I heard about this, and it somehow made sense in my head more than it did when i watched this. Also, I'm not sure the audio was the one used in the pilot, since it's very poorly edited. You can actually hear Michael Stipe singing the "sh" from "shiny at 0:08. I believe they really did shoot an intro like that, but also that this specific video, at least audio-wise, is fake
Really glad they went with what they did. I dont mine the initial title although i think Friends is a better name. But i HATE this song! Its so slow AND Ill be there for you is talking about how they are always there for each other. This song was just... Stupid.
This opening reminds me of the family-oriented TGIF-style generations of sitcoms that shows like Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier, etc. would go on to replace in the 1990's.
idk if this is meant to be serious or a joke, but I'll be there for you is the original theme song, always has been. Matt Le Blanc's name is spelled wrong and if you watch the pilot intro you'll see Jennifer lipsyncing "i'll be there for you" ;)
@smileyy94 i dunno about that, but matt leblanc is spelt correctly. look up how it's spelt sure =] nah, i heard years ago on some interview with the creators on tv about this. i remember sumfin being said about an original opening sequence being made with shiny happy people, which was why the song was later used in an episode of friends. it was also originally supposed to be called 'friends like us', so the likelihood is, this video is completely for real.
@smileyy94 It's not a joke. Look on Wikipedia, there is something that pilote series of Friends has originally name "Friends like us" and intro of it was "Shiny Happy People".
@TheMJG1 Yes maybe so, but I don't really see how that is correct, considering Jennifer Aniston is singing "I'll be there for you" in the clips from the intro that was used in the pilot episode. Perhaps "Shiny happy people" was supposed to be the intro song but they changed it before they shot the intro. It would be a waste of time and money to shoot two intros. Also, wikipedia could be wrong, it's not exactly the most reliable source.
@smileyy94 So what if they shot two intros? Most sitcoms need to get just the right song and clips and often do this anyway. It was hardly a waste of money, because this song was later used in an episode of friends and the rights would've had to have been bought for it anyway. This was probably the most expensive part of making the video, if you take away the filming which just came from the episodes, plus Warner Bros has plenty of money to be wasting.
