Im an Auburn fan so my opinion must be "biased" but it was clear to me that Bama pushed Ole Miss out of bounds so they should have had the ball. Its a lot harder to tell who touched it first tho.
Look at it this way: what did Ole Miss do the other 59 minutes of the game that lead to them NEEDING this field goal to tie or touchdown to win? In other words, if it all comes down to the last play then that means a lot of mistakes were made that could have made the difference long before this drive was needed to stay alive.

You can't tell. The Ole Miss reciever trailed until right before the ball got to both players, so he wasn't pushed out of bounds. You can't tell who touched the ball first, but the refs said Ole Miss touched it first. End of story. The game's been in the books for over a year.

I am not a college football fan, and I found this clip from a link from a link from a link from the football clip I was looking for. I couldn't care less about the two teams, but with the information that was given and my own two eyes, CLEARLY it was a catch. The opposing team clearly and obviously touched the ball first making all recievers eligible BEFORE the ball was wrestled away from the opposing team. This clearly was a catch, and apparently it was robbery. Sorry gents.

interesting that i found out a few days after the game that the official that made the final call is an alumnus of Alabama. i heard the rumor but didnt believe it until i found it online myself (posted well before the game). He had no indisputable evidence to overturn the call. He messed up both parts of the call (being forced out of bounds and the first to touch the ball). But I want to thank Alabama for winning the game because it helped us get rid of our idiot coach. Now we have a real coach

Look at it this way: what did Ole Miss do the other 59 minutes of the game that lead to them NEEDING this field goal to tie or touchdown to win? In other words, if it all comes down to the last play then that means a lot of mistakes were made that could have made the difference long before this drive was needed to stay alive.

Another easy win for Bama over Ole Miss is all I can say. You guys were very lucky to make the 4th and 16 from inside youown 10 early in the drive. Then a desperation 4th and 22 pass, that was a great catch by your receiver but he went out of bounds on his own. A player can't jump off the bench to catch a pass on the sidelines. That would be like saying he could.

ok look let me break it down to u dex. not tryin to take up for my high school teammate or be mean. yes he did go out of bounds but once mitchell placed his hand on the ball the shay became eligible to take the ball from him which he did. that should have been a completed pass and placed ole miss in position to win the game. i love bama but i love ole miss too and i think ole miss and shay was robbed on that play and im sure the ref got a few dollars pulled out their checks for that call.

There was not indisputable evidence to reverse the call on the field. It is obvious the defender has his arm wrapped around the receiver, which, in my opinion, shows that he is being pushed out of bounds, making him eligible to catch the ball.

Oh, and the issue isn't whether Hodge was pushed out. As you said, that is hard to determine, so you can't make the ruling based on that. The issue is who touched the ball first. Yeah, Mitchell was the one who "caught" the ball first, but that doesn't mean he touched it first. Doesn't matter who catches it first, what matters is who touches it first. Nothing in the video can prove who made contact first.
