@YodaMan19: i have the lenovo s10...upgraded it to 3GB...but only 2.5GB was recognized...but it made a helluva difference. startups was noticably faster. also helped in mutli tasking :)
I just purchased DDR2 800 2x2gb Kit= 4GB and Unfortunately the ASUS 1201N limits to 3.25 useable memory ?
Yes 64Bit OS win7 is needed and YES the 1201N CAN run 64 BIT os, HOWEVER the BIOS is not Updated by ASUS yet to run FULL 4GB (4096mb) support yet?
ALSO there is no 64BIT Driver support either?
AND the Atom 330 fsb is 533, therefore the ram is CAP at 533 of 800, but The ION can run the Ram at 800+ because its shared graphics. Something insain like 256+1343 = 1663 mb total mem!
I play Counter Stike ZERO I can get 50-60 FPS at 1024x 768/ 32bit max/ brighteness half/ gama 75%/ openGL/ full screen. With Fraps in the background on Stock Specs. After upgrading to 4GB (3.25gb usuable) I get 60+ fps! at one point 64! But still some odd legs.
I will try out Source and let you know I am in class right now...lol
I am like a computer noob but just asking I heard that this laptop can go up to 8gb ram but not going to get that many anyway. I am gonna choose 32bit therefore only support only 3.25 gb of ram or something like that. The question is that can I add another ram stick of 1gb on to this laptop? If yes is there a slot for the extra ram stick???
Ich denke die Firma Asus könnte sogar einer der ersten Firmen sein die die Brennstoffzelle in solch ein Gerät integriert um 24 Stunden Laufzeit zu gewährleisten.
@mobileandnotebook - it seems to be the going speed for all netbook's. Is that because it can't actually transfer at 1Gbit due to the bus or just a cost saving measure?
On the graphic it says "US $620" that is where he got that number from. 499 US in CAD would be about 520. When products aren't released yet they speculate the price which is almost never what it really is when it comes out but in Europe it'll probably be close to that pice.
Well, we'll see, but ION 2 won't be for Atom as the next gen Atom has integrated graphics into the CPU. However, if it works with the CULV platform things might be interesting, at least until Intel moves that platform to it's new Core processors with integrated graphics in the CPU as well...
@zilvetto this netbook has a dual core intel atom with an Nvidia ION which is equivalent to the 9400M. obviously this is such a better netbook then 1101ha
They SHOULD release a version of this EEE with the dual-core Atom model but WITHOUT the ION graphics, instead use Intel GMA and provide us with let's say ~7-8 hours of battery life. That would be a clever option, wouldn't it ASUS? :-)
I doubt if any of you would play games on it, as the CPU is still too weak to handle the new games and the small screen makes it even worse.
It's not really about gaming and a 12-inch screen isn't that small...
The advantage of ION is the ability to offload certain tasks to it, such as video encoding/transcoding/decoding and with Flash being able to take advantage of GPU's in the new Beta and hopefully in the upcoming release version, this makes a lot of sense.
This will have a lot better performance than the 1101HA, but that's the trade-off you'll have to make, performance or battery life. At least for now, we'll see how things work out in the future...
Some people don't need the video performance improvement! Either they release one, that has Intel GMA video AND a dual-core Atom; or i'm buying myself the 1101HA :-)
@mobileandnotebook the 3.2 on a dual atom scares me... thats awfully low for a dual core i am running the wind u230 under win 7 with a single core mv-40 amd and getting a 4.1 it looks like you may be better off waiting the few weeks for the congo powered 1201T dual core mv-40 neo from amd... but then you will also be trading some battery for performance as well
intel has the most advanced fab plants on earth but is very reluctant to change anything due to the enormous importance of their legacy compat (see: itanic) - they're very much like microsoft in that sense
amd is obviously the underdog but can be much more daring at times - intel just now integrated the northbridge into their chips, amd did that in like what, 02? amd bought ati back when intel scoffed at the notion of making a real gpu (lol prescott), and now that they have its x86 :P

so, you think the 3.25 isn't much of a difference for the 80 bucks or whatever it is?
I'm thinking i might need more to run Photoshop or similar software on the go

I was going to buy one of these until I read it only gets 40 fps in Counter Strike: Source.
That isn't playable IMO.
I am waiting till april for the ION 2 to come out, if that still isn't good I will probably spend twice as much and buy Alienware or Sony.
theneongray 1 year ago
please keep in mind that this is a NETBOOK.
the fact that it gets 40FPS in source is a major plus already.
