Orignally Marks Barfield had planning permission for 5 years but they designed for a 50 year lfe span before the first major overhall. Soon after opening, and when everybody else realised how "good" the London Eye was, it received a planning permissioin extension. It is there for as long as it is safe, pays for itself+ and Londoners want it. They also designed in fame! Thanks for your interest.
