When you hammer on from 9 to 11 and then hammer off, are you getting three notes out of your hammer before the slap? (9-on, 11-on, 9-result of unhammering while string is still vibrating) I can't see your right hand so I can't tell if that is 1 strum or 2 strums for the three notes before the "slap".
I only get two notes with the hammer. Thanks for clarifying.
@computerbux Hmm.. I guess I don't think about it so much.. but yeah I see what you are saying... I get a 9-11hammer-9pulloff-up strum for the chorded notes, slap, rinse and repeat
Hello, this was one of the first songs I played so I can't remember how long it took. I just played it everyday. The strumming I use contains a lot of palm muting, it's not hard but takes practice. Thanks!
hey dude, your dmb tutes are rockin! Just have a little problemo....i'm kinda new to guitar and can't pick up your strumming/picking - can u do a tute on Dave Matthews strumming and picking patterns? Pleeeaase? :)
I have been pretty busy lately, but I'll try to get a video up eventually. In the meantime, you may want to check out some palm muting tutorials. I put heavy palm mute on these(probably too much). After learning some palm mute techniques, try using it on the bass notes in this song (the very first 4 notes) remember to hit them only on a down stroke, and miss all the strings on the upstrokes. (the upstrokes are still important!). Keep your strumming hand moving like a pendulum. Thanks.
I know this is a ton to ask but is there any way that you can do this again but show the strumming? I've been trying this now for 3 weeks and can't figure this out... Got all the fingering down.. just a matter of getting the timing of the strums..
He's got loads of palm muting going on--that's the cool chucka chuka chuka percussive sound all the way thru. Practice that for starters on any strumming song.
I love how when you ask these guys how long they've been playing, they're like, Oh, couple months or so. Actually I heard Matthews himself has only been playing for a year and a half--with the summer off.
You surprising got "douche" right. The "your" however, is a fifth grade mistake, yet expected. And your inability to assess humor is troubling. Perhaps politics is in your future? This is my last response--I apologize, mszorad, for mucking up your board. Your playing on this song is enviable.
Yeah um...I'm gonna muck it up just a bit more to point out that if you're gonna be the grammar police, at least be correct in your own post. i.e. What you meant to say was "you surprisingLY got douche right." just a little info from the office of internal affairs of the grammar police. please continue learning to play the music of one of the greats.
haha it always does. btw mszorad, this is a great vid. i spent an hour trying to hack my way through the tabs only to pick it up in 15 minutes after watching you. great job.
I highly recommend software that lets you slow down the song (I use Transcribe--Google it). I couldn't get the timing down on this one for the life of me, till I slowed it down to %50. Learned it and Granny in a freakin' day. Works great for solos too.
wow you are too good at this song holy shit

Nice job. What type of guitar are you using?
romanstennine 10 months ago
watching you play it makes me want to learn it more than dave matthews himself playing it (guitar-wise). Really cool playing.
My strumming is kinda shakey with a pick. Start slow and work up to speed i suppose?

Your palm muting is, might add, fantastic! You have a great command over the fret board with that intro lick. Cherio!
