The Khan says that as Igor did not ask for mercy he is not a prisoner but an honoured guest equal to a Khan and summons the Polovtsian slaves to entertain Igor and himself.

  • @DrMundo74 NO! Khan is turk! Njt Russian(as like Tatar)

  • @NekhnoV well Prince Igor and his son are Russian, Khan is Tatar (turkic kinda)

  • @DrMundo74 If be correct The nationality of Konchak belong Polovetsians(kiptchaks). In 1222 ye. They were killed by Mongolian,

  • LAWLZ, I love how everyone is talking about Acadec on here c:

  • As far I remember, Polovtsian Dances is Borodin's symphony, but this song is made of couple of parts, is it ONE song or many of them?

    I agree.

  • RAHXEPHON

  • @tHeWasTeDYouTh Ahahaha, I love how everyone knows this song because of Rahxephon. Heard this one in my childhood, but can't remember when or where. And then, years later the same song in Rahxephon. Bugged me a long time why this song sounded so familiar.

  • @musashi939 I first heard it in that show but I thought it was made for the show, some years later I bought a video games and the song appeared there so I did some research and found this

  • Super show. I'm going to show to the Wrocław Opera. My favorite theme is from 6 minutes

  • Super show. I'm going to show to the Wrocław Opera.

  • Is the choreography set so that they don't dance synchronically? I thought they had to jump and dance at the same time but they don't. Is the choreography that bad or is it meant to be that way?

  • every time, every single time when i hear this song, without fail, I ALWAYS CRY!!

  • @kinglymon - me too, this song has always had that effect on me, ever since hearing it as a kid. makes me want to live a simple life off in some cold mountain village at the edge of a black forest

  • Dammit, this so so so so should have been evangelion's opening, as much as I love cruel angels thesis this is much more fitting!

  • Uletaj na kryl'jach vetra

Tuda gde my tebya svobodno peli,

Ty V kraj rodnoj, rodnaja pesnya nasha,

Tuda gde my tebya svobodno peli,

  • This is really good, not my genre of music but I do like this song a lot.

  • prince igor is a great opera but it lacks a plot that is strong enough to get the plot moving in a direciton that is non-stop/continuous

  • My goodness, I love that opera.

  • Such emotion! One of Russia's greatest music-makers (and there seem to be many to choose from).

Ace dancing, haunting songs and a real sense of excitement.

    Thanks for this.

  • So this was the original opening music the director of nge planned to use.. too bad the moneypeople wanted a pop song instead, it suits so well, beautiful music.

  • @lezvarthok i wonder if your sources are reliable

  • The Polovtsian Dances (or Polovetsian Dances)are ,perhaps the best known selections from Alexander Borodin's opera Prince Igor (1890). They are often played as a stand-alone concert piece. Borodin was the original composer, but the opera was left unfinished at his death and was subsequently completed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Glazunov.

  • 0:40.....mmmmmm

  • costuming is not so good. the guys look too much like skinny ballet boys instead of warriors. they need full shirts. and the girls look like porcelain dolls. very pretty, but....

  • a true masterpiece!

  • 11 people wouldn't know good music if it smacked them in the face.

  • 2:12 what's the name of the girl?

  • Uletay na kryl'yakh vetra

ty v kray rodnoy, rodnaya pesnya nasha,

tuda, gde my tebya svobodno peli,

  • My favourite moment since 1.12))

  • This was almost the theme to Neon Genesis Evangelion...

  • is there a follow up to this as it only goes to 17 in the work?

  • great! great! oh great!

  • Never seen ballet before I laid eyes on this youtube video, and I gotta admit, this was really pleasant to watch.

  • @lurker2626 feeling is mutual :)

  • Thrilled me as a child and still does so in my sixties.

  • @Motivrock: De acuerdo! (I agree!)

  • @ 03:40 -- "IN A WORLD... where justice has died... one man... must stand alone..."

(Coming soon to a cinema near you...)))))))

  • Exquisite music, chorus, staging and choreography. I would love to see this fully staged at the London Coliseum although I fear that the cost may prove prohibitive. Very sad.

  • and the costumes are fantastic!!!!

  • 4:40 That's great!

    ehehe

  • Prince Igor likes this!

  • Great performance... Musicians, choir... Dancers.... Just magic.. Thanks for sharing.. ! XX

    Nathalie

  • the best and unsurpassable balet is Russian, thanks!

