  • What a great vid promoting a great cause!! :D #isupport

  • how the hell do you dislike this?

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO - BRAVO TO ELIZABETH BANKS FOR DOING THIS - WELL DONE BY ALL INVOLVED! USING HUMOR TO GET A SERIOUS POINT ACROSS - FANTASTIC JOB!!!!!

  • I'm more upset at how they make light and humor of such a serious and potentially life threatening situation. Not to mention it turning out to be an iphone commercial.

  • i love edited version

  • Apparently people are upset that this doesn't include men?

Just to inform: Heart attacks are generally distinctly different between men and women. Both definitely go through denial, so it's important to inform. But it's also important to use separate methods so each gender can know what their own signs & symptoms look like. (For example: men generally feel it in their chest, women generally in the middle of their back) So that's why this is geared toward women! A very smart idea!

  • @Mystefier Katie Couric has been all over prostate cancer for years. I don't think there is any need to be upset that people are advocating awareness of something. This isn't for funding so much as it is a MESSAGE to get checked out! Women are reminded to do breast exams, so we do. My husband & many men I know REFUSE to have colon exams, despite knowing how important it is.Heart attacks for men are much more painful, they call 911 faster & may survive. Women need to know the signs.

  • When the tow-truck dropped me off at home after my car accident, I decided to wait for my eldest to get home so that I would have company at the hospital, but I made sure to tidy-up the house since my in-laws were coming over to take care of my other 3 kids. That's what moms do...

  • so true...♥

  • Heart disease is the #1 killer of EVERYONE in America. Not just women.

And why? Lousy diet. Lack of exercise. Too much caffeine, too much sugar.

Keep moving. Eat a balanced diet. No soda. Lean protein. Lots of fruits and vegetables. Easy on the carbs. Exercise. ANY exercise is better than none. Take a far parking spot instead of circling for 5 minutes (save gas too!)

  • Awesome! Very Well Done!

  • Take away the kids and replace with dogs and a mother who was hosting her church group at your house and a husband with Dementia, add actual throwing up, and ta da! My exeperience exactly...except I took an aspirin and drove self to hospital ER.

  • Folks, the point is that women tend to ignore their own health putting everyone else first~ Most men tend to ignore health warnings- if it weren't for a concerned [nagging] wife /mother /daughter /girlfriend~ I am grateful to the celebrities and millionaires out there who care enough about issues to get involved and do some good!! Maybe it would be better to celebrate and elevate the scientists and doctors in our society instead of the 'Jersey Shore' cast, and Paris Hilton pseudo-celebs!

  • Definitely a different way to educate people about the signs and symptoms of a heart attack!

My grandfather died of his second heart attack at 52, after continuously insisting that 'he was okay' when he was displaying symptoms when he and my grandmother were out shopping. I think EVERYONE should be educated on the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, but even if this video is primarily geared toward women, it's still quite educational.

  • Nice... but she shouldn't have said I am ok.

  • @cscdigitalgraphics Have you ever had a heart attack yourself? Ask the folks on this board who have had a heart attack how many times during the period of time when they were having a heart attack that they said "I'm okay." My guess, more than once...

  • or B) they develop a marketing campaign. There's no need to get all bent out of shape just because your favorite form of cancer doesn't have a good marketing campaign.

  • Maybe if prostate cancer research got James Franco to shoot a short, funny video about finding out he has prostate cancer, it would get the kind of money it needs. The reason why some cancer research gets more money and more attention than others is due to 1 or two reasons: either A) a celebrity has the disease or cares enough about the disease to alert their fans who then alert their friends and spread the message that way,

  • For all of you who are all up in arms about the fact that heart disease is the number one killer of everyone, prostate cancer kills men but doesn't get the funding, blah blah blah, maybe you should take it upon yourself to come up with a clever marketing strategy for prostate cancer or heart disease in men. Elizabeth Banks is a famous woman who cares about alerting women to the warning signs of a heart attack.

  • I loved this!!!

  • I propose we organize a Wear Tie-Dye For Men event. After all, men are #1 when it comes to dying. Last time I checked men still die five years younger than women and have higher death rates for the ten leading causes of death. Let’s call for men and women to wear a t-shirt with at least ten colors on it to work, one for each cause of death that men die more often from. I’m sure it would get attention.

Original source: Jay Hammers at Spearhead . com

  • @Mystefier " why not 'Go Red for Everyone?" Of course men should be supported. The AHA has many different campaigns. This happens to be the one for Women. For years heart attacks/heart disease were thought to be a 'mans problem'. Women don't think it could happen to them and ignore symptoms.

Men don't think they can get breast cancer but they can. Same with women and heart issues. It's not 'screw men' it's 'women be aware'. It could happen to one's wife/mom as easily as husband/dad.

  • This video saved my mothers life! She was sent this about a month before her own heart attack and she has about the same symptoms. Mt mother is not the typical hear patient...she is a healthy weight, no smoking, no drinking, no heart problems in our family history, and has amazing cholesterol levels. If she would have not seen this I don't think she would be here today! Thank you so much!

  • so well done and so representative of the typical "do it all Mom". Well done Elizabeth Banks.

