In some cases even some upgradable computers will reach the end of the line. I have upgraded my 8 year old compaq desktop as far as I can so now it has become disposible cause it can't be upgraded any further. This can happen to any other computer. Cell phones are not upgradable at all. I think that it would be nice for manufacer companies like Dell, hp etc. should offer some kind of discount or trade in program for consumers it would be easier for them to dospose or recycle the old stuff.
I am actually STILL using the case from one of my first PCs. I simply replace the mobo, processor, power supply, etc. But yeah - you do have to get rid of some old tech now and then.
