  • My grandparents had a home on 20 acres on the Delaware not too far from the cemetery. We spent summers there, swimming, playing in the woods, exploring the fields. It was the most beautiful place in the world and we were so sad when they had to sell it for the Dam project. There is no trace of their house or garden or all the apple and other fruit trees my Grandfather grew, but we all still have wonderful, vivid memories of the best summers of our young lives. Now it's all back to nature.

  • i used to take that bridge everyday, and my father and grandfather are buried in that cemetery, it is actually really creepy, when I was little I always thought there was someone watching me from the woods on both sides, and we got blocked in once on the narrow path and found out if it was serious how hard it would be to get out

I've been up and down that rd but never in the section between rt 80 and thw walpack center until recently i'll have to plan more trips

  • I used to go to a hunting cabin on the river with the scouts back in the 70's and 80's on Old Mine Rd., I remember there was a creepy looking house up on the road from where it was that was abandoned. I'm trying to find out exactly where that cabin was and think it was Walpack.

  • I live in walpack.

    I'm not a ghost...

  • I lived in Walpack - you photographed the very house! I loved it there. Not everyone took the government by-out. They put the money in escrow and stayed. Someone always had to be in the house for fear the property would be seized. At night you could see the lights in the hills. Sturdy folks. I miss it.

  • Your Delaware River video brings back many memories. My family had a place on the river on Old Mine Road on the other side of the mtn were you filmed Walpack proper (North of the Van Campen Inn). Our place no longer exists as it was bulldozed down in 1981 by the Fed Govt part of the Tocks Island Dam Project. Lost many historic homes & many people uprooted. Sad. It was a very tranquil place to live. I especially loved canoeing & fishing on the river. I hope the land never gets developed.

  • There is nothing wrong with this town or area.

I used to go there for a drive from NYC. The roads are very scenic and air is very fresh. The river is clean, you can go for a dip, pleasnty of BBQ areas. You can rent a Canue and raft down the river. I have seen pleanty of wild animals, and a baby bear once. It was awesome.

Its ironic, but you get to see how powerless you can be against the government once the decide to put you out of your own home. There was a community there prior to 1963

  • um wallpack isnt completely abandoned . i actually know people who live there

  • have you ever seen your friends in the day light?

  • There is a campground near walpack & its not dead..

  • Yeah. My mom, for one. Long live we Walpack People, wherever we are. The only ghosts are in our memories.

  • Well... I believe you, but any town without sushi, dry cleaning and a good ISP is too old school for my standards.
