In Brazil we pay like R$4000 to get air conditioner, hydraulic steering wheel, electric windows (only for the front seats) and electric locks. And we have to add this gadgets in a 30k car! If I live in America, I would be very happy to pay 35k in a Audi A5, not 250k like here, or 500k in a A8. And remember that dollar is R$1,80, not that much.
Audi and vw reliability has improved by a lot, I think both brands r pretty good, just take care of it and go through all the required maintenance and you'll be fine
I feel like this car is lacking from the 7 series and S class. For starters, its very underpowered, the BMW is doing a 4.8 0-60 and the S class a 4.9. I will say that they economy that the A8 is getting is fanatic, but the performance is very disappointing. Also, because Audi is owned by VW, I notice that Audi sometimes cuts corners with all their technology and it just not up to par with the luxury of either BMW or mercedes. S class and 7 Series still the king of this class.
The 760Li is a V12, the S63 AMG is a beefed-up S500 which has a V8, and the Audi has the standard V8, if at all you're going to compare cars, make sure it's of the same types, EG, 750Li, S500 and A8 4.2, makes sense?
For all you guys out there who are complaining about how this isn't like top gear, this is what I have to say. IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO COMPETE WITH TOP GEAR. One is a tv show with millions world wide watching it, and one is just a short tech reviewing websites car review. You guys are stupid if you think this is a bad review. He doesn't have thousands of dollars in resources like the BBC does.

the bang&olufsen soundsystem is one of the best and you will not regret it. It is worthwhile to spend 6000$ for this. btw its the same price here in germany. funny thing its 6000€ so thats round about 8500$. you lucky US guys....
I like the previous generation A8. Audi makes Luxurious cars. Exterior Looks awesome however back lights are dis-proportionate. My rating of the 2011 A8 is 8 out of 10. Grade of B+.
Has there been research to prove the effectiveness of expensive car wash cloths? Audi Looks Like they do a good job in painting their cars. I wonder if there is Wax Technology that don't strip. Cloth and Clear Coat must go hand-in-hand.
Undeniably the nicest Full size luxury vehicle in the market, the Mercedes S-class is nice but next to the new Audi A8?? It makes the Mercedes seem like its been discontinued
@Johncarson9113 That's because the S-class is 6 years old and this A8 is brand new. To me though the A8 looks like a stretched A4, aside from the fancy lights it's very dull.
@Slimecrazy234 The same could be said for the S-class, although a nice car the S-class is a very conservative design considering it holds the same traditional styling as the rest of its lineup. I'm sure the new S-class will improve a lot as they always do. But yes I agree it seems the A4 design revolves around every other car in the Audi line up but thats not such a bad thing at least not to me, I love the new look of the Audi A4, the A8 is simply the bigger & better version of it in my opinion

