condescendant man. People like you make the world agree on the fact that American people are uncultivated . If you're not interested in france, than why on earth are you watching this video?

  • @xNiaaa ignore this backinagiffy person. please, please dont think all americans are that ignorant...

  • @iTresJolie im not ignorant im just commenting what this film is showing me

  • @BackInAGiffy are you stupid. yes

  • @iTresJolie no, im correct

  • this movie shows the true colors of multiculturalism.

  • u cn get in dvd wit eng subtitles... wher duu u liv??? if u dun min cz i tink imiite help

  • can someone plz send me a link to watch this with english subtitles plz plz plz someone need it for some skl work it has to be french with english subtitles !! someone help!!!!

  • @Superegio42 If this were true, then there wouldn't be any Blacks in universities, and nobody would ever graduate from any school at all, which is not exactly the case. Plus, you can find kids causing trouble in all-White schools too, so please stop considering a minority to be representative of millions of people you probably know nothing about. This is just ridiculous.

PS: i'm a Black French who just got a master's degree, and just so you know, there's no affirmative action here in France.

  • @MsNana94 lol which is only fair. the fact that blacks get it easier with affirmative action in the US is not fair. there are other minority groups who have to suffer more to get here and do well yet they're not affected by affirmative action cuz there's a greater number of them applying to schools.

  • @Dtwaine I know, and i don't like the idea of an affirmative action either, which is basically reversing the problem rather than solving it. I think it should all be about your grades and that's it. The problem with college in the US is that it's so ridiculously expensive that even people with good grades in high school can just get cut off because they can't afford it, which is more than unfair. But that's another debate.

  • @Superegio42

    Haha.

You are being ignorant and racist, but when I click on your username, guess what comes up on your page as the first thing:

    A music video with Usher.

The joke is on you. loser!

  • Reminds me of my diverse middle school when I was in the States, except that the Asian kid (Wei) would be hitting on the fiesty middle eastern girl (Esmeralda) XD

  • that Esmeralda is right bitch, her alone made that film kind of suck.

  • i like the background music

  • nice movie

  • the teachers and the students are not actors

    this is a reality

  • Wei almost looks like kevjumba

  • Agreed with shadowkitty56. I teach French in California and I showed this film to all my classes, with the intention of seeing the reactions of my students at the beginning levels where the behavior problems are the most common. After the film, behavior issues quieted down, but the apathy continued. That is what is wrong with education today...too much apathy towards everything.

  • It's estonian film cover?

  • Don't know how I have never heard of this film before, from the clip it looks fantastic, some wonderful characters all beautifully portrayed...I must see it soon!

    tres, tres belle!

  • This movie was ok,very overrated, there are better french movies such as amelie or la femme nikita

  • Esmeralda I saw as an immature little twerp who should have been taught a lesson years ago. I suspect one day she will, and it will strike her dumb. Her own immaturity as a class representative costs a man his job down the line....and her refusal to listen to any voice but her own will one day find she is the only one willing to talk to herself because all others have given up.

  • Frankly, I did not like this movie. I saw it as derivative and felt no sympathy nor empathy for ANY of the characters. None of them are particularly endearing. The teacher doesn't make a single attempt to "get them where they live," in other words some of the books he pushes on them do not speak at all to the experience of these kids. Voltaire is great when you want to teach about Deism and the watchmaker God, but terrible if you feel absolutely nothing when you read it.

  • @shadowkitty56 Agreed with you, but in an other hand that is LIFE, what teachers in France and , surely , in others countries, meet every working day. That is not a matter of good guys or bad guys, rather guys living together. Do you see my point ?

this film is absolutely awesome... It says a ton not only about schools in paris, but also here in the US. I seriously recommend it :)

  • I LOVED THIS

  • Best movie eva!

  • estonians have same film named "the class" and it is much better then that film

estonians films name is "KLASS" actuly. it's mean the class

  • @Nighit3 It was only a copy and a remake of this film....Estonia... ? lol I'm sure 99% of people in the world are not able to situate you country on the map....

  • @burtoncaly I can!!

  • I don't get why everyone said this was a good movie. My french teacher made my class watch it today, and at the end of the movie, I felt like I had wasted 2 hours of my life, it was pointless, and no one in my class like it.

