Please stop fuzzing about Baritones that should sing Heldentenor. I prefer a good baritone to a bad tenor.
(On the other side: Yes, the 'real' Heldentenor stems from the high Baritone Fach and only over time ripens into a real Heldentenor with its ringing, effortless (!) height. But that species is very rare. Often it is advisable to continue as a good baritone with a pleasurable "Vordersitz" height.)
Everytime a baritone sings arias like "Largo al factotum" or "Si puo" people bitch about they are tenors. Nowdays voices are forced higher and higher. Like Basses to baritones, Baritones to tenors, altos to mezzos, mezzos to sopranos. Why??? This, ladies and gentlemen, is a baritone who can also sing high notes.
He has a nice voice but unfortunalely, he is not in controle of it! The capabilities he has and the space enable him to perform even better if he went through a real extensive training!
Teachers belives that a man who cannot sing notes above a G are BAritones. Is not ju st a question of notes anyway but you can listen that his vocie in the upper register gets more less of color tha the low register...this, to me, is a clear prove that he is giving color in a non natural way. Is hard to explain
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You can hear in his color that he's a baritone, and not every baritone has to sing like Leonard Warren to be one. It's funny how you like to label voices and yet you mention nothing about breaks in the voice, only color. Just because a baritone doesn't have a rich top like the typical "verdi baritone," it doesn't mean they're a tenor. If we go by your definition of baritone, I guess Keenlyside, Thomas Allen, and Quilico are all tenors.
Why do you think he is a tenor? For me he is a perfect Kavaliersbariton. Well educated in Passagio, not too dark in the high notes okay. But time of Bastianini and collegues is over-we have a new time. I am very interested to learn from your knowledge.
Because to me adjectives like Kavaliersbariton, Bariton MArtin, Lyric BAriton, Buffo Bariton, are just inventions of the teachers that did not knew what to to with a huge and dark tenor voice. That´s why nowdays teachers says that we had lack of voices, lack of spinto and dramatic tneor voices...the lack is of technique, the lack of good teachers. Bariton: Bastianini, Warren, Joseph Shore, Louise Quilico (His son is a Tenor to me too), Nelson Martinez, Manuel Ausensi.
Hi, Fach are made for Directors, for teachers, its not so interesting. This man is a bartione like Mazurok or Hrostovsky, a high baritone because of the baritonal parts in his timbre. He is not giving his timbre a darker colour as it naturely has. As you know, Bastianini sang for over 11 years as a Bass. So he's not a good example. What we cannot hear is , how big the voice is. Lyric Baritones like him, never can change to become a tenor. Structur of the timbre should be different for a change
really good!

What are you talking about?
You think he's a tenor because he has the G or because of his tone?

he do not knew how to deal with his "breaks"... that is why he had to sing as a bariton... and he is a good singer.
