They are called linear because all notes are of the same value.

i.e. everything is equally spaced.

Jojo Mayer pawns all, I have never seen any other drummer master every hand technique and foot technique I have ever encountered or heard of.....and on top of that he is completely self-taught. He is one of those drummers that makes you want to give up completely lol. If you are a drummer and you have his dvd, you will know what im talking about.