(And I heard 4 people in my class call Esmerelda ugly :D )

  • @cinnamontl

Well, we can't all appreciate art now, can we?

  • @cinnamontl how could a movie be successful in the US without a backward, silicone blonde in the title role...

  • @fortpflanzor Simple. By already having two or three films of this formulation under its belt, some of which are more than 15 years old. In this case, I would wager to say that la belle France is behind on bringing the issues of impoverished inner city kids at school to the screen. That is a hard reality.

  • @cinnamontl Of course, if you love the movies such as the big production made in Hollywood like Inception, Twilght etc.. it's absolutely not the same kind of movie...

  • I don't know why but I'm sure you are american, if it's true, that explain your reaction because there are not bomb, blond and big car. I think you don't like simple things.

  • @Frily1 learn how to speak English right dumb ass

  • Try to speak another language, the movie is in french so speak french, I try to speak english for you understand what I tell ^^' and I'm polite with you so be polite with me ! It's no hard you know...

  • @BoToGo1 The irony here is; you're the dumb ass for not understanding how difficult it is to speak another language other than your native tongue. You don't understand that, because you've never tried. You've never tried because you're physically incapable.

So, do us all a favour. Stand up, turn around, and get the fuck out of your basement.

  • @FatherFizz You don't know shit about me so how are you gonna say I don't know how to speak any other language and I'm just doing what they do to us. You think you like the French so much go over their and see how much they'll treat you like shit regardless if you are open to their culture and not like an "average" American.

  • @BoToGo1 I know that you're ignorant and uneducated. You make that very clear indeed. The comment I replied to and "I'm just doing what they do to us" proves that beyond any doubt.

I do go over there, as a matter of fact. I spend two months of every year in Paris. But this isn't about the French in particular - this is about your blatant disregard for any language other than your own and for the people that speak it.

Oh, and it's "go over there" not "go over their". Ironic, eh.

  • @Frily1 ok calm down. not all americans are like that.. stop generalizing. for example: i do not like bombs, and i dont care about cars.............. if you think all americans are heartless and stupid, then open YOUR eyes and try to be realistic.... thanks

  • Oh, I'm calm and I really don't think you are stupid, I said some stereotypes, the stereotypes are like rumors sometimes they are true sometimes false. Try to know us, like we try to understand and to speak your language, if we try to understand and to know eachother everything would be okay

  • the whole world would call esmeralda ugly

So yeah it's a blank drama to me

  • I thought this was gonna be like the french version of that shitty ooh poor black people freedom writers stupidass movie, but its so not. I like it cos it brings me back to my school days back in nz, even though its french everything is so similar

  • @Racocamoca

Freedom Writers was pretty good and was based on a true story.

  • I feel asleep with freedom writers so I can't say that it was bad but it defintely wasn't good enough for me to stay awake. This films contains some of the best acting I've seen thus far. I was astonished by all performances. Esmerelda blew me away, she was just a bolt of good ole energy. I hope they pursue something great in life as I hope for all students around the world. They have much to achieve. Holla to ma peeps in France.

  • this is just awesome film, especially the part when the teacher accidentally calls the two girls whores..that was insane..

This film was awesome, yea it was a bit too long and dragged on sometimes, but i much prefer it to those american films of the same concept ie freedom writers and that one with matthew perry

( BAFFES)

  • @kenzoi alright, thanks mate.

i changed my mind, i'm going to download it from TPB for free xD.

its just that i live in belgium and we still have a limit on our internet you know. so when i go above my limit internet goes slow for the rest of the month and believe me that sucks.

belgium is the only one still having a bandwidth limit.

  • @kenzoi how come? and can u tell me what the movie is about? because i'm not buying him if i don't know if its a good story or not.

  • @ThePolarLights You're just so classy.

  • great movie

  • i didnt really get this movie

i liked it but i didnt really get it can someone explain

  • Comment removed

  • i hated this movie! So unrealistic, I am a pupil as well.

  • whats the added background sound?

is there any way someone can make a video with just the song, not any of the speakinggg?

