Great vid. Totall agree on the Weihenstephaner hefe. The store right down the street from where I live just replaced their stock of Warsteiner with Weihenstephaner and I've been drinking it nonstop ever since. Very difficult to go back to drinking foul tasting American lagers now despite the price difference.
hey i tasted this kapuziner yesterday, found it very well balanced but not as complex as let say the schneider weisse weizenhell... you should also do a review on the paulaner hefeweizen the schofferhofer and the hofbrau hefeweizen.. theyre very good but ill have to go with the schneider weizenhell delicuous
in the german style there´s more bannana and phenolic notes, but no, other than that and the place they come from there is no difference also the ABV ratio is equal from 4 to 7 abv
german beer is the best, can't stand the american or british.. we call it "pisse", sorry :P
try "tannenzäpfle", it comes out of the area i live, i really like it. not a big company or well known, not even in germany but its a little special tipp ;)
All those flavors are really components of the german hefe yeast. The banana flavors become more pronounced when fermenting at a slightly higher temperature, creating more fruity esters, As you mentioned. The phenol and clove flavors are more interchangable. I personally consider phenol's to be a more of a spicy note, which you can also experience in many belgians ales as well.
Meanwhile, cloves to me seem more like a light combination of bubblegum and string beans. It sounds weird, but give it a try. The flavor profile I think is accurate.
hey guys. as always enjoyed the video, but i have a question--it was said the tucher (my personal second favorite hefe) has all three flavors you'd expect: banana, phenol and clove. i always thought the clove was the effect of the phenols, and the banana a result of esters. what is the distinction between the clove and phenol you're describing?
You guys are fucking badass. My only criticism is : you guys always agree on the thumbs up and down. Maybe it just means that you guys are right but it also makes it seem less believeable because different people DO have different preferences. Don't take it as an insult, it's just an observation. Keep doing what you're doing, though, you guys pwn.
i lived in germany for over ten years and tasted the best local and national brews that were available at that time, as for calling you guys boobs, hey boobs are not a bad thing tiddies and beer my young friends tiddies and beer
Yeah sure buddy. You ever had a weihenstephaner? That sorta was the best hefe we rated. Find me a better one or shut the fuck up. Thanks for watching though.
You have no idea man, Hefeweizen Bier is served always in special glasses, not like yours, because Hefe needs to be stirred in advance, have a look at my real video
Yeah, this is a point we didn't address in the quick video. We decanted the beers in glasses off-screen before-hand in order to get all the yeasty goodness these beers offer, and then we poured them into our tasting glasses for the tasting.
These beers were decanted to mix the yeast before we poured them into our tasters. The yeast and the flavors it imparts are one of the best parts about Hefes and we wouldn't be satisfied to leave the yeast in the bottle I promise you that.
god. I know these guys know their stuff, but a really fucking stupid girl I know pretends to know shit about beer/wine. Her condescending manner towards understanding subtle notes, with such achievements as talking about how much she 'loves the body of Arbor Mist' have ruined beverage reviews.
Keep it up, I just automatically assume people talking about beers are assholes.
Due to the wild success of this video, we are planning a second Hefeweizen review and you can be sure that Paulaner's and Franziskaner's will definitely be in there. But I must say Weihenstephaner's was a really great beer.
I enjoy Tucher the most myself.

Ayinger Bräu-Weisse is also great, but slightly more watery compared to Weihenstephaner.

Nice call guys. Weihenstephaner is my favorite Hefeweiss. It's so balanced and well crafted. Just bought the Hefeweiss Dunkel. Excited to try that!

How about putting the yeast in the glass as well? You dudes will need Weizengläser for this... they don't exist by chance.

Good calls all around. I agree. If you want to have a very drinkable American Hefe, try Bozone Hefeweizen form Bozone Brewery Bozeman, Montana.
