  • I learned how to drive stick shift today, it wasn't too difficult.. I love driving it .. I have a 1994 Saab 900s pretty good car :)

  • the advertisement i got for this was a BMW transmission repair

  • a mini..I thought only middle-aged women bought these things? lol

  • i thought when in neutral you hold the brake down then slowly let up and give it gas while your in drive

  • why do that?it s so easy to drive a manual gear box car!

  • ur mini reminds me of a wrx

  • thanks man, getting my first car this weekend and its a manual, not even my dad could explain it, and he drives a semi truck...

  • very helpful, thanks for the upload!

  • Very helpful! thank you!

  • you driving slower than James May :D

  • Comment removed

  • good job! is there a youtube tutorial on how to drive a coach?

  • this is actually so helpful....

  • dude what car is that?

  • @dicedogg241 mini cooper

  • Oh thanks FILO RULES!

  • where did you have the mic man? the muffler?

  • @longer757 No, not unless you are in neutral, which isn't in gear. You have to have the clutch fully in to completely stop without stalling if you are in gear, but you can only take off in first.

  • can you come to a complete stop in gear with ought pushing in the clutch? thanks

  • @longer757 no, the car will stall. if its in gear and you are coming to a stop, either push the clutch down or put it in neutral

  • oh never mind

  • do you have to push the the brake??

    to change gear?

  • @jovaniie if you're gonna stop or slow down than yes.

  • @831NorCal2424 No press the brake first and before you stop press the clutch so you dont stall :)

  • when shifting into like second, is lik when you take off, like you hav to evenly realse clutch and press gas or can you hit clutch shift into 2nd and thn realese clutch completly thn hit gas?

  • OMG THANK YOU!!!

  • Do you let your foot all the way off the gas when shifting?

  • @kmann1994 yes

  • the way to move the car is let out the clutch a bit until the rpm drops. once it drops, start putting gas and than let out the clutch

  • this must be the most shocking thing I've seen, regarding driving!!

So, there are cars without clutches there? Are they easier to drive?

I need to travel around the world more.

  • when is the best time to switch gears?

  • @ThatFoolChrisDailey

youll hear the engine rev and struggle to keep gain speed, thats when you want to switch

  • dud eomg u helped me soo much!!!!! im only 14 but i wanna have a stick for my first car... an s2000 to be exact :D <3 but anyways, thanks so much!

  • thank you so much

  • Best video.

  • heyy how do u do the two screen video can u tell me please

  • FYI Soggy Rice - you can't burn out the clutch if you hold the clutch in. Burning the clutch requires friction - there's no friction when you're holding it in. Don't be a bullshitter.

  • @matthmatthmatth He's partly correct, actually. The more RPM you have the moment you engage the clutch the more it burns. Braking or engine braking before engaging the clutch drops the RPM and reduces burn.

  • @RoadkillRaccoonProd Ok, which response are you directing this comment at? I wrote 3 replies here, you need to be specific.

  • @matthmatthmatth Your latest.

  • @RoadkillRaccoonProd you need to be giving the engine gas to burn the clutch..

  • @johnnyostrawb33ry The gas is not what burns the clutch, the friction caused my differing revs is. The more your engine and gear revs differ when you disengage the clutch the more you burn it. If your gears are moving slowly and you rev your car up, and then engage the gears (for example hard launch), your clutch burns.

Then again braking without the clutch for as long as possible is also fuel efficient on a longer scale.

  • @RoadkillRaccoonProd Ah, ok.

I was understanding his comment that you don't want to hold the clutch in while sitting at a red light. The car is idling. If you place the car into neutral and let out the clutch, there's no issue. It's the lowest RPM you can get.

    Maybe there's a misunderstanding here?

  • @matthmatthmatth Probably. Yeah, just engaging the clutch while waiting at the lights etc. is no problem, as the clutch is fully engaged and doesn't hang on to the gears. That won't do a thing for it.

  • @scenejbz You can slow down and keep the clutch engaged - don't give bad advice.

  • 2579 Americans found this helpfull

  • @Rapparn11 and 125 still dont get it lolz

  • lol do this many people struggle with stick?

  • if you push in the clutch and hold it down, that means its basically neutral , but how does it burn the clutch if you hold the clutch pedal down as you remained stopped, just wondering thats all lol, nice video

  • @XxGJFxX esta.ensenando.a manejar

  • funny how americans have no clue how to drive manual transmission

  • Comment removed

  • This video is a terrible excuse for a "How To" guide. Please people don't use this as a guide! Ask somebody you know who drives a manual transmission, or look up an industry recognized instructor's video guide!

  • um... how can holding your hand on the gearlever ruin it?

  • @Beqpe Have you ever driven an automobile, that had a loose gear stick knob? HERPA DERP

  • @sethrogarrow ummm, no? Most people in sweden knows how to drive properly

  • You contradicted yourself. First you said don't keep it in gear because it will wear out your clutch. So you said put it in neutral.