    :)

  • good movie. it reminds me a lot of freedom writers

  • God, this movie was like a blast from the past for me...

  • Does anyone know the name of the song played in the trailer?

  • i'm surprised this movie was exported to US and this is not dubbed (don't you get bored with subtitles ?)

moreover don't get impressed by this class; in france it's still a "kind" one

i like the way it represents french young society, since it shows our huge ethnic diversity

finally i'd like to thank american people for enjoying our culture and our language as i enjoy theirs

  • @fortpflanzor

don't brush subtitles out completely. They allow the viewer to really grasp the intonation of the speaker, where as dubs are usually cheesy and not well done. if you watch it enought subtitles just become second nature to the viewer, PLUS you learn the language!

  • you're maybe right, but when we watch dubbed US movies in france, they are even better as the actors who dub improve the toun of the original actor

  • The french actor is better than the US actor?

(trying to make sense of that lol)

That is probably true as we have a lot of mediocre "actors" in the states...but we also have some very good ones too!

I guess I prefer to watch foreign films (i am american) in the original language with subtitles because I like to get as much of the cultures expression as possible

  • no french suck a lot (and there are few exceptions)

but an actor dubbing another one is always better because he only has to say a text, not to act with his body

however some actors are so excellent that the dub is ridiculous compared to their performance

Please don't pay any attention to this previous comment, in no way does dubbing improve a film, and in no way a dubbing actor gets it better than the original one.

  • @Nicowindprod Si tu le dis...

Can you maybe give some arguments, even if I bet you dont watch a lot dubbed movies ?

  • Hey guys . where can I download or watch thismovie with English Subs? Please help me. . . I need this for our film viewing. Thank you.

  • trop bien ce film ma est paareeille:)

  • can i see the movie in youtube? does anyone know the link to it?

  • ha jakers america do you understand this are you guys capable of formulating an opinion???i hate the way people underestimate american peoples intelligence, disregarding the ones i have seen in Ireland i know that americans are not stupid wow what a strange way to dissect an extrodinary film

  • well, Americans haven't proved me wrong yet on the fact that they are indeed morons. G. W. Bush anyone?

  • grouping a large set of people into one category is much more moronic.

    and ignorant.

but I will agree that governments, in most countries, are usually moronic as well.

  • lol great film but i came here to LOOK FOR THE MUSIC gosh its so good xP

  • I have the impression that the situation in the public schools worldwide has only worsened since sidney poitier's "to sir, with love."

  • This trailer doesn't accurately represent how truly awesome this movie is.

  • Esmeralda is an absolute beast!

  • I love this movie! J'adore français!

  • I saw this today in my Film Lecture. I thought it was interesting stuff.

  • its like freedom writers

  • Lol.

  • i saw this film today with film studies class it was soo good

  • i want to speak french lol.. so cool

  • J'adore français! J'aime parle français aussi! Take a class... Within 4 years you will be fluent! Very good language and culture. I love it!

  • take it from like a person form Europe guys.

Football (you call it soccer) is bigger than basketball even tho basketball is WAY better. Like in England and Ireland it is HUGE cos soccer is like was all the men watch.

  • i think they just talk shit about american football as the world sees football played with the round ball. that was a sixers jersey that carl was wearing in the film. basketball and the NBA is huge in europe.

  • its true but its like going to america and saying which is bigger soccer or basketball. alot more people will say basketball but some will say soccer. but no matter any way you look at it basketball is bug in europe but compared to soccer its nothing.

  • I think its a bit stupid to generalise Europeans like that. Do you mean a country in particular?

  • well american footbal is brutal so...

  • Your wrong!

  • that is so offensive.

  • trash

  • Louise is hot.

  • @isabiggles1 Esmeralda too

  • @isabiggles1 and don´t forget Khoumba she is really hot too

  • Je veux le voir

  • its French you stupid fuckin hill billy.

  • lol how is that a play on words. And you really can't call anyone a simpleton after attempting to say fuck French.

  • Chill guys.

That discussion makes up for another movie (not that I don't know any already made about the subject), so I thik its time to learn something..

  • someone's needs to rendez-vous chez Doctor Chill-pill... Bcp de bises.

  • F.U.