@Johncarson9113 Absolutely, but it would help if the car they're filtering was a bit more exciting. The A4 is probably the dullest looking car in its segment (when you get past the LED lights and big grill). There is nothing special about the body work, contrast to say a BMW 3 series. The design of the new Jetta is also very similar to the A4 (the A4 looks like a stretched Jetta with Audi lights and grill). When you blow that up to A8 size and charge a fortune for it = not great.
Mercedes is still the best, hands down. They lead whereas everyone else follows. Every generation of S Class is heralded as the epitome of automotive technology, with good reason. With every new model, BMW and Audi take several years to release their new 7 Series & A8 respectively, presumably always playing a game of catch up.
Compared to this A8 (which is brand spanking new) and the 3 year old 7 Series, the 6 year old S Class seems a little dated, but the new one is coming in just over a year
If the Mercedes S-class is still the class leading flag ship sedan next year then people seriously have no taste in cars whats so ever, this makes the BMW 7 series and Mercedes S-class look garbage. I'm very fond of the 7 series but its doesn't compare anywhere near to this new Audi A8, pure Luxury. The car simply doesn't belong in this era, its like from year 2050!
B&O's audio system is for buyers who appreciate good sound quality. If you aren't one of those buyers, don't bash it for being overpriced. Most people agree that while price and quality are generally directly related, their relation is definitely not linear.
My dad got a 750li. We test drove all of them including this and I found to have a lot of body roll and understeer, it was a cruiser and didn't handle as well as the 750. The interiors are evenly matched, but it looks like a elongated a4. It one of the cheapest options in this class and is in the middle
We need more of this type of reviews. I watch review to help me decide what car i want to buy. Too many reviews talk about 0,4 or 0,3 difference faster around the track, bout the chicken soup for the soul and all that bullshit. Those reviews are for people who cant afford cars and watch videos to day dream bout it. Then they go around the real world bragging that "oh this car is faster!, oh no that car's faster" *scoff, yea faster by 0.1 sec? do u really car about that in real life? grow up.
"Silent & Smooth like a Tune"? How could "you" tell? Every shot of you driving, ALL THE WINDOWS were down! Who owns a car like this and drives with the windows down? Audi's fresh air scrubbers are the best in the industry! And your ears must be flat if you think that Bang & Olefson isn't exceptional. They are also the best reference sound in the industry! I tuned in for a realistic assessment and you started losing me in the first scene! Not interested in an egocentric evaluation....
To my ears he said "silent and smooth like a tomb". As to driving with windows down - it does look weird! Almost like he didn't know how to operate the AC.
@TheSkraner Every video I've seen him in he allways has the windows down even in cars with basic A/C controls. Guess he hates A/C Maybe thats why he thinks the B&O system isn't worth it probally couldn't hear the audio detail with all that wind and ambient noise.
I'm really surprised you would go for the Audi out of the four brands. After watching your BMW 7 reviews I was pretty sure the Bimmer was the winner. I mean at least feature-wise, the Audi doesn't offer nearly as much as the Bimmer or Merc S-Class.
Hideous plasticky waaay overdone front grille and the backend just looks incredibly generic. Too many gimmicks and techy things. Electronics maintenance NIGHTMARE - remember, it is an Audi.
I'd much rather have an S -class MB. Much better, more luxury and looks great in comparison to the 8. Fine for those who want it, but it just looks and feels like they tried TOO hard.

The LED lights add the more luxurious and swift look that puts it slightly above the 7 series, S-Class, and other cars in it's class. I spoke to an Audi car salesman on the phone and asked him why I should prefer an Audi over a BMW. We talked for 15 minutes...13 of those minutes was him bragging about LED lights -____-
maybe he should tell u, that the a8 is 200 kg lighter than a bmw 7 series with x drive!
moreover the a8 is (with the 4,2 tdi, 350 hp and 800 nm) the fastest diesel car in the world, with a comperable fuel economy of a mercedes s320 cdi (over 250 hp).
you get the touchpad only in the a8, the solar roof cools your car, if it is parked (also just available in the a8). the a8 hast got a 8 speed automatic transmission, bmw 7 series and mercedes s class just 6 speed.

but the 4,2 liter diesel accelerates faster and consumes only 7,6 liter diesel in 100 kilometers, that means with a full fueal tank, you'll drive over 1000 kilometers.
there is also a 3,0 liter diesel with 250 hp.
and you can order the 12 cylinder a8 with 500 hp. (also gazoline)
moreover there will be a hybrid
but the 4,2l diesel would be the best choice. my opinion
i'm livin in germany and hadn't unfortunately the oportunity to drive this car. but i went to an authorized audi dealer and sit in the car. the quality is really awesome.

it's because these cars are really extremely expensive here in germany. and you're paying much much more for all extras as in the U.S.
i've looked in the audi u.s. and audi germany page. if you'll equip an a8 (4,2 fsi) with all extras, you have to pay 200.000 $ in germany, whereas you just have to pay 110.000 $ in the U.S.

I can literally see the design flaws in little details on American cars, whereas on German cars, especially Audis, the design is sharply calculated, and perfect. @TheSkraner Every video I've seen him in he allways has the windows down even in cars with basic A/C controls. Guess he hates A/C Maybe thats why he thinks the B&O system isn't worth it probally couldn't hear the audio detail with all that wind and ambient noise.

