spuds, i lived there 10 years ago and there are 3 drawbridges still complete with cannon and cannon balls for protecting the bridges that allow crossing the original moat. it looks like a canal to you but you obviously don't see this stuff as you must not know what you are looking at? there are still the original fortifications at the center of the town...this didn't stop the invaders from Spain but slowed them down a bit....yeah the moat looks just like another canal now.

Vivi em Leiden durante 6 meses e posso dizer-te que existem muitas influências espanholas, remetendo à data em que a holanda esteve sob governação espanhola. Mas quiçá também há influências luso-brasileiras. No entanto posso dizer-te que existem uma grande comunidade brasileira na Holanda, e pareceu-me que está muito concentrada em Rotterdam.

the place is excellent! lots of bicycles and the people do alot of recycling.there is museums,castles,moates around the place with drawbridges,stone paved roads,doors still in use from 12th century. good beer too.

Leiden heeft wel leuke stukjes, dat zeker. maar Leiden wordt steeds moderner en je ziet steeds vaker nieuwbouw, ook in het centrum. jammer maar ik ken wel mooiere steden in NL.