  • @ATLcameron neutral isn't a gear

  • @respect1515able Did I say it was a gear? NO

  • Also, I gotta compliment your driving skills judging by your other videos. I find it awesome how you're good enough with a manual transmission to perfectly illustrate all the things you SHOULDN'T do. haha

  • Great video, very helpful, and I gotta say I'm diggin' the wheels. I love mid-2000's Minis, and I'm looking for a used one myself.

Mini with a manual transmission = Proper automobile.

  • i let the clutch out kinda slowly till i start seeing rpms dropping then i give it gas while the clutch is still coming out..

  • ALGUIEN ME DICE QUE ES LO QUE HACE ESTE PENDEJO POR QUE LO UNICO QUE VEO ES QUE LA PUTA DE SU MADRE ARIA MEJOR LOS CAMBIOS

  • did you pass your driving test first time?

  • automatic is dangerous, because you don't know the ratio between the accelerartion and how much you should push the pedal, this ratio changes from gear to gear. but in Manual you have the total control of your car

  • @brahim121985brahim - Automatic is dangerous? Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?

I find that for sub-2-litre cars, I would rather shift the gears myself, but in cars above about 2.5 litres, it gets harder and harder to justify getting a manual. Most modern automatics work well with bigger sixes and V8s, and I don't think I could do a better job with a shift lever and clutch pedal.

  • @JBofBrisbane I agree. For larger automobiles with big engines, automatic is the way to go, but for small cars with small engines, I'd much rather have control over the gears.

Prime example: My aunt has a 2003 Cooper with an automatic transmission, and I really don't like it. When starting at red lights the car has a tendency to jerk if you don't give it the perfect amount of gas. Meanwhile, my friend has a 2004 Cooper with a five-speed that he let me drive, and it was wonderful. So smooth.

  • @pacmanghostx yes for small engines the "how much" giving the gas changes from gear to gear, and that's really disturbing in automatic

  • Good showing for ppl who doesn't have any experience with manual transmission. Thank you.

  • I have a question: do you let go of the clutch a little first, then give gas to get moving, or do you give it gas first, and then start to let go of the clutch? I'm a 17 year old learning how to drive stick...

  • @PSNBOB580 Give it a little gas before releasing the clutch

  • @PSNBOB580 let out of the clutch a little first then give it gas i will be making a video on this after the first of the year

  • @N4ANE Thanks, that was what I was thinking, I tried using the gas first, but it feels like it takes more precision. I'm gonna give it a try.

  • @PSNBOB580 Also that helps when you start off on a hill in traffic

  • @N4ANE Thank you, it really is much easier this way :)

  • Do you even know what a transmission is

  • your soo stupid standerd is stick dumass

  • @MrCritch1999 never mind

  • do u press the clutch the whole way to break or wat

  • @831NorCal2424 yes you need to press the clutch ALL the way down and then slowly press the brake to come to a stationary position. if you want to just slow down, just let your foot off the gas and press the brake slowly, you only need to press the clutch all the way down to come to a stop sign etc, hope this helped

  • @831NorCal2424 if you brake in neutral you dont have to touch the clutch.

  • @831NorCal2424 Why is this comment so highly rated? It's written poorly, makes no sense, and obviously shows how many ignorant americans don't know the first thing about driving stick.

  • @matthmatthmatth

Why am I ignorant for not knowing how to drive stick? I never even had a chance to learn it.

  • @831NorCal2424 ok ill try keep this simple my friend, you only need to use the clutch when your in gear and the car is not rolling at all

if you let go of the gas whilst rolling you will not have to use the clutch unless the car comes to a complete stop which will result in your car stalling(engine turning off).

most drivers press the clutch as there coming to a stop so yes you would use the clutch all the way to break

  • @831NorCal2424 if you are shifting or COMPLETELY stopping you fully put in the clutch

  • I know how to drive a stick... but how do you get your shoe laces so perfect? Please follow up with a video tutorial.

  • Good vid for someone who has never driven a stick. It's really difficult teaching an adult who's only driven an automatic for 20+ years, and has hardly even ridden in a manual-shift car. One mistake they make is that they keep their foot mashed on the go-pedal while trying to shift. In 30 years, it'll be a lost art -- like using a choke to start a car. Sad, really.

  • Like the imitation at 6:38

  • heeey a minicooper! i remember playboy models posing on one of those. totally rad!

  • the clutch clutches the transmission flywheel to put the car in the next gear... hahahaha

  • Maybe you should re title this video, How NOT to drive stick...

  • totally un-developed video

  • Thanks for the helpful videos!

  • stick shift the muther

  • hahah i thought that driving with stick is was some term for something cool, but its just the stick, forgot that Americans learn how to drive automaticly ownly, in my country, its not often you see people drive auto.. lol

  • @nopp1 yes us americans are lazy.

  • @str8tballa whaha youll learn it, it aint that hard after time

  • Question: Do you have to push the clutch pedal all the way back in order to shift gears?

Does the same thing apply for downshifting?

  • @SUSPECTvsSUCCESS Yes, otherwise you will feel that shifting would be really rough, like there is a wall blocking it

  • This is the first time i have been driving in a Mini.