  • I am totally stuck with this. I have always loved Prince Igor but for some reason I do not know why I keep listening to this beautiful piece nowadays. Borodin is definitely my favourite composer after Tchaikovsky :)

  • ah, I love trombones

  • NICE VIDEO

  • digna del kirov

  • Unbelievable great music!!!

  • Julio Iglesias song "Quiereme" took part of the music from this masterpiece.

  • Played this with the youth orchestra I'm in. Brings back memoriessss!! Sounds so nice with the singing as well :D

  • Wonderful

  • I have only ever listened to the music and NEVER seen the ballet. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • THE DANCING WAS IN NO WAY SYNCED OR IN TIME WITH THE MUSIC

  • @salrubz: MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE YOU USE ALL CAPS AND THAT MAKES YOU THINK THEY'RE YELLING ALL THE TIME AND YOUR EARS ARE ACTUALLY LOWER THAN YOUR EYES BECAUSE OF IT. just a guess.

  • the chorus is dragging behind the orchestra, they need to learn how to stay together.

  • phantastisch und großartig

  • Imagine this as the OP for Neon Genesis Evangelion. Anno was brilliant ^^

  • One does get goosebumps listening to such a beautifull piece of Russian soul.

  • In this masterpiece Borodin captured the soul of the Russian culture

  • I am covered in goosebumps, as always, when I watch this.

  • I am govered in goosebumps, as always, when I hear this...

  • Fly away on the wings of the wind

to our homeland, o native song of ours,

thither, where we freely sang you,

where it was so free for me and you.

  • I dunno, the choreaography looks too effiminate. These are supposed to be tribes from the steppes of Russia. Raw and, well, tribal

  • Choral and orchestra are great, truly masterpiece, but choreography is awful >_<

  • @malicesgossips My friend, "Price Igor" is an OPERA to begin with, not a ballet!

  • *Prince

  • @DrMundo74 seriously? =)

And it's Knyaz Igor, not "prince". To begin with.

  • @malicesgossips "Knyaz" it is - in Russian, in English it translates as "prince"

and yes, seriously, it is an opera, not a ballet...

  • @DrMundo74

    1. nope, in English it would be either "king" (etymologically: kuningyaz->cyning->king) or a sovereign duke.

    2. learn what does "sarcasm" mean.

  • @malicesgossips Why don't you learn some basic English grammar for starters :)

  • @DrMundo74 to speak with such ignorant people as you are? Not a big pleasure, you know.

  • @malicesgossips Sorry, kiddo. Go back to watching women's wrestling then.

  • @DrMundo74 you're not so smart, aren't you?

  • @malicesgossips Oh, not as smart as you are! )))

  • @DrMundo74 I already figured it out, no need to prove it further.

  • @malicesgossips Yay!!!

  • What‘ the music's name?

  • @petiteange08 "Polovtsian Dances" by Aleksandr Borodin

  • that brass part at 3:09 is fun to play as a trombonist. this music is just beautiful..

  • who is the female dancer at 02:12, is that Polina Rassadina? totally love the way she moves, it's mesmerizing! though not in sync with the music, as is the entire Polovtsian dance part, but that's the choreographer to blame for, not the dancers i guess.

  • GREAT..THANKS

  • The Cumans are well depicted

  • IT'S A PIECE >_<;; A wonderful one by the way.

  • The music is both emotional and etheral, which gives more weight to the words of the chorus. An excellent epic of music which is far underrated. The dance is worthy of mention as well, especially in sinc with music beginning at 3:40.

  • this is sublime...the russian composers are so underrated...cold war...well, the genes of our superior elites must survive, after all, though science is now proving that genes are MALIABLE, MALIABLE, MALIABLE...so much for the struggle for survival...and it's really best, isn't it ? i mean, all that gene crap, really, after Hegel, you really ought to have known better...

  • I heard this music on National Public Radio and searched forever to find it! I was rewarded!

  • Maravilloso

  • Thank you for posting this, the combination of good dancing, acting, superb singing _ goosebumps.. I'm a Russian leaving in America, very involved with ballet (my son is a ballet dancer) and music.., miss my days in Moscow when I could actually see on stage.. Anyway, thanks!

  • @fishmaster9399 One of my dreams is to go to the Kirov (Marynsky?) and Bolshoi theatres and see wonderful productions like these. They're not done in the U.S. for some reason. I will enjoy with you!

