eSATAp (eSATA/USB) is found in 40% of the notebooks.
2ndly. Implementing eSATAp on a desktop/Mac pro simply requires a USD12 Delock Bracket. ZERO driver. No need AHCI BIOS tweak. eSATAp is hotplug too (with Windows 7 or Hotswap! software) - Fusioncat eSATAp Support Group.
wouldnt you be interrested in discussing the merging of these three standards? for instance: give it two or three years, and everything will be usb3, instead of still upgrading three separate standards.
Is this idiot in a rush or something? Think about this , the people that get on TV for a living speak slow so people can understand what they are saying . IF they spoke fast this they would not last two minutes ,so why would this guy talk so fast on camera which is not a good thing...The only thing I can think why is, he may not know what he is talking about and covers it up with 300 words a second..OR this maybe it ..He is very nervous in front of a camera
Rodney, you need to do your viewers justice and give REAL WORLD examples rather than quoting specs.
Find me a USB2 Drive that does 60MB/s (480Mbps) when copying data ONE WAY like most users do.
The fact of the matter is that when your copying files to or from a USB drive, the fastest transfer rate your going to get is about 31MB/s with 35MB/s peak transfer. Thats a huge bottleneck for SATA drives.
FireWire800 or eSATA would be much better choices for fast use of your external drives.
yes,dude...but whoever wants to edit videos [which is lately alot of us], just cannot use a USB2, in order to sample video to his PC. only firewire :]
I am writing this comment for your assistance and your knowledge for many things.
I am starting up a video review channel, similar to yours reviewing hardware for computers. but the problem is i do not know how to contact the right people to do a review, how to set up the review. and many other things.
they should just keep it simmple and just come out with usb 3.0, totaly common universal port, and at 600MB/s that s more than enough, 2 drives in raid 0 gives you 150-300 MB/s at the most
USB 3 will be fast, but we'll be back in the days of 1.1 and 2.0 - we'll spend months trying to plug 3.0 drives into 1.0 ports and wondering why it's slow
"A. eSATA is the fastest, but USB is the most practical."
I've said it before and I'll say it again: No one likes FireWire! =p
So far the gossip concerning USB3 is certainly interesting and those speeds would revolutionize the industry, I wonder just how expensive it'll be to upgrady to the new standard: motherboards, peripherals, possible even a new case for good measure.
PS - To all Firewire enthusiasts, yes I was joking.

Bawls is the preferred beverage among gamers and at LAN parties. However, my drink of choice would be Monster Khaos or M-80 (especially the jumbo format).
Forgot to mention USB speeds are theoretical top speeds and CPU intensive while FireWire is not CPU Intensive and it really runs at those rated speeds all the time. Hope FireWire replace USB as a standard. FireWire 400 is soo much faster then USB 2.0 480 on all my systems. I suspect USB 3 will be the same story. Some great speeds specs that you will never see it hit.
firewire is used allot in creative industry, IE many GOOD Audio intefaces use firewire and many Digital Camera/camcorders use firewire. i personally owuld get a USB2.0 exclusive external HDD but wqould go with Firewire, as it give realist speed that can written to by real time aplications like those used to record audio.

Thanks rodney, i'll buy one with the USB port. I wish I could connect it to the router and make a server.

Hi Bro! good work! BTW, use the Delock eSATAp cable. it is USB compatible & can even power up a 3.5" HDD/SSD or a 5.25" DVD-RW.
eSATAp is still now faster than USB 3. Why eSATAp? Zero driver, no need BIOS AHCI or OS reg tweak. Simply plug & play with a delock bracket.

different technologies...

it always is using the speed of the slowest connection in the link, so if you use a faster firewire to slower usb is uses the usb speed.

Similar to every drive though, the limiting speed is generally not the interface, but the drive itself.

Firewire really isn't that great. USB 2.0 is not much slower but is far more convinient. Also e-SATA is faster than firewire.
