@purity778 Couldn't agree with you more. Missing out great bands like death and the glory days of bands such as slayer, megadeth and of course maiden!
@kjer0nanny0slut fuck man, i love MEGADETH and unfortunately i missed them live :( i love the majority of their albums, though! and death is a fucking sick band :D so is slayer \m/>.<\m/
No matter what kind of metal you prefer, Maiden unites us all as headbangers. They are like a warm, awesome bar where everyone meets up and drink beer and sing all night long! Hell Yeah!
This song takes me back to the early 80's running around the neighborhood in my levi jacket, walkman in pocket, chamber pipe, mullet, and the smell of Brut to try and cover up the smell. This album was one of my all time favorites.
Anyone else here from the UK find it strange seeing an American saying "up the irons"... do you think they actually know who the "Irons" are?! GO LA GALAXY!
Yes, there are Americans who know who Maiden is, me being one of them. So don't start saying how it's strange that Americans are saying "Up the Irons". And you know what? UP THE IRONS!
@Maidennumber1forever Lmfao, you've just proved my point, that infact, you have no idea who The Irons are!!! 'Irons' gives reference to their favourite football team... West Ham United - who are known as The Irons. Thanks for proving my point.
@TheNecroluster No, was just wondering if Americans actually know who 'The Irons' are and where it comes from. Clearly they don't (see comment below). The Irons are Iron Maidens favourite football (soccer to you) team, West Ham United, who are known as, you guessed it, The Irons.

for some reason i spent alot of time looking for "iron maiden - the old man and the sea", when it was really called "iron maiden - the rime of the ancient mariner" ...
finally found it using "iron maiden longest song"
I just had to write a paper on this story. I hated reading it, I hate my professor because she's pretentious and is very boring. It shows the power of a band when they can take something as boring and all over the place as this story and make it fucking awesome with music. UP THE IRONS!
I have one thing to say for 500,000 views, Thank God, I feel like a youtube celebrity! Nah, but it's nice to know that so many people can connect with one song, and with thatt, I say thank you to all my viewers, now, to a million!
@remotenightowl I seen them play this live 5th row center in milwaukee wisconsin Dec 19th 1984 Mecca Arena. It was killer. whole show just rocked start to finish but although i really like this song. It's not my favorite Maiden tune. But it was my favorite one they played that night. to see them to this live was f*cking epic. the guitar solos went on and on.It just totally rocked.Twisted sister opened for them.Maiden made them look silly
@smithdsmit Agreed i seen them in Michigan in 92 It was the Fear Of The Dark tour the shirts were so cool as with Twisted Sister they sucked big time.A cool concert would be Maiden,Priest,Sabbath bak in the early eighties. The heavy metal bands are still some Chick with dicks shit the makeup and fag clothing. Not like the three i mentioned the only makeup would be visine for the eyes.I will never waiver from the true heavy rock from the past,This is a long journey home tune.Maiden Canada
I remember when this album came out in '84. I came home late half drunk and turned the radio on and they played THIS song. This was the first song I heard from Powerslave and it's still my favorite track on the record. When was the last time you heard an almost fourteen minute song on the radio? This was back when radio was still good. UP THE IRONS!!
@karatechimp1 That's not even the greatest moment in this song...and besides, greatest moment for musical history goes to the climax of The Manifold Curiosity by Kayo Dot.
Ugggh. Why must there be so many people bagging Di'Anno and Blaze. They're BOTH good. Not AS good, still good. And ffs, to those who say Di'Anno has nothing on Bruce, but Bruce can't touch Phantom of the Opera. That alone makes Di'Anno amazing.
when i was in high school ..instead of reading the story ...our teacher handed out the lyrics then played the song for the class....i think it was the only time the metalheads got a better grade than the geeks
@dickram227 Cool story. I was out of school and serving in Germany in 1982-84 and I went to a concert I believe it was called oh yeah... The Monsters of Rock! There I heard Run to the Hills and Number of the Beast in concert. All I can say is "Iron Maiden ruled Europe" Rock On from B.A.Badax
@dickram227 wow thats cool that your teacher played this for the class.makes me feel old.Well, I am old.I seen maiden on the powerslave tour in 1984. I was 18 at the time. it was great
@smithdsmit back in 84 ..i was just 7yrs old but i saw maiden when they did the reunion tour when Bruce rejoined the band...that was an amazing fukin show....i don't think it can compare to the original powerslave tour but people that were there said it was close...what a great nite
@dickram227 I bet it was a great show.iron maiden may be older. but they have held up.Dickenson still sounds great and the rest of the band have proably gotten better.Only thing proably better in 84 then now is the fact that you could party more without getting busted and the band ran around on stage alot more. But i think they still sound great.I hope i get a chance to see them again.doesnt seem like they play the states much anymore
@potcheese1 the albatross is making her sail, dude. It's the curse. c'mon, its in the freakin poem for crying out loud. How can you people love this song not even knowing what it's based off of??

@IgnacioBuenosnachos well of course jesus loves this song...he jams 2 it everyday-if he didnt he wouldnt be jesus! lol right on i totally agree with you
i see this all the time, unless you have years and years of listening to rock music and to hundreds of bands. You don't know what you are talking about.
Why do people have to pick bands over others. I love Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Testament, Pantera, Mastodon, Hammerfall, DragonForce, Rhapsody of Fire. They are all great. Its music just listen to it if you like it. If you don't then stfu.
So, thought of another Maiden question for u guys. Would it be cool if Maiden did a tour with all of there past lead singers, and then during the set, have each singer only sing the songs they where a part of during the set, let me know what u think...
I don't think Blaze sucked although he certainly wasn't as good as the other two. I think though a few of his songs were rather good, and best with him singing. Although from what I heard he was a dick live.
@BlackToothMetal I don't think Blaze was as bad as he's made out to be, his singing wasn't that bad on the songs he helped do, but he just couldn't do Bruces' songs justice. If Blaze had come before Bruce he would be looked at the same way Paul is.
And I thought Iron Maiden couldn't get any more awesome ...

@remotenightowl i like it it would be a great chance for people who got into maiden late to hear the old singers

@remotenightowl No, Blaze was horrible for Maiden and Paul sounds awful now, plus his personality sucks, drinking, drugs, etc.

@remotenightowl what would be better is if they all had different verses they did 0.0 so its madden mayhem

Dont think that would be a good idea because i'm pretty sure Paul Dianno is in jail for tax evasion and Blaze Baley just plain sucked