I'm really surprised you would go for the Audi out of the four brands. After watching your BMW 7 reviews I was pretty sure the Bimmer was the winner. I mean at least feature-wise, the Audi doesn't offer nearly as much as the Bimmer or Merc S-Class.

Hideous plasticky waaay overdone front grille and the backend just looks incredibly generic. Too many gimmicks and techy things. Electronics maintenance NIGHTMARE - remember, it is an Audi.
I'd much rather have an S -class MB. Much better, more luxury and looks great in comparison to the 8. Fine for those who want it, but it just looks and feels like they tried TOO hard.

seems like overkill for the road, install some propulsion & get these techno marvels
in to outer space....the best possible feature not yet invented is to take out the human elements...Impatience,Distraction,Ego's,lack of concern for others lives,thoughtlessness , sheer stupidity & self centeredness..and the best, the illusion that you cant get hurt in your car..why is there not a push for voice controlled everything ?

@KenGold666 If they remove the LED lights, it will become just a more expensive VW. The LED lights add the more luxurious and swift look that puts it slightly above the 7 series, S-Class, and other cars in it's class. I spoke to an Audi car salesman on the phone and asked him why I should prefer an Audi over a BMW. We talked for 15 minutes...13 of those minutes was him bragging about LED lights -____-

maybe he should tell u, that the a8 is 200 kg lighter than a bmw 7 series with x drive!
moreover the a8 is (with the 4,2 tdi, 350 hp and 800 nm) the fastest diesel car in the world, with a comperable fuel economy of a mercedes s320 cdi (over 250 hp).
you get the touchpad only in the a8, the solar roof cools your car, if it is parked (also just available in the a8). the a8 hast got a 8 speed automatic transmission, bmw 7 series and mercedes s class just 6 speed.

no, of course not
there is a 3,0 liter turbocharged gazoline engine with 300 hp and a 4,2 liter gazoline with 372 hp.
but the 4,2 liter diesel accelerates faster and consumes only 7,6 liter diesel in 100 kilometers, that means with a full fueal tank, you'll drive over 1000 kilometers.
there is also a 3,0 liter diesel with 250 hp.
and you can order the 12 cylinder a8 with 500 hp. (also gazoline)
moreover there will be a hybrid
but the 4,2l diesel would be the best choice. my opinion

i'm livin in germany and hadn't unfortunately the oportunity to drive this car. but i went to an authorized audi dealer and sit in the car. the quality is really awesome.
i guess your livin in the states? if that's the case, i don't know how it's possible to participate on a test drive time.

@Suevari Yes, I live in the U.S. And it's possible to test drive them. I'm under 25, so they will probably not take me seriously and not give me the test drive... that's the unfortunate way dealers look at people when I'm honestly interested. But I should be able to. Why, is it hard to test drive them in Germany? I mean they ARE German cars. Oh, and nice care you guys produce btw :D

it's because these cars are really extremely expensive here in germany. and you're paying much much more for all extras as in the U.S.
i've looked in the audi u.s. and audi germany page. if you'll equip an a8 (4,2 fsi) with all extras, you have to pay 200.000 $ in germany, whereas you just have to pay 110.000 $ in the U.S.
and german car dealers are really sceptical.
btw, i'am also under 25 years old. :)

@Suevari Well I'm sure they are skeptical, they always demand the best for the best. I can literally see the design flaws in little details on American cars, whereas on German cars, especially Audis, the design is sharply calculated, and perfect. That's why if I walk into a dealership (American or German) They will probably rool their eyes and go towards 55 years old Joe. haha

@shwndh I don't think any car should have systems like this. Sure it's kind of neat, but parallel parking is a basic driving skill that every driver should have. This is just the beginning of systems that will keep bad drivers driving, instead of in the ditch where they belong! Lmfao!

If anything, this is one of the best park assistance systems because it actually helps you to become better at parallel parking because it actually shows you what YOU should be doing - instead of crippling you and doing it for you. But that benefit was totally overlooked by the reviewer. Car makers must get frustrated when they see stupid comments like that.