  • siere sopire aerets ioerept aretefare

  • Meeehhhh, I like Borodin and prince Igor and all, but for some reason the choreography doesn't do it for me. It seems to lack the epicness of the music.

  • @strelkuz

  • only good music for your Baby)

  • Beautiful dancing. I am moved.

  • very nice.

    I love it

    I like singing this melody.

  • As a gamer this reminds me of heroes 3 :D

  • he jumps ABSURDLY high at 2:33. Is that even possible? lol

  • @Dark1Angel2010: Well, luckily, this counts as a ballet with chorus.

  • boring .... I hate Opera

  • Mongorians! =)

this is an amazing piece, and I love the dancing! =)

  • @sillychad18

You're not too far off with your assessment of the Polovtsy as Mongolians. The Kazakhs, Cumans, and other peoples of the Crimea were either of Mongolian ancestry or were their vassals. One of the last remnants of Mongolian rule was the Crimean Khanate, which lasted until 1783, contemporary to the American Revolution!

  • @jodimest oh I see, that's confusing! but very interesting! =)

  • The Polovtsian dances is the most amazing music that I have ever heard. It's beautiful. That's it.

  • Great performance! The MUSIC is... barbaric! bravissimo! Male dancers too skinny to project fear and power.

  • It's like the video is in slow motion.. I love every second of it. Very hypnotizing.

  • This is my favorite piece from Borodin. This version is beautifully staged as well. Nice chorus, too.

  • the beauty of the orchestra is but surpassed by the beauty of the orchestra with the chorus

  • There is a saying in Eastern Europe: Art is made, but Music is discovered. This music, even this Music, is a eprfect case in point. Ethereal barely describes the haunting beauty of the sopranos; by the way it is the chorus which the Rusiian soprano sang at the end of the 2010 Olympics as a prelude to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

  • ??? there are lots of women in the mix - not sure how u can miss them all, espcially when they are singing without any dudes at all for over a minute straight. weird comment.

  • ".Even if it's true...." - yea but none of what you said is true. wow.

  • @Vanta

The fact that there are men in the opera has nothing whatsoever to do with their sexual preferences. This is music. Additionally, it's spelled "dude," not "dood." I only mention this because it is difficult to discern meaning when there are many misspellings. Best wishes.

  • <3 ! oh!

  • Haha, I JUST performed this a few hours ago. It was a choir with an orchestra. Now that I see the actors and dancers it all makes a lot more sense.

  • Awesome, I'm watching it because I'm about to perform it!

  • the more I watch it the more I like it!

I'm from Mexico and is so good to me found this video.

  • I like it so much...

  • I played the solo clarinet in high school..this was my favorite song. I thought I knew this piece inside and out then I find out today it's more correctly the Polovtsian Dances and not Polyvetsian. Ha, I guess since it was during the Cold War the publishers were wrapping it as quasi-Polynesian!

  • NO, stoptheplot. I'm sorry to have to say that you're wrong, and here's why:

The confusion regarding Polóvcian vs. Polovetsian has to do with a peculiarity in the Russian language (the 'fleeting e'), whereas the singular is "Polovjéc" (from which the term "Polovetsian" is derived), BUT the plural is "Polóvcïy". [I.e., the 'e' after the 'v' disappears!!]

Otherwise, a superb performance - lovely playing, singing and dancing (and I like the camera-work here very much!).

    5/5 stars

  • [NB, In case of any confusion, the letter 'c' in my Russian-transliteration system (unless followed by 'h' IMMEDIATELY after!) is always 'ts' as in 'bolts'.]

  • The dancing and the costumes are beautiful, but the camera cuts it into little tiny bits! I wish it would do what Balanchine did, and give us more full shots, showing composition. Let us enjoy the beauty.

  • So beautiful !!!

  • I'm learning how to play this for my grade 10 band D: at school

    i play the clarinet

and i have the solo part at 2:32

im extremly scared now cuase i have to play that fast sooner or later D:

  • these are polovtsians (kypchaks), the extinct turkic nation, they lived in the middle ages in the central asia

  • No, it's not extinct turkic nation - today it's kazakh

  • are those mongolians?

  • amazing !!!

  • excuse me, but i dont like the choir

  • Can you please tell us why? Thanks in advance!

[If it has anything to do with the sound, please remember that Russians don't automatically sound like Westerners, and nor should they!]