  • what road so you use for your vids?

  • thanks for the vid...still don't think i can do it though : (

  • how do you shift gears without making the car jerk as much???

  • you should downshift into second gear always when your slowing down or whatever gear is suitable to avoid using too much braking. use the engine to slow down when going down hills not the brakes, thats the main advantage of a manual car

  • imagine all the girls looking this vid because of the title: How to drive stick

  • wow, pipmasterzach is a dick.

  • what is this?cum sa conduci pentru ncepatori?

  • i put my car in first gear but i didn't start rolling.. is there a problem with my car ?

  • @EgyptianHash92 you need to realease the clutch.. not fully but half, and put a little gas on it

  • it wont burn your clutch out if you hold in the clutch stoped the clut plate doesnt contact the flywheel when the clutch pedal is depressed....

  • can you make a video like going up hill on a red light when you stop like how you have to balance it

  • @calikusssh23 I usually use handbrake if uphill is big so you don't have to worry about switching pedals with your foot. The rest is pretty self explanatory.

  • also.. how the fuck do u burn ur clutch if u clutch when ur moving..? the only thing that would happen if you clutch before braking is your engine will rev to a higher rmp u god damn goofus holy fuck

  • @CurryProd perhaps you'd like to make a better video?

    .. didn't think so

  • @CurryProd he made a newer vid that corrects himself

    you dick...

  • @CurryProd yeah cuz ur video is sooooo muich better

  • @Mari0Bros4 calm the fuck down downer.. all i said was hes wrong and he shouldent be making videos if he doesent know that the clutch disengages the power of the engine to the gears..

  • @CurryProd ass i will throw that curry on your face

  • @CurryProd He drives a mini, leave him alone!

  • Easy to learn. Thank you.

    This is good video.

  • Okay i have a question. So i break by first pushing the cluth then putting it on Neutral and then breaking. Is that incorrect way of doing it or can you still do it without damaging anything?

  • do you remove our foot from gas when you chang the geer speed?

  • @rusk0v205 yes

  • how do you know when to change gears ??

  • @killstreak72 If you understand the engine you can hear when to change the gears. Or watch the rpm.....

  • @killstreak72 you'll know by the sound. Also by the speed. You can't really explain, you'll just see :D

  • @killstreak72 You can hear , and the RPM will get in the high levels .

  • omg im a filipino too, and ur driving my dream car haha. thanks for the vid, I'm still learning how to drive

  • oolly shit thanks man!!!

  • me japnese, me not dumb, i drive stick shift like a chumb

  • basically it makes it move... what? clutch??

  • Minis are beast

  • يعطيك الصحة يا خويا

  • mini cooper FTW :D

  • :50 the clutch doesnt move the car..

  • i watch all your movie and is really helpfull what you teach, but you forgot something , how to handle the weel , because you do not dooing it right .... excuse me for my bad english. good luck

  • Should tell people that its not manditory to downshift when going lower speeds you can be going 40 in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear its just the gas has less effectiveness the higher you go, but the fuel efficiency gets better at the same time which is why Manual is better than automatic because you control your mpg, early 90's cars have up to 47 mpg when driving conservative.

  • really good video!

  • lol ami bringt handschaltung bei

lol an american show how to drive manual

  • THank you! This really helped me!

  • Driving manual transmission is for lazy losers! Oh wait... I mixed the two up again!

  • how do i do this and drink my coffee at the same time

  • it wont burn out your clutch if u keep it in.

  • if you cant manage a manual you should not be driving

  • I am a paraplegic with no use of my legs and i know i can drive stick better then you. If you want to teach someone to drive stick take them to the biggest hill you can find and make them get the car moving forward without touching the gas. Pressing the gas is the biggest fault when teaching someone to drive stick. they generally use to much gas and launch the car. Every time you stop you don't want to be in gear. it is easier to control the break and hand brake then it is the clutch andtheshift

  • are u driving a manual car...?

  • @zaydeeable Neverrrrrrrrrr

  • @joeterry162 LOOOL i had my lessons pretty hard uno....hows driving lessons

  • @zaydeeable WHAT THE FUCK NO SHIT HE IS!!

  • @TheAlphaFaction what you on about it dont make sense what you said..:S

  • u have a nice car

  • AWESOME VIDEO Thank you very much. I really needed this!

  • basically im just talking shit throughout the video

  • ITS FUNNY BECAUSE ASIANS HAVE SMALL DICKS

  • @socknessmonsterjr2 really mature stupid fuck.

  • When switching gears do you stop giving it gas?

  • @HaloHamstur Are you serious?

  • @MarreLirre Thought over it and yeah guess you keep the gas down if you let go wouldnt make much sense to shift...

  • @HaloHamstur You release the gas when you're shifting gears, else the RPM will rise very fast

  • @HaloHamstur yes

  • @HaloHamstur yeh

  • Comment removed

  • wow, you really have absolutely no automotive knowledge.

  • @PimpMasterZach Thanks!