  • lolwtf, the kid thinks his mom is having a heart attack so instead of getting help he gives her warning signs and leaves?

  • OMG to the people complaing on this cute clip..lighten up- don't have a heart attack geez

  • This is amazing first of all but if someone could tell me why we have take everything in our world and divide it in terms of gender thanx. Fact is heart disease and stroke is the number one killer of all people men and woman so why does this ad pretend like the fact it kills woman is special. I fear this kind of mentality will lead to a gender divide with female heart disease research being preferred. PS Im a female researcher and see a lot of waste particularly in breast cancer research.

  • Whats scary is using gender division to Politicize donations and research, money should go to the illnesses we can cure and let researchers decide which, medications, procedure are most promising . I have seen so much money wasted on completely frivolous testing and ludicrous theories because breast cancer has the most money, now its going to female based heart disease. Gender has NOTHING to do with heart disease or stroke. Their is NO difference accept men die earlier and more often from it.

  • I hate when people call each other uneducated you have no idea who I am or what i am about. i support ALL research and incollege in the late 90s I worked in research doing preop breast cancer screening research, working with homeopathy and all sort sof different specialists the fact is a lot of money was tied up for the sole purpose of breast cancer bot anything else and there were MANY projects that needed to be done in heart disease that werent being done while we wasted out time!!!

  • @cgfrap I don't have a problem with the video until the very end when they say, "Go Red for Women." Why not "Go Red for Everyone"? What's the purpose in excluding men? No people would not complain if they showed a man getting a heart attack, but they would complain if someone took a disease that affects men and women and said, "Care about it because it effects men." That would be considered sexist, wouldn't it?

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT The issue here is that women often discount their symptoms, and the stress that can exacerbate heart issues. Moms aren't allowed to be sick. They are on the job 24/7. The phone call to 911 was a poignant moment- "I'm sorry to bother you..." Because far too many women are taught, directly or indirectly, that asking for help is bothering someone else. And that attitude can be fatal.

  • @elloraluna But men have a worse record for neglecting their health. They also have shorter life expectancies than women, which I think is probably because men are considered more expendable and less concern and awareness exists for mens health. More men die of prostate cancer than women of breast cancer, yet it gets very little attention because "oh well, it just affects men." So why aren't we going red for everyone?

  • can you make that 10? lol

  • @OCUBOX I will give you two reasons: 1. Heart attack warning signs are different in women than they are in men. All of the research and information around heart attacks was based on men until about 10 years ago. 2. Heart Disease is the NUMBER ONE killer of women in the US - 500,000 American women each year! But research shows that most of us don't realize that. That is why the Go Red Campaign exists in the first place.

  • Where did you got o med school. There is ZERO difference in the presentation, on set, diagnosis or prognosis of heart disease, stroke or cardiac arrest in men or woman. Its is the EXACT same illness. Why do we need to make gender an issue in everything. Prostate cancer kills more men then breast cancer kills of woman but breast cancer gets 100x the funding. Now we are going to have a BUNCH f wasted money trying to cure female heart disease. The grant applications should be enjoyable reads though

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT I went to nursing school, actually. I don't disagree that there is a mis-prioritization of research funding, but you are incorrect about there being "ZERO difference."

From the NINR/NIH: "both the early and the acute symptoms women experience related to a heart attack vary significantly from the classic chest pressure or pain described for men. The symptoms for women are more subtle and difficult to recognize, often appearing more like stomach problems or indigestion."

  • I love Nurses and I practice Nephrology I wouldnt believe half of what you read the fact is Heart attacks and heart disease almost universally present the same in men and woman. The fact is there is a larger issue that concerns me and that is the fact that charities seem to find it neccassary to present an issue as having extremely adverse effects on half of the population for anyone to give a damn. The money going to prostate, testicular cancer and male diseases is negligible.

  • Where do you get your stats on childhood cancer funding. Are you INSANE it is was of the most well funded areas of research. I do awareness campaigns but I spend most of it talking about kidney disease as this is specialty but I also focus on under funded areas ie. mental illness, addiction research and prostate cancer. I just hate when disease become the soup de jour of the media darlings and they get ALL the attention. Aids 1900-200 Breast cancer 2000-2011 and Heart disease now!

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT No, actually, I'm insinuating that a women would care more about women's health issues and not be complaining about an awareness video b/c it's meant "just" for women. You're right, enough said, you are not even reading the posts correctly. "1 in 100 babies are born with heart defects and kills twice as many children as all forms of childhood cancer COMBINED, BUT gets a fraction of the funding. " Now where did I say childhood cancer is underfunded? Yeah. I didn't.

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT I so much agree. If the disease targets a group that has societies sympathy, it gets so much more attention. I just donated to prostate cancer because I know the rest the country won't give a hoot about a disease that targets men.

  • @cgfrap Thirdly why must I have lied about my gender? Are you insinuating that woman care more about childhood cancer. That is a sexist generalization and belongs in the stone ages like your medical practice. Good day im done.

  • i thought this was a trailer! was gettin very excited

  • @MsPony65 I agree that vegetarianism is an ethical choice. We choose to alleviate the suffering of (CAFO) animals by eating less or no meat.

