Other than the occasional jab against the Emperor, this video reflected a Japan whose people were proud of their heritage and nation. There is no problem with that at all. It is healthy. I don't see, in the video, the immorality and decay displayed in the West and to a lesser extent today's Japan.

Given that between them the USA,UK and other European states managed to carve up China, which has twenty times Japan's population you can see why the Japanese would be a tad defensive. When in 1905 they defeated the Russian navy (the largest in the world at that time) most of Europe cheered. I'm not saying that Japan's imperial ambitions were right, but nevertheless they were understandable.

I've lived in both places too, and there are xenophobic morons in both countries. Likewise, there are reasonable, broad minded intelligent people in both countries. I'm not denying there's still a xenophibic element here, but frankly I don't think it's any worse than in any other country. And I'm not defending Japan's wartime activities. They were disgraceful. What pisses me off is showing pictures of children doing exercise and saying they are being "(readied) to die for their emperor."
