yeah it is, usually the judges reserve the lower points for speeches like this. its ok to attack what the opposition says, but to sound forceful and negative like he did will deduct points. i remember i was at a debate and the opposing prime min said "people who want universal healthcare are just too lazy to get jobs" lol...

As a national medal winning college Parli debater, let me say, he isn't that great as a speaker. He is too loud, and comes off as abrasive and not credible. If he modulated the volume and calmed down just a hair, he could still be passionate, but retain credibility.

@manthony1393 Haha, to equate statement of fact "national medal winning..." with "not humble" is a logical fallacy, haha. I did in fact make it the bronze rounds at nationals my freshman year, my partner and I didn't advance because we didn't know specific terminology/procedures for calling a topicality.

To me, you can recognize you are talented and still be humble. Those who aren't think they're better than other people, haha. All I know is that I'm competitively successful. :-p

no... the time limit is only up to 6 minutes... after that you have to stop.

no you get a 30 second grace period. and not all speeches are 6 min, the pro and con opening speeches can go up to 6 min 30 second, then the government speaks for 8 and the rebuttal is for 7 i think. im doing this kind of debate tomorrow so i kinda have to know how long ill be up there lol. im so nervous.