However, there is proof that a vegan diet is good for your heart as well.

"The results of an evidence-based review showed that a vegetarian diet is associated with a lower risk of death from ischemic heart disease."

From the American Dietetic Association, Volume 109, Issue 7, Pages 1266-1282 (July 2009)

  • Please share this with all the women in your life.........

and u will end up saving some!!!!!

  • My mom had a heart attack two years ago and when she and I watched this we laughed together. My mornings are crazy like that too. I said I probably would have just asked if I could meet the paramedics out on the front porch.

  • Maybe there should have been a scene where the mom is unconscious on the floor, while the husband is walking around in circles looking for his coffee, and the kids are still in their pjs.

  • I hate how this video stereotypes young women who have experienced a heart attack. It's mocking and misleading. Even young moms who have their shit together and aren't trying to be some kind of martyr supermom can have a heart attack.

  • @badassvikingchik It's called hyperbole. Get over your need to be offended, will you?

  • @MsPony65 I don't have a need to be offended. I just have a different viewpoint. Many women are sent home from the E.R. because their symptoms aren't taken seriously. Get over your need to put down people with different opinions.

  • If you liked this please consider watching "The Last Heart Attack" on CNN with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and former president BIll Clinton.

    Go Vegan!

  • @monkkeydragon Lot of healthy people are omnivores. It's more natural, if you consider things like the fact that we have mixed dentition, there's no local veg within 50-100 miles for those of us in the North, etc.

Veganism is a political position, not a health issue..

  • how cute, LOL when she says, "what was I thinking! I forgot to cut off the crusts!"

  • Great AHA - Go Red. finally

  • Great, love it.

  • this is an amazing video! Informative and funny!

  • wow if only most kids were that smart right.

  • Colin Egglesfeild!@!!!!!!! <3 Oh and great video! :)

  • It gives you a different perspective about the signs of an oncoming attack. It's an excellent video. 5stars for sure.

  • Love this commerical it really explains to you what can really happen while you go on with your life thinking your ok....Awesome commercial!

  • 2:40 xDD

  • I LOVE ELIZABETH BANKS!

  • Oh, my goodness, this is so true! I had a heart attack at age 35, 3 months after having my second child. I thought I was having anxiety attacks, so pay attention to what your body is trying to tell you!!

  • This ROCKS!

What it points out is that people DON"T know they are having a heart attack. Especially women!

  • 1:26 HAHAHAAHAHAHA

  • Lady: "That's nice sweety but that's not my heart; that is."

Guy: (Ya, I kind of knew that, but I was hoping this announcement would be for breast cancer awareness instead)

  • kinda wierd because you woulde knowen if you were having a heart attak.

  • Great video! So true for so many people. Dramatic heart attacks are not the only attacks that need a trip to the ER. There can never be enough awareness about the "quiet" heart attacks and the odd list of symptoms they have. I think for a lot of women, the symptoms aren't even as severe as what was in the video.

  • Love Love Love this! What an eyeopener. I thought for a minute there had been a camera in my kitchen but then I realized she didn't have sweats on! Thanks for this!

  • Great video.

  • how does this clip have any dislikes?? seriously.

  • @Leebee73 People who dislike this movie like their trans-fats instead

  • @Leebee73 I dislike it because it centres the funding on one sex. Take away the blanks: 3w dot the -spearhead. com / 2010/ 02/ 05/ go -red- for- women /

  • What a class act! Why can't other Hollywoods stars follow her lead?

  • Thanks Elizabeth for lending your talents and beauty to this cause.

As a Mr. Mom to two teenage girls, I can totally relate to this scenario. Every once in a while, you have to step out of your skin to put what's really important in life into perspective. It starts with a little "me" time, a focus on nutrition, and forcing yourself to exercise even when you feel exhasted (I find plugging my headphones into my iPod when exercising makes it something to look forward to).

  • awesome video! Thanks. I have coronary artery disease but have NOT had a heart attack. Found out about seven months ago that I was at extreme risk for one and have really changed my life! Lost 18 pounds and eat very heart-healthy (which is hard to do!). I've always taken care of everybody else first, but now I'm kind of #1. Can't take care of anybody else if I don't take care of me first! Love the video!

  • Take this one seriously ladies, its Your Life!

  • great video! really focuses on the symptoms - don't ignore them girls - our symptoms are different from the "big ones" the men get. i know - i'm a survivor...and i'm 44 years young - no blockages - a rare thing called "broken heart syndrome" - but i ignored it and had an m/i too. bet if we keep talking - "broken heart syndrome" won't be so "rare" anymore!

  • OMG when I had my heart attack three years ago at age 48,,,i thought I had heart burn...3 times before the big one!!!! great video!!!!! <3

  • I'm the youngest of 3 girls. We lost my oldest sister when she was 43. My middle sister is recovering from double bypass (she also had a heart attack at age 43). Ladies! Take care of those tickers!!!!

  • As a women who had a heart attack at 35 in a circumstance not so very different than the film, I love it!

  • Yay! Thank you Elizabeth Banks for making this film. That could be me or any number of my female friends.
